2.0 grams - The Whip and Saddle (C3C)

nice turn :D let's put an over/under out on scouts turns (betting on the # of towns he takes), eh? :D

looking at the map, it appears that the inca have 13 towns left so, i'll put the over/under @ 12 towns. go get'm scout! i'm betting the over :D

In other words, you're putting the over/under at 12 more turns of gameplay from this point?

scoutsout said:

no, you need to take 12 towns during your 10 turns :D therefore, i'm saying you will close it out!

Let's see... troops need a couple turns of rest... some hilly terrain... 13 towns... 10 turns... this oughta be fun! :devil2:

Ouch! The pirates grabbed an army? I thought I had them covered up by a frigate except for the one heading toward the last Celtic city. Oh well. Its those darn Koreans! If we weren't so close to finishing this up, I'd say we take on the Koreans just for spite's sake.

Anyhow, great job finishing off the Celts. Too bad they couldn't finish Shakespeares for us. And a great setup for Scout. Sounds like 10 loooong turns of clearing the Incans out. Good luck Scout.

I would need to see what all scout has coming over by transport in the next ten. No offense to Scout's warring ability, but I'm a betting man, and I know the Inca HAD a load of troops they have been building all game. With that in mind I would think the under. Sapa-Inca may not have quality troops but he probably has 15-20 per town.
Here's to proving my wrong scout.

Delurk -

Great job here guys!

I think you should all grab the save play the last turn to completion and see who comes out the quickest and with the highest score.
--------------------------------------------------
Mistfit votes under - scout is good but 40.9 tiles per turn is asking a lot :D

Pre-flight Check: Holy Mackerel Goz, how many Cav did you stick in Ping-Pong?!?!?! I'm fresh out of fingers and toes for the counting!

Okay... the cavs are a little beat up. I was hoping they'd have rested in the extra day they spent on my hard drive, but they didn't. So scratch that off the list of "potential exploits" and press <Enter>.

IBT - An Inca AC swoops out of Seattle and Captures Washington... undefended, just like that. I'd say the "diversion" in the Inca west is working. I quit counting the west-bound Incan units at 30. Nice job, Goz

Turn 1 (1455) Sink an Incan Galley. Re-take Washington (doesn't count on the over-under line) and take Seattle (dunno if that counts or not). Found Celtic Rockpile on the former site of the only Celt City I had the honor of sacking. I guess that settler was there to help us reach the domination limit. Do some railroading in some lands I'm not familiar with... I think Temujin used to live here. Found Gozberg in honor of Gozpel, but I'm not gonna tell anybody where. I wanna see if you can find it. Scroll through our cities, hiring scientists in woefully corrupt towns or towns with serious happiness issues. Swap Beijing to Military Academy, tile swap to get it in 8. Tons of Worker turns. Nationalism in 25 turns, gpt goes down to +646. Sack Vilcabamba. (That one DOES count on the over/under).

Cities taken, retaken, or sacked: Washington, Seattle, Vilcabamba.

IBT - Inca redline our diversionary Army...might be time to withdraw or somethin'.

Turn 2 (1460) I need an I-been-workin'-on-the-railroad smiley. GrahamIsGonnaSlam is founded on an Incan rockpile. Shuffle some ships around...lose a few cav skirmishing in the mountains... withdraw the diversionary force to the safety of waiting Galleons... Rider Army on the way...

IBT - Vitcos Captured (surprise)

Turn 3 (1465) - take science to 10%, because we lost a turn on Nationalism somewhere... we have a PILE of gold...Rush a bunch of Temples, because I can. Ica is sacked this turn (and that one counts). Combat Settler on the way. Shuffle some stuff around. I count 37 Inca units between me and Huamanga...but it's a mix of Middle and Ancient age JUNK. This could get fun.

