US(Cautious) and Asoka(Annoyed) are still breathing and If I declare war on either one of them I`ll have to fight them both(deffensive pact) Is there a way to brake that pact between them, piss one of 'em so only one attacks me or make one attack the other ????Anything will help. I have open borders with US but thats as far as my diplomacy goes. I really dont want to fight them both at the same time

If you annoy one enough so he attacks you, then his defensive pact with the other nation is broken and you are only at war with him.

If you can't make them not like each other (through religious differences, trading with one while the other sees you as his worst enemy, etc) there's pretty much nothing you can do about it. Even if you try to annoy one of them, he's not likely to attack you, for the simple reason that you're preparing a huge army in your backyard. I've tried this in a game and ended up resigning myself to a war on two fronts. I just posted lots of Cavalry close to one of the borders so that I could quickly dispatch any intruders, and went on to attack the other.

In conclusion, prepare for war with both, treat them as one, and declare war on the closer one. It might make the other one a little more reluctant to throw troops in the war if he doesn't feel you attacked him directly.

If you have access to spies, send them on a suicide mission. If one gets caught, the civ that catches it will get annoyed.

ask for a tribute until one of them gets -10 furious and hopefully declares on you at some point, lol (try the US guy, asoka is peaceful). I suppose you cant make them stop trading with each other? that would piss off one of them towards the other.

I did just that in the last 10 turns so far nothing.
Now its the spy turn, we'll see what happens then...

Well, will that give you a 2-front war? If not, attack the one closest, or if they're both close, use a Stack-o-doom to take out the more powerful one, then take out the less powerful one.

I HATE it when that happens. Almost impossible to win as you are up against 2-1 odds. I usually just restart the game over as you are in what i like to call a dead-lock. The only way to break this is by desposing your own army so that your military strength ratio falls drasticaly. This then causes at least one of them to attack you. But by doing this you are dead anyway, so good luck finding a solution that works.

It's not 2 vs 1 odds if you're bigger than either of them. Maybe 2 vs 1.5.

Just declare war and stay on the defensive until they run out of steam.

Try to get the US guy (you didn't say which) to either declare war on, or stop trading with, Asoka. You'd probably have to get him up to pleased to make that work.

It would take a bad AI program to have one voluntarily commit suicide by declaring war against you without the other to protect it. Accept that you cannot split them and that the AI is acting rationally (you want it to act irrationally).

Figure out how to fight a two-front war effectively or possibly pursue another victory condition?

The human player is still a better general in tactics and strategy, although the AI is getting better.

or split the difference and just prepare to invade both since you'll be doing eventually anyway may as well just go for it and not give the AI jack in some futile attempt to placate it.

crush them all.

I say declare war to US. bring your biggest stack on the US border and attack. Asoka will attack but after 10 turns he'll agree for peace because he's peaceful. or even give him money to buy peace cause if you capture USA you'll win for sure..

If you are outnumbered you have to fight smart.
General advice is to concentrate on one front, use enough troops to ensure that you always fight winning engagements. Meaning your stacks survive, and his stacks get wiped out to a man (or beast). Find a nice, juicy target that will hurt your enemy to lose, and take it. ("Target" could mean 2-3 developed cities for example).

On the other flank you do not invade at all. You can even allow the opponent to take a city if he is very powerful, lose one battle but win the war. Remember that each time he fights in your lands he gets war weariness. Also use the road network to your advantage. You can attack when and wherever you choose. Your enemy will start his invasion well, but after some fumbling around in your territory he will make a mistake that will allow you to make him pay. Use a flexible defense and mount counterattacks to break the enemy's back.

Good luck, commander.
