I had been wanting to play Cleopatra for a while now, so this was right up my alley!

CV, turn 149/150.

At first I wasn't sure whether to go for Science or Culture, and actually started building campuses first, but then remembered that with the monopoly multiplier a CV was likely to be faster. The game was very smooth and quite fun- the combination of Voidsingers, monopolies, Prince level AIs and no Nubia or Ottomans made for a very relaxed game.

What did you prioritize for research and policies?

Astrology first and foremost, after that I sort of haphazardly made my way to Cartography, after that it didn't matter much.

- Did you bother with Religion ?

Yes of course; the Desert Folklore/Work Ethic combination was the obvious way to tackle the map, so a religion was top priority. But I never bothered to complete the religion- just had Work Ethic and World Church as the two beliefs for the whole game.

- How did you pump your Tourism?

Never did get any religious tourism apart from the Holy City (no relics), and only had about 15 - 20 Great Works I think, but did build a bunch of Wonders and of course made sure to get as many monopolies as I could (I think I had 5 at the end).

- How did you pump your science?

Population, and massive faith output coupled with the Voidsingers Chorus promotion. Chorus coming on in the Medieval Era just supercharges everything.

- Were City-States helpful?

Not especially; I killed Jerusalem on turn 2 and found no other religious city state, but still had over 400 fpt by the end.

- Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?

Was slowed down by my own misconception; I at first thought that getting an industry on a luxury gave you the tourist boost, only later came to realize that I needed to control at least 60% of the resource for it to count as a monopoly. I think I could very likely have shaved a bit of time off had I played it correctly from the beginning, and had I focused on CV right from the start.
Biggest (welcome) surprise was not having to deal with Nubia.

- How was the huge tsl map??

Fun for a change, but felt like a bit of a cheat, since you pretty much know where to expect AI Civs to pop up.

- Did you enjoy the game?

Yes, it was a lot of fun.

Turn 180 CV, (turn 131 on replay, lost the autosave to attach when I replayed)

Was originally going for science but looked at the victory screen around turn 130 and was ~1/3 way to a CV so refocused. Could have been faster (as noted by the replay) if I did that originally.

- What did you prioritize for research and policies?
Astrology/desert folklore/work ethic for some massive production. Beelined theology for the 100% holy adjacency then universities once I got Newton.

- Did you bother with Religion ?
Yes as mentioned above. Probably would not have if it weren't for the wonder next door.

- How did you pump your Tourism?
Used Owls to get suz on most nearby CS. Wonder spam with Brussels just for the tourism. Wiped out Ngazagamu and Mali to control all of Africa. Took the Jerusalem settler. Easy monopolies on diamonds, ivory, olives, incense. A few sphinx and Grenada's UI but doubt they played a role. Mali's commercial hubs helped me get some merchants for the corporations.

On the replay I settler/builder spammed all the lux earlier, hence the 50 turn difference.

- How did you pump your science?
Was able to get Hypatia, Newton and the one that gives science = holy site. Good for +22 sci/faith/prod. Suz Fez to spread religion once the cities got to around 8 for a small boost.

- Were City-States helpful?
Jerusalem and Ngarzagamu were "annexed". Brussels for the wonder spam. Hattusa to get horses quicker to wipe out Mali, although they weren't really needed.

- Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?
Brussels never settled. Almost took the settler but realized was more valuable as suz.

- How was the huge tsl map??
My PC handled it so I'm happy.

- Did you enjoy the game?
Wish I'd realized the power of monopolies earlier. Could have had a dynamite score I think. Regardless, it was enjoyable.

CV turn 127
Settled in place and sent warr to SI hex and on next turn Jerusalem offered free settler :) so i grabed him and founded 2nd city to the south. I founded 2 more cities west from first two, rest were taken by force and 3 switched to me as result of AI stupid placement.

I founded religion, naturally, with such starting position but haven't even had time to expand it to all my cities before game was over (had to invest in some workers along the way)

Mali beat me to pyramids by 1 turn which resulted in chop of 3 maryannu chariots and eradication of cheeky bastard. :D
Gaul capital is set to fall in next turn, french capital few turns later. Haven't even discovered americas yet.
All in all extra easy game with awsome holy site yields as can be seen in screen shot :D

P.S. Isn't it kinda stupid that you can win by tourism against civ you haven't even met in game..?

Cultural Victory, T142, Score 835, 16 h

It ran much faster than what I expected with the huge map. The base for the win was a large expansion to fetch the monopolies boost on tourism, coupled with wonder building and relics (although write works were perhaps more important).

Founded 18 cities and conquered a free city (plus one settler traveling to the New World as I write). Captured 3 settlers (Jesuralem, Ambiorix and Eleanor), built 3 and purchased 8 with gold and 4 with faith. Coupled with Ancestral Hall, the Pyramids and Serfdom, I quickly fetched all the luxuries in my region and beyond.

I went for Lady of the Reeds and Marshes and Etemenanki to quickly exploit the fertile Nilo. The science output was great even if I had only two campuses for most of the game, Râ Kedet had the highest output despite not having a campus! The Lady helped was very nice with the marshes at central Africa and Europe.

