First off, thanks for any help I get!

I'm running an HP Pavilion a819n 2.8gHz P4 with 1.5GB ram, and recently upgraded from integrated graphics to the 3d Fuzion 6200 PCI 128mb to play AOEIII...which runs pretty ok.
Just bought Civ IV, playing on a standard world, high graphics. Ran pretty good early on, though the Wonder Movies were choppy. So I checked out the forums, which recommended rolling back the nVidia Drivers to 71.89. Well, I tried that driver, which does not support my card. So now I've got the 81.95 driver installed. Wonder movies were running better, but now I'm in the Industrial period, and the game is REALLY starting to lag/get choppy. I'd appreciated any suggestions! Thanks!

Try this:

Delete everything in the game cache. Unhide hidden files and look for the 'cache' folder in the Application Data folder under the root path of where you installed the game. Delete everything there.

Settings in the .ini file:
; Allows some memory savings *** ALT-TAB WILL NO LONGER FUNCTION ***
MemSaver = 0

; Don't skip frames if falling behind
BinkNoSkip = 0

; Copy entire image each frame, not just dirty pixels
BinkCopyAll = 0

; Show movies using hi-color, not true-color (may be faster)
Bink16Bit = 1

; Copy ever other scanline during movie playback (faster)
BinkInterlace = 0

; Allow Screenshots. May affect performance on some video cards
AllowScreenShots = 1

Display control panel settings - Advanced GeForce 6200 tab:
AA settings = App controlled or Off.
VSnyc = Off
Image setting = High performance
Triple Buffering = Off.

Game settings:
AA = 0

It is a well-documented bug about the movies and some low-res ones are in the pipeline. No idea when they will get released however. I have the above settings on my machine and the movies play perfectly although I do have the next step up as far as the video card goes but I doubt it will make much difference. Before I made these changes, movie playback was choppy so either one of these changes or a combination of them as made them better.

Thanks! That has certainly helped. After playing like that for a few hours, I've now noticed that the game seems to get really choppy after diplomacy with another leader!?! If I just quit out and restart, it's fine. Any suggestions?
