I have a logistics question. We've all heard of the American C-Rations used in WW2 (and later). What specifically were A-Rations and B-Rations?
 
Different types of food, I reckon.

I think A-Rations were really good food while B-Rations was really staple staple food. SPAM, IIRC...

I do know what British and German rations were like

But what did the yanks eat ? Spam and baked beans ?

Field Rations A, B, C, and D. Field Ration A, a counterpart to the garrison ration, provided fresh food for central messing purposes in nongarrison areas. Field Ration B was similar to the A ration except that canned items replaced the fresh foods. Field Ration C was defined as a complete food-for-a-day packaged ration to be carried and utilized by the individual soldier. An emergency bar to sustain life when other sources of food supply failed was Field Ration D

BTW, there was also the K-Ration, which similar to the C-Ration, providing 3000 calories in meat (either pemmican or spam), candy, crackers, beverage mix (powdered lemonade or instant coffee) and 4 cigarettes in a 1½ pound (700 gram) package. The K-Ration was used primarily in the Pacific
