Is anyone uber-familiar with the healing mechanism in cIV? How healthy will Aristotle be if we only heal for, say, 3 turns? Depending on terrain, we'll be able to hold off against most animals (except for bears )

I also thought wheater it's good just to heal partially.
2-3 turns will probably be neccesary to be able to defend successfully against lions, panthers and warriors with forrest-/jungle- and hillbonus.
5 turns will probably enough if we have at least hills-bonus. (~1.6 will do)
Let's wait 2 or 3 turns to decide then finally...

I think healing in unclaimed territory is 10% per turn. (i.g. warrior will heal 0.2 per turn).
I see no point on rushing, since there isnt villages there isnt much difference between exploring now or in 10 turns, only reason for keep exploring is that in the event we find an enemy civilization we declare war on them for annoying.
If thats the plan in case we find a civilization (I support it), heal 2-3 turns and go for it, otherwise fortify and heal.
The point of fast exploring is in the possible advantage in research for oth sides. If we would know now 2 teams we get for fishing +1 because all teams have it. But this is only a very small point.
No war without copper I think.
btw
I would like to play in 5-6 hours. we 've 14 hours time.
Look here.
The thread explain the whole research. I have read it a few years ago and then found some mistakes, but the basics are right.
We get, when we know k teams, who knows our research-tech, an additional multiplyer of (1 + 0,06*k),
also for 1 team 1,06 * 11 = 11
also for 2 teams 1,12 * 11 = 12
also for 3 teams 1,18 * 11 = 12
also for 4 teams 1,24 * 11 = 13
later if our commerce is better, then we get an advantage from every team, they also.
