Paris Olympics 2024

Another 'anomaly' is counting Hong Kong as a separate country when it's part of China.
Without that handling, China would be in front of the USA when looking at the medals.

I think it's the opposite. Due to the limits on how many athletes from one country can participate in the olympics in a given sport the athletes from Hong Kong wouldn't even be there. In table tennis for example the 4 best ranked men are chinese so they had to make tough choices as to who they could bring (they could only field 2 in the singles). The athletes from Hong Kong would have competed with them to participate.

:nope: The two additional gold medals for Hong Kong/China were in fencing, not in table tennis. The fencers of Hong Kong were in the same Olympic contest as the best Chinese fencers outside Hong Kong and they have won their contests.

China Gold medals: 42 (40 + 2 from Hong Kong)
USA: 40

Puerto Rico also.
Puerto Rico is unincorporated although the Puerto Ricans have US citizenship

This is not changing anything in the result, that China plus Hong Kong is number 1 in the Olympic medals 2024 (and not the USA) when the two gold medals of Hong Kong / China are added to the 40 gold medals of China. Puerto Rico only won 2 bronce medals (as Hong Kong did additionally, too).

For an Aussie what does that mean, cos it looks and acts like part 0f the US from here.
Dont pay federal taxes, but dont get to vote for president or member of congress.

Its been talked about in OT before, and best place to start a thread if you wish to further discuss it.

If China and Hong Kong wanted their medals to be combined, they should have decided to do that before the contest (all compete for one team), not after seeing what the results are.
