Paris Olympics 2024

Just watched Mens 100 Meters
Spoiler Spoiler for folks in different time zones or who watch the various rebroadcasts :

Noah Lyles! GOOOOO USA#! First Olympic Gold for USA in 20 years!!!

TIL that what determines the winner in a photo finish is the "torso" (starting at the runner's clavicle), crossing the line, rather than the toe.
On another note, Womens gymnastics was amazing as usual.

This Olympics have been really great... some hearbreakers for Murica, but such great races, matches and competitors from so many countries. China has been incredible as always. Australia has also been fantastic.

I am having trouble finding where to watch USA women's team vs Japan, Soccer, Saturday.
Really annoying.
I managed to watch this boring game, drab outfits and all. No one woke up until 35 minutes in. But we got to see one possible outcome of an excellent Defense team, Japan, against a good All Around team, USA. The player with by far the most interesting hair scored the only goal.

Next for the USWNT is Aug 6, Tuesday, vs Germany, the 5th and 6th ranked teams. I think I have a place to watch this.

Duplantis with another WR. His 9th! I know he milks the system. But CIV players are not allowed to complain about milking, right?

I could just a bit of the women's pole vaulting yesterday. The eventual silver medal winner is local. And pole vaulting is always fun to watch.

Tonight I saw a decent chunk of the men's foot hockey gold medal match. Netherlands versus Germany, it ended 1-1 at the end of regulation, and the pub was closing at that point, so I'll just have to assume they both won gold.

There are a great many sports which imo shouldn't be in the olympics. And although I never watched, nor did I ever plan to watch, wrestling, taking it out was a terrible decision since it was one of the sports in the original games.
But whatever :)

The USWNT is fun to watch. They haven't been this enjoyable since 2015.
Quite the run for the USWNT this year. The broken (due to lost players) German team did not stop the US ladies on Tuesday, though the teams were well matched. Next up is the Final, pitting USA vs BRA, on Saturday. Loser gets Silver, not too shabby. Will the USWNT do their usual humbling job on Brazil? Glad I did not need to find a substitute team to root for this year!

That decision was reversed before it took effect, and wrestling has never left the Olympics. It's there this year too.

Now Japan 4th.

I didn't think GB would last long in 4th so I snatched the brief moment for the music.

Perhaps they should introduce Scandinavian games; like sitting on top of a pole.

Super tight race between USA and China for 1rst place in the medals standings. Both with 33 gold. USA is going to get the basketball golds sadly, so China needs to up its game.

Oh I'm sure the Chinese see it the same way, they math the same as everyone else, better even... USA is definitely ahead of both UK and France and USA definitely has the most total medals.

And they can see that the generally accepted ranking order is on Golds first not total medals.

According to boring british counting (BBC):

and congratulations, USA on now being number 1 .