20210905135927_1.jpg

Founded the 3rd religion, getting Reliquaries for early tourism and Sacred Places to benefit from my neighbors wonders as much as mine. There was some religious wars with Kristina, but I only was lucky with a single Martyr promotion. By when I finished Mount St. Michel the game was already hitting the Cultural Win, but I had started to send some martyrs to America.

Aside from the Jerusalem's settler present, I put a lot of pressure in the european civs as I found unprotected settlers from Ambiorix and Eleanor. Ambiorix's second city was conveniently razed by Venice. I later made peace with Ambiorix and even befriended him. With Eleanor I also made peace as I wanted to improve relationships with other civilizations, but both civilizations were contained by then. Ambiorix managed to settle another city that revolted due to Kristina's pressure, and I fetched through military with a Spearman and two Archers. I made a cultural alliance with Kristina to maintain this city and settle in Great Britain. With a bit of time I think both Ambiorix and Eleanor capitals will fall to loyalty pressure.

20210903201114_1.jpg 20210904012634_1.jpg

It was fun to make the desert productive, with Lady of the Reeds and Marshes, preserves and Petra.

Research was focused in Printing Press and Cartography, switching back and forth as I managed to obtain Eurekas. By T132 I had found all the civilizations. Both Classical and Medieval eras were Golden Ages with Monumentality.

It was interesting to play an Earth map for a change. You have a rough idea of where to explore. Thanks a lot for the game!

Spoiler Turn 134 :

20210905213643_1.jpg

Nice game, although snapping the first settler from Jeruselem probably makes a difference of 20-30 turns in the end. That seems slightly unfair (since its RNG-dependent on turn 1).
Lady of the Reeds and Marshes was amazing this game, although I suppose Desert Folklore also made a lot of sense. It was interesting to play on the real world map, since you can make guesses where the last civs can be ;)

Thanks for the game :)

Cultural Victory 150 Turns

Fun game, I never seem to play on TSL or huge so this was interesting. So many city states early on that my Capitol was a real powerhouse from the first meets getting envoys/bonus.
Decided to be peaceful and happy with people. Managed it for the whole game, until some enemy missionaries came by from France and Gaul, then my apostals went and wiped their home religion out! But that still peach, kind of
Settled in place and then went south to populate Africa. Gained all the resources from there. And it was good. Sent a double team of settlers into the middle of Asia the support each other and establish a colony there, Gaul had a city rebel and join me, that was funny.

- What did you prioritize for research and policies?
I was all over the place for this, I went for whatever seemed good at the time and immediately necessary. I should have focused on getting Theatre squares more early on, that delayed me a lot.
- Did you bother with Religion ?
Yes once I though about it and looked at the map. Marshes gave me early production in capitol. A holy site by the natural wonder was really necessary with Work Ethic - the pushed me into building lots of holy sites.
- How did you pump your Tourism?
Lots of Wonders once I got going. Lots of Books.
- How did you pump your science?
I didn't bother much, got a decent campus early then kind of ignored it
- Were City-States helpful?
Very much so. The boost from first meets was essential to my early growth, then I targeted sending envoys, and trade routes (my society gave me bonus envoys)
- Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?
Not really
- How was the huge tsl map??
Lots of fun. Never play that normally, but it let me know roughly where to explore
- Did you enjoy the game?
Very much so.

CV156 capture Jerusalem settler one from France and. the one from Bruxelle built 5 ships and capture Gibraltar ,France ,Sweden and Gaule.
Kept rolling other Civ focusing on religion.
I should of stop waring a bit earlier but I was having too much fun :)
I also pick the Minerva SS to try it out ,not so good for CV
Thanks for the game

CV176. Didn't capture any settlers, quite lucky that so many others got Jerusalem. I didn't see it as a viable option, with the two warriors (or even more units?) and location they had.

I got a strange loyalty captured city from France really early. It was located in Sicily and I had not even revealed the city (just borders) when it decided to join me. It wasn't super helpful with the limited land it covered, but still kind of nice. Later I also converted one Malian city and just moments later captured 2 of his most important cities.

I like real world maps in principle, but in reality AI (even Deity) is so bad at settling/playing them, it takes away most of the fun. I had the whole of Africa incl. Madagascar (though a few CS of course remained), Balkan and cities even to one part of Siberia. Could have probably settled 10-15 more cities, but didn't bother and kinf of ran out of time. Europe was too crowded in this setting (was it just random AI generation).

CV 148/9
Couldn't capture the settler, warrior in the way. Did not care anyway, wanted a nice relaxing game which is what was had.
To be fair I did not want to share Africa but beyond that it was just stroll in, I even forgot to get printing early, its been so long
Did not even see a relic before T100 in anyones deck so did not bother founding religion although it was the first district I built.
prince on known map was a nice welcome back from playing HK, all that desert, I naturally had to get Petra.

