Im just looking for some opinions / tips on this current game I am playing in.

I am Japan and am playing on Regent level, currently I am allied with India in a war against China (which India asked me to join with them for the price of democracy :).) We are all on a continent together with the other 2 civs not participating. We are all about to hit the next stage of tech (industrial) and I am massing an army of samurai to attack china and hopefully defeat him. China usually has 1 or 2 musketmen defending each city, with 4 at its capital Bejing. Question is, should I continue to attack China? As is it worth it to keep attacking until they either A. are eliminated or B. They ask for a peace treaty with a large bonus to me?

Also, I am running at 0% science and have about 120 gold per turn, is it wise to do what I have been doing and just buy it off other civs?

thanks a ton!

I would say it all depends on what you can get from China. You may want their cities and land (and better, with lux/res) by sending your boys over, or you may want to sue for peace soon and get techs/gold (if available) in return, and let Gandhi do the fight.

However, IMHO, I don't really like the idea using samurais to attack musketmen, unless you want to trigger a golden age.

In regards to tech buying, as you're about to enter the industrial age, prepare to pay a lot if you decide to buy. Money wise, it's always cheaper to buy than do your own research, but doing your own researching then selling the techs to the AI is very rewarding as you rake in a lot of per turn gold and cripple the AI's ability to research. :)

Just lay waste to China. If you cannot take the cities, pillage everything! (the cities will shrink, his tech will fall behind, his armies will be dispanded) ... and all you have to do is keep fast moving units (horsemen/samurai) running around for a couple of decades, keeping those pesky workers out of sight, and basically controlling his land until his defences are outdated and his cities become easy prey.

If that doesn't work, say... because your armies suck? Then this is plan B: After everything has been pillaged, his reinforcements cannot come to aid a city that you lay seige to. This means it's safe to fan units out: All you do is surround all squares in a cities radius with wee units, denying his people their breakfasts, and the city shrinks and becomes easier to capture.

Am I evil? :(

In regards to your research, I always like to be ahead of the tech, and periodically sell to them. My science is usually (at that age) around 60 - 70 %, insuring a healthy income yet still fairly efficient science output. That way, you are the one in control, and you don't have to go to the AI every time you want to move up the tech. ladder.

Ravage ChinA:mwaha:

Wait until he has two cities left and then go to him and ask for a peace treaty in return for EVERYTHING he has left, incl his remaining cities. Quickly surround the capital and destroy it once the peace treaty has been signed;)

Saves a few units and you can squeeze max out of China.

get cavalry if you are near industrial

yeah.. pile on the cavalry when u have about say 20.. launch an offensive ..
what i usually do is take asmuch as possible then when my troops are running out i sign a peace tretaty to get his techs/gold then i build up more and attack again ;)

i dont care if i have a bad rep!!

Cavalry isn't really that much better than Samurais. I wouldn't bother 'side-grading' them. Just send the screaming hordes at the chinese and when they are killed off, then start producing cavalry.

Cavalry are great, especially when supported with rails and artillery. I'll have to make a Strategy Article on that. The thing about Cavs though, is you should keep them in a stack, defended by a few rifles. You could take several workers over (I think 4 for non-industrious) to build a fort.
