3.17 Patch broke my BTS!

BTS worked fine, I patched to 3.17 to play mods, During patching I get an error saying 3.17 is already installed (which I know it's not, because I'm working from a fresh install) and then when it does patch and completes successfully I run the game and get a totally new loading screen (the old one had a progress bar and gave status updates) the new one just says "Loading..." in a couple different languages, but here's the kicker... it never goes away... I'm going on 4 hours of that loading screen still there. Any ideas?!?!?!

it is likely that something was corrupted during the patch install and that you will need to reinstall the game, but first I'd like some information:

did you patch the game before patching to 3.17 (I gather not - just making sure).
are you using the cd/dvd version of the game or a downloaded one? if downloaded - from what vendor?

DVD version, and I installed, downloaded patch, ran patch, then it always freezes. I have even tried the INI copy trick to see if that's the problem, but it does not fix it.

when does it freeze?
also does the windows event manager show any error after it freezes?

it just sits on the loading screen, the one that says 'loading...' in all the different languages. I let it sit there for over 4 hours once. I can close the window by 'ending task' in task manager, but it only closes the box, the actual process stays in memory until I reboot.

what does the event manager say? it should contain some message stating that a program froze - along with some code...

hi when we are in this situation can anyone help me it works to go online in civ4 BTS but every time i try to join a game it says that it has a version that crittical doesnt match host version do anyone know about that i hope you can help
