3.13 patch, multiplayer, and loss of sync

So I just installed the 3.13 patch, and fired up a multiplayer game with a friend of mine. Immediately after starting the map, before even taking the first turn, we got a nice red message on the screen stating that we had lost sync. A save a reload fixes it, but it always pops up soon afterward. We've played plenty of games with 3.03 before, and have never had this problem. Something tells me there will be a 3.13.1 or 3.14 patch soon.

I'm having the same exact problem...

Trying a reinstall on both PCs now..

Okay, we just did one. Here is a screenshot of what I see immediately after the game loads.

I zipped up the logs. I hope you can make more sense of them than I can.

Here's a screenshot from me.

It's not that I don't believe you... I just can't get it to happen here. I've started 3 different games, played them for a few dozen turns, and no OOS errors at all. Unfortunately that log doesn't really help, because the OOS value shows up before anything really happens. I can't see how that's even possible - the host sends the map to the other player, so how can that sent map end up with an OOS error? Damn confusing.

May you can try to delete your "My games/Beyond the sword" folder and the ":/Documents and settings/your user/Local Settings/Application data/My games"
It can help if you have a clean reinstalled version !

Bhruic, tell us what settings you use to configure the game. What map type, size, era, number of AI Civ's, options that are checked/unchecked, simultaneous on or off, etc, etc. I shared my settings in an earlier post. Try those and tell us if you can't recreate it.

It would appear to me that the OOS bug goes way deeper than map settings. I've tried a dozen different variables, with LAN, with Gamespy between my desktop and laptop, and with Gamespy between myself and a friend across the country. No matter what, I get the OOS message before the game even starts for new games and within a few turns for loaded games.

I've tried with a variety of settings too. I don't think it's the settings, my bet would still be that there are file differences. Either something left over in your My Games folder, or it not properly overwriting a file, or something like that. It's the only way you could really have a OOS error before the game has started.

Why? I have given up on MP till the patch is fixed so that OOS doesnt happen every 15 turns. Im also tired of hearing its because people have pirated versions (the people I play with all bought the dang game). Not to be a prick (ok Im being a prick sorry) but was the patch even tested before it was released for MP? Its bad enough we have to deal with lamespy on a daily basis but the OOS just makes MP useless. Please, and I do mean please fix this!! Please do not tell me that OOS problems are not happening more in MP and that its only pirated versions with this problem. In over two years of playing civ online I have only gone OOS once before the patch and 8 TIMES SINCE THE PATCH OF DOOM WAS REALESED!!!! LOL!! I also dont want to hear that I installed it incorrectly because I installed it the same way I have always done (thru the game sccreen) and never had a problem. If this is the incorrect way then why have a auto update install feature with the game? I have noticed some small bugs in SP but it seems as though most of them have been already mentioned. Please FIX the problem asap and thank you very much when you do.

How many people are you launching with? Is it on a lan? Not to mention that I ussually play earth maps online (so everyone already has the map so there is no map transfer).

I'm doing 2 player games over Direct IP. You always do the Earth maps? Any chance that there's an updated/modified version with 3.13?

Actually, let me know specifically which Earth map you play, I'll try a game with that and see if it's related.

Doomed_UK, I'm using Windows XP. I am currently in the process of reinstalling from scratch, including deletion of all MyGames data. I'll let you all know if it makes a difference for LAN or Gamespy games.

The map we were using was here:http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=7146

I highly doubbt its the map. We play with anywhere from 8-18 players on this map in MP (18 would be one in a couple hundred games) and we dont play direct IP games becuase if host has to rejoin game crashes. So if your only playing with only 1 other person on a direct IP I can say that you probably wont have any problems (not as many players and no lamespy to deal with).

Actually, the first reports of the MP bug were all people playing with DirectIP, and most of them were only playing with 2 players. So, in theory at least, I should be able to run into the same problem.

Try it on lamespy with at least 8-14 players. In fact get some of the people who made the patch to try it so they can crash and burn like we are.

P.S. Thanks for the help

Experiencing the same issue as well.

1) Two people playing Direct IP.
2) One is Steam, the other is not
3) Both are XP
4) First instance was a saved game from the previous patch
5) Started new game with new patched versions and sync issue started before I hit "CONTINUE" from the first popup screen.
6) Tried various settings nothing seems to solve random sync problems which are not so random anymore and just constant every turn.
