2004 Baseball Discussion Thread

Let them bash away, it won't make up for 16 runs a game the Yanks will average.;)

Looks like this is the final year for the Expos in town.
We've been told this for the past 6-7 years but this time it's probably true.

The team signed some good free agents like Everett and Batista and the pitching staff is good but we play in one of the hardest division in baseball so it's going to be very hard to come throught.

Well, I saw some great players (the best one being Vlad) and some great games. I hope this last season will be a great one.
Anyways, it's going to be weird to go to the BigO for the last time and actually mean it this time. I have four different tickets that I kept thinking the team wasn't coming back. This year's going to be the real deal.

I went to the Big O last year figuring it was their last season. I had convinced some friends in Ottawa (Blue Jays fans) that it would be nice to go see a game: with only 5000 in attendance, we could probably score some fantastic tickets and we would be able to hear the hum of the ventilation system (that always cracked me up...)

Wouldn't you know, it was one of those hot-dog promotion day, 30,000 people showed up and we kicked the Marlins in the nuts to the sound of a 7-1 pasting.

I'll miss the Expos.

Cubs beat the Red Sox 4 games to 3 in the proclaimed "Greatest Sporting Event of All Time".

Yankees underwhelm everyone.

Too bad about the Expos, I always had a soft spot for them. I wonder why baseball is so unpopular up there. Even when the Blue Jays were argaubly the best team in baseball, it didn't seem to incite much emotion.

I can't talk for the Jays, but Expos fans have neither forgotten nor forgiven baseball for the strike in '94.

And the stadium is awwwwful. Going to see a game at the Big O steals 6 months from your life.

The fans in Montréal grew tired of the owners shipping players away in fire sales years after years, especially after the 94 strike when we had the best team in baseball.

The sport is popular here but we've been played with for the past ten years. I remember the Big O when it was filled with tens of thousands of fans in the early 90's and we had a blast back then.

The marketing side of the sport was always awfull. I don't think I ever heard a player say something in french beside the great Gary Carter who is fluent in Molière's language. Not that bilingual players was important but at least a "merci" or a "bonjour" would have been a nice thing to say to the fans sometimes.

But the horrible ownership, either it was local businessmen or the a-hole named Jeffrey Loria, is the biggest reason why the team sanked in the past ten years and why the fans decided to go watch football, soccer, tennis and other summer professionnal sports in Montréal.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm really sad the Expos won't play here anymore but it's not like I didn't see it coming. At least I got to see some great players and some great games.
In the future, I'll root for whoever team Éric Gagné is playing! Go Dodgers! :D

There are a lot of good Canadian baseball players. Particularly pitchers.

Although I wouldn't go as far as saying they were all good, they all made it to the majors ar some point...