IBT - This could get interesting yet... the Inca basically threw everything they could muster at GrahamIsGonnaSlam...waltzing right through a gap in the mountains between a couple of Cavalry Armies and Cavalry I put there last turn...who knocked hit points off them as they marched. I count...21 Archers (3 at full strength) a 3/4 Chasqui Scout, a 4/5 Horse, 3 Pikes (1 healthy) 17 Spearmen (7 healthy) 4 Warriors (2 healthy)... and a 4/4 Knight. Looking at all the hit points knocked off those AI units, I think I know how SirPleb must've felt when he discovered the "Funnel of Doom"...and I honestly wasn't trying to do that. Doing the math here... That's 48 units... though I ran out of fingers and toes long before the Inca ran out of units, so my count might be off....but only 14 of them arrived at the city's gates healthy. This is gonna be fun... I don't think I've been this badly outnumbered on another continent since... the last time Gozpel handed me a game. :p

Turn 4 (1470) Sink an Inca Galley off the coast of fmr. America. For cryin' out loud, can we finish the worker turns and get on with the COMBAT for cryin' out loud? Shut down research. I don't want Replaceable Parts with this many workers. F2 Check: Tula is not connected, and it has horses. In keeping with the theme of this variant, I invent a new rule that we must connect all horses, so I rush the harbor at Tula to abide by my new rule. Trade Korea spices for 17gpt.

***** Battle for GrahamIsGonnaSlam
Elite Cav Whacks a Pike. Vet Cav whacks Knight. Army whacks Pike, Spear, Spear, Spear, Elite Cav whacks spear. Vet Cav whacks spear, promotes. Army whacks spear, another spear, a pike, a spear (if I ever get past these archer freeshots I'm gonna be dangerous) Vet Cav whacks a spear (Are you guys actually reading this? It's way more fun to play it) Vet cav whacks a spear (Cntrl-V is your friend) Elite Cav whacks a spear, another Elite Cav whacks a spear. Vet cav RETREATS to a spear. Elite Cav whacks a spear, and we get a leader. Given the number of RNG rolls it took to get this one, I name the Cav appropriately.

2Gram_leader_v_inca-1.jpg

Jin Qiu rushes a Palace in GrahamIsGonnaSlam (Are you actually reading this? Believing this? I'm kidding...Jin Qiu build a freakin' ARMY...) Where was I? Oh yes, the battle for GrahamIsGonnaSlam. Elite Cav whacks a spear, no leader. Vet Cav Whacks a spear. The list of Incan Expeditionary force units will now fit on my screen, but I think it's gonna take another turn to take 'em out. New Army whacks a spear, a warrior (?) another warrior, and another warrior. Elite Cav whacks a horse, elite cav whacks an archer (scout loads "whacks an archer" into Ctrl-V) Elite cav whacks an archer, Elite Cav whacks an archer, Elite Cav whacks an archer, Elite Cav whacks an archer, Elite Cav whacks an archer,

I take a break from whacking Inca (or was it Maya?) units to found SpikeItOpolus.... oooh DANG...that one got us IVORY. :D

Where was I? Oh yeah... whacking Inca outside the town I named for our fearless leader. Elite 3/5 Cavalry whacks the Chasqui Scout. Army in the hills (enemy territory) whacks a warrior, an Archer, another Archer, another Archer, Vet Cav whacks an archer, Vet Cav whacks an Archer, Vet Cav whacks an archer, Vet Cav whacks an Archer. Dangit. I didn't get 'em all. Wake a musket in Ping-Pong and whack (yet another) Archer. That was cool, so I do it again. And again. And again. Wake a musket in GrahamIsGonnaSlam and whack another archer. Discover I have a couple of Cav fortified in that town for some reason. Vet Cav whacks archer. Vet Cav whacks archer. Elite musket whacks Warrior. I take an Elite Musket that I woke up, and go after the very last Inca Warrior, and General Tso is born.

2Gram_leader_v_inca-2.jpg

I don't know what kind of a leader he is, but I know he had a really good recipie for chicken.

Aw dangit... I have a problem... @ Barbslinger: When I try to calculate the kill ratio for that last round, I get this #div/0! error. What's that mean? :crazyeye:

I decide to let the armies rest... and press <Enter>

IBT - Inca lose 2 knights and an MDI before another MDI kills our Elite* Musket. "That's One." I really oughta figure out the kill ratio...gotta be a new personal best. They march some more troops agains GrahamIsGonnaSlam. Koreans lose a Privateer to one of our Frigates. We build some stuff, and people are partyin' all over our empire. Palace Expansion.

Turn ... 5 (1475) Back to the "siege" of GrahamIsGonnaSlam: Cav Army whacks a musket, another musket (gotta watch it now... Pachachuti's sending LONGBOWS after me.) Fresh Cav Army whacks a pike, another pike, an MDI, another MDI. Elite Cav whacks an MDI. Vet Cav whacks an archer. Elite Cav whacks a longbow. 4/5 cav whacks a longbow. 3/5 Cav whacks a Warrior. Trade Korea Furs for 23 gpt.

