Hi all,

I’ve been looking into getting the newly released 15” MacBook Pro, with 6 cores and 32GB of RAM. It will satisfy all my work needs however will it run Civ VI flawlessly too?

I’m not too keen on paying the £500 required to get an eGPU however would this be the only way Civ VI can run perfectly on a Mac without an issue?

Any comments are very much welcome and much appreciated!

The 16GB version plays Civ VI just fine and is pretty zippy. The fans do kick in though.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated - are you referring to the 2017 MacBook Pro model or the 2018? Is this with 4 cores or 6?

Do you experience any lag later on in the game/unreasonable wait times per turn as the game progresses?

2018 15” model. Don’t see unreasonable wait times. Finished one full game so far, and it was 8 civs/standard size/standard speed/immortal that lasted about 320 turns.

Excellent thank you for the reply. Will press ahead - assuming these new found throttle issues aren't true..

Be aware of the throttling from the i9 in particular. That CPU seems to run very hot in any system, Mac or PC, with some heavy throttling as a result. I'd get the i7 if I was in the market for a new Macbook Pro. I got my new 15" just a month ago, so I missed the update, and Civ6 runs great on mine, so it should be even better on the new ones.

Thanks for the comments and info. I was waiting on to see what Apple responds with regarding the throttling issues but it appears i7 is the way to go!

I'm playing on a 2013 i7 Macbook Air 13" with 8GB ram. It also works on my 2011 27" iMac (top end i5 with 16GB ram & 1GB vram).
You will find it runs like a dream, even hosting multiplayer matches on a 2018 MBP with hexacore i7 or i9.
It also only needs 5GB ram free, so 32GB ram is more than enough to run Civ6 and Chrome browser at the same time.
With that much ram you could even run a multiplayer game of Civ 6 between mac steam and windows steam on the same Macbook Pro in VMware Fusion.

The i9 throttling was just the release firmware not having a digital certificate key. It has since been patched and works as advertised.
