prince level (which i think = noble from civ iv)
epic speed (because I was going through techs in 3 turns on standard, making many of my units obsolete way too quickly)
tiny (so i can try and get a feel for some immediate diplomacy, trade, etc)

met suleiman, entered coop agreement
met elizabeth, refused coop agreement
not to mention i have NO IDEA what a coop agreement does (or secrecy for that matter)

and both of them declared war on me on turn 22. not to mention i only had 1 town (capital), 1 scout, 1 warrior, 1 brute (as Germany, captured from barb outpost), und kein mehr!

OUCH!

it took me 4 years to master civ iv, but i have NO idea what im doing in civ v. i plan on mastering this ASAP so please help me fellow civvists

While you had coop agreements with them, maybe they all the while had a pact of secrecy against YOU! :D

Just like in Outer Limits, you think everything's ok and there's suddenly the big twist..

The same thing just happened to me! I was attacked by Siam and Persia simultaneously on around turn 20. And Bismarck was threatening to attack, too. Fortunately, I had no trouble fending off the attackers, and a bit later, I had my revenge on Siam.

Edit: My game was also on Prince level. I'd expect this sort of thing on higher difficulty levels, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it at Prince level too.

Hmm, I'm the other way round, but that comes from playing Greek and having Gandhi next door - man is he a wimp. Was I mean.

I haven't had that happen at Prince, yet.

Here's a tip for you, never sign Open Borders with anyone. The AI just uses it to see what your defenses look like before deciding to attack.