I know this is bad form, but I fortify some of our workers at home. There is one "awake" on top of each stack, so they're easier to find.

IBT - Inca advance more troops. Wang Kon wants to renegotiate Dyes. renew for 23gpt. Korea and Aztecs sign MPP

Turn 6 (1480) The Inca have advanced 11 MORE units against GrahamIsGonnaSlam. This is getting ridiculous. Time to sack something. But first, I whack 2 muskets, a Pike, an A/C, another Pike, 3 spears, an archer, a warrior, and another archer outside that city.

Time to get down to business. Army whacks a musket at Huamanga. Blitzes another musket. And another. Grab another Army, and do it again. Capture the Statue of Zeus at Huamanga (this one counts towards the over/under line). Dangit... I hate to raze cities like this. It's got a rax, a granary, a market, a court, walls, a 'duct, and the Statue of Zeus. Put a musket and a settler in there. I'm pretty sure I've got one turn of grace before a flip. This'll be an "instant raze and replace". Whack a pike and a longbow on my way out of the mountains.

IBT - The Inca retreat a single Cav with a longbow at Cuzco. That's their capitol. I think they're officially gassed. (I've got 3 Armies at the city's gates. :D )

Turn 7 (1485) - first things first. Abandon Huamanga (and the Soz) SlingItAtEmAll is founded on the rockpile. Short rush a temple with a worker.

Lose a cav at Corihuayrachina. That town is gonna get sacked just for making me spell that. Whack a musket, lose a cav (that's THREE dangit) and ANOTHER cav, elite Cav whacks a musket, Elite Cav whacks a musket, and (another) leader is born sacking the city.

2Gram_leader_v_inca-3.jpg

Whoops. The inca cultural borders cover our leader. :smoke: Advance a sackful of Cav on the next Inca town.

At Cuzco: Cav Army whacks a musket. Redux. Another Cav Army whacks a musket. Redux. Elite Cav whacks a longbow. Vet Cav whacks a longbow, and the city is ours. (This one counts too.) Temple of Artemis, a market, a court. completely surrounded by enemy culture. Talk about flip risks.

I decide to press our luck and send a vet Cav against Vilcas. It whacks a musket, but is redlined. Second Vet Cav whacks a musket. Take an Army that wasn't needed for Cuzco and whack the last musket defending Vilcas. The city is ours. (This one counts too.)

In something that vaguely resembles an amphibious assault, I land 8 Cav outside Oilantambo from some galleons I had 2 turns ago in GrahamIsGonnaSlam.

In something else that vaguely resembles an amphibious assault, I land Gozpel's distractionary force (now 2 armies strong and fully healed) outside Vitcos.

IBT- Inca (or was it the Maya?) lose a Longbow attacking one of our Cav.

Turn 8 (1490) - I lose a rider army blitzing Vitcos, but the city is ours (again). I'm not sure if that counts or not. Cavalry Army is redlined Blitzing 3 muskets at Tiwanaku. Elite Cavalry takes the city. And I KNOW that one counts. At Nasca, a Cav Army is redlined blitzing 2 Muskets and a Pike. Another one that counts. At Andahuaylas, a Cav Army Blitzes a Musket and a Pike. Elite Cav whacks a flatfooted musket, and that city is ours now too. Lose an Elite Cav at Atico (New Inca Capitol) Lose a Vet Cav there too. Vet Cav whacks a musket. Elite Cav whacks a musket. Vet Cav whacks the last musket, and that city falls to us. I'm starting to keep cities... because I forgot where all my combat settlers are. That, and the Inca are now a 5CC. :D

There's a town that starts with an "O" that is covered up by some of our Cav. Lose 2 Vet Cav there. Whack a pike, retreat a cav to a stubborn musket. Junkyard Bob* whacks a musket, Elite Cav whacks a musket, and that city is ours now too.

Lose 2 Cav at Macchu Picchu. Pull an army out of vilcas and blitz 2 muskets. Elite cav left over from "O" town whacks a musket at Macchu Picchu. Vet Cavalry whacks a longbow, and Macchu Picchu is ours now too.

...moving Cavalry south...shuffle a whole BUNCH of stuff around (because this game is officially a mess).

