Occasionally I find myself thinking that, for the purposes of planting a scientist/merchant/engineer, a blank desert tile would be better to have than an oasis in a huge tradition capital or tightly packed empire where every tile is being used, especially if said oasis is on a road where I want to put a town. This seems backwards to me. Oases should be cool and useful for how rare they are, but they only give food and gold, which is not that useful past the mid game. Maybe this means we should buff the oasis, but I will leave it to someone else to make that proposal.

Side effect: oases would become the best tiles to put GPTIs on. I'm not sure if this is good or bad.

No. Oasis, natural wonders and lake should stay unimproveable since their base yields already grow with era/buildings.

Not by much though. After aqueducts and caravansaries, (I think thats what gives them gold) nothing else boosts them specifically unless you are arabia or have the desert pantheon. In my current atomic era game, they are at 5 food and 6 gold and would be 5 food and 4 gold if I didnt have petra or a golden age. Thats... really bad, no? Compare this to a stable boosted blank sheep on a hill, which is 1 food and 4 production. The oasis is still better imo, but its not blowing the sheep out of the water.

To make them plantable on a feature without clearing they need to be plantable on ALL features without clearing, including forests and jungle.

I don't see a good balance reason to do this, and it's a ton of work for someone to make a unique feature class for oases with such miniscule and dubious payoff

You could use adjacency instead of planting on top: GPTI gains yields when adjacent to an oasis, or oasis gains yields when a GPTI is placed adjacent.

Still not sold on the need for this change, but these would be more feasible ways to add it, perhaps.
