Greater threat/utility from siege units. Two situations in particular:
- helpful in unplugging choke points, since you have more layers involved in combat
- greater threat to cities in the early game
Details:
- Indirect fire on the line
- +1 range on the line
- - 20% CS on the line
- It is very easy for human players to turtle and use the generous city damage to weaken/destroy siege units. IMO, this is a primary factor in enabling human players to outplay the AI.
- Siege should be a huge threat to cities as they are the natural counter, but are very ineffective in the early game. Every game, I have zero decisions to make on siege promotions. You have to get to +1 range ASAP to efficiently threaten cities. I believe this will make AI sieges a credible concern.
- I've included indirect fire on the line for years on my own and it feels natural/makes sense plays well.
- I enjoy that siege units are "glass cannons" and if when exposed/isolated, they are easily destroyed by melee units.