IBT - Finally - something amusing in the IBT - Monty wants to trade World Maps.
Beijing completes the Military Academy...starts an Army. Next player can swap to Universal Sufferage if we are overcome by a desire to launch a Chinese Rider Army to Alpha Centauri.

Turn... 9 (1495) MapStat tells me that all of the recently conquered Inca towns aren't real happy about having been conqurered recently. that's okay. Gimme 2 more turns and they'll all be properly assimilated.

...but first, a combat settler. I think I've named a town after everybody on the team...so this next one'll be "Lock'n'Load Cafe". Short rush a temple.

Whack a musket at Juli with an Army. Blitz another musket. Elite Cav takes the city. Grab some Cav and go after Chuquiapo. Vet Cav whacks a musket and promotes. Elite Cav retreats to a Spear. Vet Cav whacks the spear, and the city is ours.

Lose a cav at Chuito. Vet Cav whacks a musket. Vet Cav whacks a pike and the city is ours.

The Inca (or was it Maya?) are no more.

2Gram_Inca_gassed.jpg

Come to think of it, I'm a little gassed too. Time to take a break and give a progress report to the team.

Woo-hoo! Beers for Scout. I have only read the ending but I am really proud of you. Great work.

@Team: This is not quite an after-action review. After Gassing the Inca, I felt a litle gassed myself. More to the point, I let the game get... a little messy.

The high points: I think I named a town for everybody on the team. I hope I didn't leave anyone out. My apologies if I did.

On the Over/Under thing: I forgot where our gracious host put the line. But the Inca (or was it the Maya?) are "officially gassed". Or gone... or something. Anyway...time to pick a new target.

Since I sorta went on a rampage...and now we've got stuff scattered all over the place... I thought I'd upload the save at this point and let you guys take a look at it; let me know what you want me to do with the next turn=and-a-half.

@ 'slinger: Please don't ask me what the kill ratio was.

General notes: We've got some galleons rounding the northern coast of our new Incan holdings...those could be loaded up with troops to go after Japan if we want to... I'm not sure where we are on the domination limit... but I think we're under 300 tiles to go now...

...so...@ Grahamiam: tell me where you want me to start moving stuff for the handoff... or you can take it from this point (messy as it is). Your call. Have a look at the save and let me know what you want me to do.

Sorry for the mess...

barbslinger said:
Sounds like the only mess is in Pachachuti's pants.
Trust me when I tell you... I have no idea how many armies, let alone units, are scattered over our new Incan holdings. I honestly don't envy Grahamiam the next turnset... because there is some re-aligning to do..

I had no idea the Incan cities would fall so quickly after I dismantled that one stack. Granted, it was outdated stuff... but still... skirmishing with muskets at Demi-God was a first for me.

I left everything so nice and...pretty. Now look what you done!

At least you had some fun there, I can tell by how you handled The Inca (or was it Maya?)

I'm also pleased to see that Junkyard Bob* was in action again :)

Gozberg, found it! :)

We're at 61%, just rush those temples and we should be close.
In worst case I suppose we can take out Japan.

Another Stronghold? Ding-Dong?

number was 12 so it looks like barbslinger and misfit owe me  since you're so far away, i'll just take an iou :D

@scout: i can't look at the save right now but just get me to someone who has 6% of the land (japan?) and we can put this in the history books. don't worry if you don't have time as i have will have a lot of that tonight. great job, i always knew you'd cover

Wow! I can't believe you actually typed that whole thing up, Scout. It had to take as long to type up as to play. Great job! Great job to Gozpel as well. You obviously set him up to cruise.

scoutsout said:

 At least I know not to try this one out now. :D

Thanks for the compliments guys... and thanks for the setup Gozpel, that was a lot of fun!

@SpikeIt: On the typing - I find it helps me to slow down and play focused when I take notes.

@Grahamiam: You can take it if you want to play tonight, or I can play the last turn and a half after work and try to position things for you to go after Japan. It's entirely up to you.

I think I've got a few Galleons in a reasonabe position to send troops to Japan, and a few more that can be brought to bear in 2-3 turns... there's a little strait in the western end of our new Incan holdings that will make a nice point for jumping off...

Yup. I do the same, but your battle details... I just get sick and tired of Alt-tabbing back and forth for each battle. My wife irritating, marathon civ sessions are already long enough. With note taking, it takes me forever to finish a heavy fighting session. But you do a great job with your notes. The impressive detail and little bits of humor sprinkled in are great to read. :goodjob:
