we have a winner here folks

Uhm i didn't answer any question but seeing as it been 2 day's before the last answer i have made a question, nobody has to aswer it if they think im cheating :-).

I'm Dutch so my question relates to the netherlands.

When the Germans attacked the low country's there progress didn't go as fast as they intended (though holland surrendered after only a few days of war).

To force the netherlands to surrender the germans came with an ultimatum, they would bomb every major city in the netherlands, if they did not surrender.

Rotterdam was the first target, the commanding general of the dutch forces saw that there was not a single chance they could do to prevent defeat he surrendered to the germans to prevent the bombings and the civilian loss it would bring.

However Rotterdam was bombed anyway.

Question: Why did the germans bomb the city anyway?

Hint: Technical reasons.

Holland was an irritation in the great scheme of the attack on France. The sooner the Germans could take out Holland, the sooner they could concentrate all their resources on France. For this reason, they wanted to shock the politicians of Holland into surrendering. Rotterdam was the pay the price for this. The Germans decided to launch a ferocious attack on Rotterdam that would have such an impact, that the government of Holland would initiate a surrender.

On May 14th, the attack on Rotterdam started. The Germans used the excuse for such an attack that British troops had landed by the Maas River, thus endangering German troops based in the area. No such landing had taken place by the British. The attack started at 13.30 and within five hours, the Germans entered the centre of Rotterdam. There were 30,000 civilian casualties.

thats all I could find...

PS.. my father In law was a survivor of the German occupation, and supposedly my wifes grandfather wrote a book on it... still want to get my hands on it.

I don't think you will find the answer on an english site, its a pretty obscure piece of information. Though the answer is easy to guess.

well it could be political it could be because rodderdam has one of the largest harbors and well maybey because they wanted to shock the dutch into submitting so thry could concentrate on France, the dragged out battle of Holland was stalling the French offensive, and well they just wanted to finish off the dutch and move along to France.

Btw ... I heard someware the ppl who said the dutch would roll over and set the deadlines in planning stages of hitlers bold plan, were shot outright, for failure.

They didn't bomb rotterdam becouse of it being the biggest harbor in the world, the reason why the harbor was unimportant was becouse the english wouldn't send troops to holland becouse it was clear it wouldn't hold out long anyway, and thus would be a waste of material and men. The english also didn't give military support becouse the dutch wouldn't sign an alliance with england and france against the germans in 1939.

The netherlands hoped they could remain neutral just like in WW1, no luck this time though.

Still no answer :-( Ill wait 24 hours before giving the answer.

kinda like the whole reason London was bombed

well ill as another one...

Kinda easy

what were the 3 grades of wound badges in the German Army...

( mostly German questions, comes from what Im doing research on for a thesis lol)

Grades:

Black- One or two wounds.
Silver- Three or four wounds.
Gold- Five or more wounds.

Thanks to google, I don't know much of the detail questions myself. You would have to be pretty shot up to get a gold medal.

As far as I know the competition isn't about fastest googling. Of course, when you know it partly or want to verify your answer google is great.
Myself I prefer to wait for someone who does know the answer instead of googling, but that's anyone's own choice.

One should google only as a last resort, but to each his own in figuring
out when that is :crazyeye: .

Verwundeten Abzeichen
(Wound Badge)
Awarded to those wounded in action. Three grades existed, black for those wounded once or twice, silver (3 or 4 seperate injuries) and gold (5 or 6 seperate injuries). Silver and Gold could also be awarded for more serious injuries (brain damage, loss of a limb or such.)

If you got a silver or gold badge, you earned it!

New question: What was Operation Deadlight :scan: . Google only as last
resort. :mischief:
