It's really been a great year for Units in the C&C forum. At the rate units have been turning up this year, you'd think that this was a brand new game. Some of the best of those ended up in the contests, but participation by the unit makers seemed so low at one point that I wrote the first ever Monthly Competition Thread devoted to all of the units that weren't entered that month, in the hope of spurring a discussion, which actually went pretty well. As it turned out, it was just an off-month anyway, and I have a long list of winners here to prove it. One of the rules that was suggested and adopted was that Unit Makers can now sign up to have their Units automatically placed into the monthly competitions. Ironically, since that rule was adopted in September, no one has signed up for the auto-enter option. So it goes. And of course, September's contest was folded into October's because of the move to the new site, so the year was a bit touch & go at times, but we muddled through. My New Year's resolution is to post the Monthly Contests by the third of the month from now on (and the gun that Vuldacon is holding to my head has nothing to do with it!).
As I said, the good news is that it didn't slow down our Unit makers, who dazzled us with fun, useful, and beautifully rendered units of every shape and size. Even the units that lost in our monthly competitions this year were amazing examples of imagination & talent, Ruby_sauce's Titan, Mobility Gear Soldier and Lego Warrior being just a few such examples.
To Ruby, I bestow the 2016 Stanley Kubrick Award for being Inexplicably Snubbed by Awards Voters Despite Doing Amazingly Creative Work. The award is in the shape of a Maltese Falcon (which was also snubbed at awards time once).
To anyone who entered the monthly contests and didn't win: we love you most of all.

But if our voters punished some, they rewarded others: several of our nominees won the Monthlies more than once, and 30 % of our contests ended in ties. The result is that you've all got a lot to vote for now.
So let's get to it: the nominees for 2016's Unit of the Year Award are:

Good Luck to everyone!
