I'll squeeze worker in build order...
But i think i will postpone on building a granary...
Playing AW game i don't want to be left with 2 warriors and bunch of AIs troops around...
We should only build granary in berlin after our 2nd city starts pumping units.
Starting location is confirmed.
As promised will play tomorrow...

I am off for the new years party.... although it doesn't feel like celebrating a holidays with all the events taking place in the world.

;) And I get to listen to goz whine about missing gold pieces....

Delaying the granary is a good move and I think the town layout should be no looser than CxxxC.

Haven't checked the save but if the closest opponents are expansion minded we are going to need spear/archer combos soonest.

Only played this variant once before as a 5CC and the early AI thrusts were relatively weak and building up vet spear and archer combos allowed active defence on the borders.

Thanks.

The PBEM starts tomorrow again, my computer will not work in +30C and I'm here on borrowed time :)

I love the position on the roster, playing after Bede is one of my favorite things in SG's. I won't miss one coin

I am about to start playing have one question.
If i see AI scouts running around... Do i have to initiate diplomacy or can i wait and ignore them until they show up themselves?
This game reminds me SGOTM3 and in that game we could postpone initial diplomacy.

IGNORE THIS POST. PLEASE READ THE THREAD BELOW

Ok.
It is 3200BC and we are at war with Carthage, the only tribe we met so far...
I only played 17 turns, becase it is a point where we need to make team decision. So i am uploading picture and the save and let next player to continue.

Here comes the report

T1. 4000BC. Moving worker to the wheat.. no new tiles open... So i am taking settler SE

T2. 3950BC. Settler SE and next turn we will establish our capital city. Worker roads wheat

T3. 3900BC. Berlins is found. Warrior in 5. Pottery at 90% in 7 turns. Gman are you sure we play an Emperor level? ;)
Looks like we do, but it is awfully fast research for the emperor level and pop1 city. The hill the capital is built on top of generates whopping 3 gold.

T4. 3850BC. nothing

T5. 3800BC Worker road wheat->Irrigate wheat.

T6. 3750BC Berlin grows to pop2. Berlin warrior->worker. Sci. slider up to 100% pottery in 2.
Berlin has pop 2 and will grow in 4. It can also build warrior in 2 turns. I will
build warrior in 2 then worker in 2 and worker will be build just in time when Berlin reaches pop 3.

T7. 3700BC. nothing.

T8. 3650BC. Berlin warrior->worker. Pottery comes and i switch to research wheel at max in 9 turns. Moving warrior
to the top of mountain and i see some grapes N-N-NE. We will have to claim that.. I am curious to do some scouting
around, but at the same time i don't want to hurry until we get few more units.

T9. 3600BC. Worker irrigated wheat moves to flood plain. Berlin grows in size. Lux slider up 10%, Science slider down 80%. Wheel in 8.

T10. 3550BC.Berlin worker->warrior. Settler is coming next. Sci slider is up 100%. Worker roads flood plaing.

T11. 3500BC Workers irrigates flood plain. Scouting Warrior finds 2 cows north from us. Wheel in 4 turns.

T12. 3450BC. nothing

T13. 3400BC Berlin expands. Worker moves on top of gold hill. settler in 6. Sci. slider down to 80%

T14. 3350BC. Scouting warrior meets Carphage warrior up north. We go to dip screen. They have all the techs we have plus masonry and alphabet. I declare war.

T15. 3300BC. Berlin grows to pop4. Wheel comes and we have no horses in explored land. Switch to IW at 90% in 7 turns. Hope we have better luck finding iron with all those hills.
Lux slider up 10%. Berlin grows in 2 settler is ready in 2. Worker irrigated flood plain, move to the plains to hook up sugar.

T16. 3250BC. nothing.

T17. 3200BC. Berlin settler->barracks. Lux slider down to 0%.

Post turn: I didn't put much thought on city location and i did not move settler on my last turn. I think we should settle north/nort-west where cows and grapes are. I have no idea what is going on south from us.. Looks like a river behind that mountain.

Research strategies:
After researching IW at max, if we have horses found go for HR ASAP, if there are no horses go for Alphabet->Writing->Philosophy...
We have so much gold we should be able to beat AIs and get freebie tech upon researching Philo.

edit: There is another strange thing with this map in addition to super fast research rates. I noticed berling grows every 2 turns if i have 5fpt... But i thought it was only possible if i had granary in town... Am i right or wrong or is it a modded map

Here is mini-map:

carthage put on the list :) i guess we've learned lesson #1, don't scout too much in the begining

I say we take the hill directly SE of the lowest cow. that city can work the 2 cows and the wheat (if we ever want it to) + gets the hill for defence. we can then put a town on the coast near the grapes. the town location to the SW gets screwed up in regards to distance from the capitol (4 tiles) but we can't have everything :) at least it'll be 3T from our supercity.

my proposed sites, not perfect either but the three cities will make a good front. if anyone has better ideas, please propose :)

I would go for cows then vino. Only drawback is that is right in the face of Carthage.

Query: do we want water to the cows or just take the base 3f1s and mine it for 3f2s? If we want water to the cows than the hill 3NE is the best choice.

Berlin does look like a supercity indeed....
Only If we figure how to use another city as a settler factory and have berlin pumping units we can create powerful army in no time.
We better have some iron nearby though :)

I noticed berling grows every 2 turns if i have 5fpt...
This sounds like you have accelarated production on. Even goes at double speed.

Gman, Is that something we should know about??
We definetely have doubled growth rate and speed of light research pace.

If we want to make that second city to become 4-6 settler factory, while Berlin makes our mighty military, then water for the cows.

crap, AC is on! i never turn that on, i don't know what the **** happened. let me fix the save then we try again. i'll post it shortly

It's okay captain!!
Just fix it and let us know how to proceed with the game.

here, i fixed the original save. just try to repeat your steps if you have time. after you settle, just make sure that a warrior costs 10 shields, not 5 :)

edit: oh, and thanks Lee :)

I am on it.... will do my best... but can't promise exact repeat since production and research cost changes.

Ok, I have cheated a little. I started researching IW instead of wheel...
Plus we know the map already so i didn't send warriors to scout...
I can replay it again if you think this will seriously affect the game or we can get a totally new map.
I am sorry i should have stopped my initial turn set right away when i noticed discrepancy.

T1. 4000BC. Moving worker to the wheat.. no new tiles open... So i am taking settler SE

T2. 3950BC. Settler SE and next turn we will establish our capital city. Worker roads wheat

Worker roaded flood plains and move him on top of golden hill.
T18. 3150BC. Worker to road golden hill.
T19. 3100BC. Worker moves on sugar. Berlin warrior->barracks. Use warrior for MP in Berlin and drop lux down to 0%, sci up to 100% IW in 10 turns.
T20. 3050BC. Carthage warrior shows up from NW. Since it is my last turn i will let next player to make a decision on trading... Carthage has masonry and alphabet and they will trade either one of those for our WC+Pottery+13Gold we have.
Feel free to change Berlin from barracks to something else.

Map and save will follow.

ok dman, i won't hold this against you, especially since it was my fault :) we are still going to war with Carthage like last time. i would not give them WC as i want us to have the arrows, not them, but that's just me.

bede is up
gozpel is on deck.

Got it. Following plan. Water to my cows. Beer for my horses. Whiskey for my men, and Hannibal will go arrowless.
