[3.17] Please insert correct CD-Rom

I have recently updated to Civilization IV Beyond the Sword Patch 3.17 and am greeted every time I attempt to launch it with a "Please insert correct CD-ROM" message. I have attempted troubleshooting, however I cannot reach Firaxis Tech Support through any means and the support on the Website isn't working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Beyond the Sword 3 times, as well as the whole game one time, to no avail. I even checked other suggestions on these very forums, and they didn't work either. I am about to uninstall and go back to 3.13 where this problem doesn't exist.

Any suggestions?

You might want to know that the most common cause of this "error" is trying to update a cracked copy of the game...

Or ( suposing that you have legit software ) you might have emulation software conflicting with the game..... old nero versions are known for provoking errors like that

there are a few cd drives that are not compatible with safedisc - and this changes with each version of safedisc. I assume they included a new safedisc version with the patch, so you might want to check whether your cd-drive has a new firmware available...

Yeah, the new patch does seem to change safedisc behaviour a bit. I used to be able to use a work-around very reliably, but now it doesn't work so well.

I can use my original CD, which I suppose is what Firaxis is trying to force me to do, but it's a PITA. I hate disc copy-protection schemes. I'd much rather the protection be a registration system, like Half Life 2 uses. That way, you register once and never have to worry about the stupid copy protection again.
