300 Posts Before You Can Get A Custom Avatar?

This may be frowned upon, but couldn't you lower the number of posts needed for you can use a customised avatar? Currently it is 300 obviously, but isn't that a bit too high? I assume you enforce the rule that you have to have a certain amount of posts to avoid a situation where any old newbie (spot the oxymoron) could use an offensive or irritating avatar as you are unaware of their personality and by the time somebody has 300 posts they would know not to do such a thing, however I think by the time you have 200 or even 100 posts you will probably have been banned if you are likely to use an offensive avatar. I know I'm biased because I don't think I'll be reaching 300 posts any time soon, and anybody who already has 300+ posts probably couldn't care less, but I would like to be able to use a custom avatar now, or at least when I reach 200 posts. I like avatars, I think they are a way of making you, as a poster, stand out. They are a bit like your signature, only more memorable because they are in pictorial form. So could you lower the amount of posts you need for a custom avatar to something between 100 and 200 pleeeeeease? I'll give you a cookie if you do.

My recommendation to Thunderfall was to eliminate the automatic threshold and just convert the custom avatar privilege to a conferred privilege that is just a recognition for the site administration team.

There are several hundred avatars that you can choose from even without the custom avatar.

Eliminating the automagic custom avatar at 300 posts would serve many purposes:

• It would significantly reduce the current spam to 300 posts behavior that we see once or twice a week (China444 holds up his hand and says. 'yes I did this one')
• It would be easier to withdraw the privilege and would reduce the frequency of using the avatar as a rubber chew toy (Sultan and 37 others hold up their hand and say "Yep, I did this one too."
• It would cut down on the number of these threads about the subject
  [*}It would provide a positive reinforcment opportunity for moderators and admins to recognize members who are not "new" but who have reach a stage where their participation in teh site should perhaps be recognized in a positive way.

It's good as it is now. We save server space if not everyone with 1 post will get his/her own avatar

I think CFC should remove custom avatars and sigs and all the other things that make this site fun, then we could all take numbers instead of usernames.

Oh, btw, 30,000 custom avatars would take up 117Mb of server space @ 4k each, hardly worth worrying about. The more I think about this the more I can't understand the reason for a limit...

There isn't a real need for a limit but I guess it might keep people posting as they may post to get a custom avator and by that time be hooked so that they stay.

I remember that China...you had a thread in the OT that was closed by TF with a 10% posts reduction.

200 or 100 posts? I'm really not sure...it wasn't until 900 posts until I even thought of a custom avatar.

I think the current 300 post limit is fine. Its enough to have weeded out anyone who'll use a ridiculous avatar, but not so much that only 2% of posters will ever attain it.

You can change your avatar by going to your user cp and editing your options. At the bottom of that screen is where you can change your avatar.

I have some 3000+ posts and just used my first custom avatar yesterday.

IIRC, the avatar size limit is 60 x 60. So, here's what your avatar would look like if shrunk down to the correct size.