Replay, SV turn 214/215

I went back and re-played this game from turn 1, this time aiming for SV from the get-go. Foreknowledge of the map was a bit helpful wrt city states, but Prince AIs are so inert I don't think it made much difference beyond that. Again used the Desert Folklore/Work Ethic combination, with World Church to enhance my culture. I think this game spoiled me for a bit- the DF/WE combo is so exceedingly powerful, and there was such a vast expanse of desert to populate that it will be hard to feel satisfied with more conventional starts now! Three straight Monumentality Golden Ages were awesome....

Playing on Prince level was a little mystifying in that I found the science started to outstrip my ability to get Eurekas, and Great Scientists were obsolete before I could even recruit them even though I was making >120 Great Scientist points per turn at the end. My victory time was limited by my ability to produce the space projects, not by the science or even culture, plus I lost about 5 turns to a storm that pillaged my initial spaceport.

One major difference- I deliberately avoided building any theater squares (did capture 1) and avoided making industries on luxuries as I didn't want the monopoly modifiers to kick in and race towards CV- in fact I absentmindedly started to do that and then went back to remove the improvements when tourism started to kick up precipitately.

I'm sure others can do better, prob a sub-200 turn win, but this is my fastest SV time (granted it's only Prince) so I'm very happy!

Thanks (again) for a fun game!

I got a t138~9{HOF says 138, but I got to play out 139} CV on 9/08~09/2021{was after midnight when I finished} w/ a Score of 577

Was mostly just trying to have Fun, so I was surprised to win as fast as I did! I did make a few mistakes along the way; maybe could of won faster, but I'm happy with this result.
- What did you prioritize for research and policies? I Prio Mining so that I could go into Pyramids and Get an Encampment for a CS Mission. I didn't care much for Policies, so I stuck with +5Barb/+1Prod until it was time to work on 2nd Wonder, then I plugged in Corvee
- Did you bother with Religion? No. While I could of gotten it easily, and even though there were current city-states around to help with it, I decided instead to go for a Funny Preserve Set up! {So I also Beelined Mysticism}
- How did you pump your Tourism? I relied on Pingala with Curator, w/ Oracle and Apadana to Grab every GW of Writing. Combining that with Voidsingers' OGOs to hold them all, and just made sure I had Open Borders with everyone at all times! {that and Monos, never got Corps}
- How did you pump your science? I kind-of didn't... I build 1 campus for a Mission, but relied on Pingala and a 13 pop Capital + working tiles. I never built any Universities; and Sadly, I forgot to upgrade VS to Chorus, otherwise I would of gotten to curtains techs & civs sooner, and maybe won sooner too.
- Were City-States helpful? 100% Yes!, I was able to meet many of them First for their Envoys, then Proceeded to get many Suz for Back to Back Golden Ages. There were times I levy'd some units to Deal with Barbs, scouted with them Afterword and found some hidden Tribal Villages; as well as, got Missions/Tech Boost from them too!
- Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it? there were 2 events. The first was Meeting Gaul by him Settling a City near me, only for it to Immediately start to, then Rebel, and flip to me, lol. He then Settled another City, and then It too Rebelled and Flipped to me, lol. The 2nd Event however: On the Turn I meet Elanor, she had Levy'd a Huge Army and had it right next to one of my undefended Cities. I panicked and tried to give her gifts to make her Friendly towards me... only for someone else to break her Suz in-between turns, un-levying the units.
- How was the huge tsl map?? No Clue, Honestly. I didn't really get a Chance to explore it. I mostly stayed were I was at, and won without even meeting 2 of the Civs.
- Did you enjoy the game? 100% Yes!! I haven't gotten a Chance to Play as Cleopatra yet, so not only was this a Fun learning experience for me, But It also gave me a Few ideas for some future games as her!!

Thank You so much for the Fun game, and thank you for the Tweet about the game as well{wouldn't of known about it otherwise} There is 2 game files because I didn't know which would be needed...

Couldn't capture the settler, warrior in the way. Did not care anyway, wanted a nice relaxing game which is what was had.
To be fair I did not want to share Africa but beyond that it was just stroll in, I even forgot to get printing early, its been so long
Did not even see a relic before T100 in anyones deck so did not bother founding religion although it was the first district I built.
prince on known map was a nice welcome back from playing HK, all that desert, I naturally had to get Petra.

i made this and a couple of other saves before HK was released so i could give it some play thruoghs with out having to worry about making a 6otM. HK is very nice for a fresh release, will be nice to see how it develops. what have your inpressions been it so far?

I think my impressions have been reflected in steam stats, HK has dropped off and Civ has grown.
As for the game, the first few playthroughs, there are some good mechanics that keep you excited, then to me some things started feeling wrong, and then I quit in disgust.

the reason why I quit was, there is something buggy when preparing to attack an army, if you move a stack adjacent and it is weaker than theirs, they attack you in your turn, damn annoying but you can cope with it. However, one day, playing against 8 hun armies I got all of my armies within 2 hexes then declared war with the intention of moving in a stack on a few fronts in my turn. What happened was the moment I declared war, all hun armies attacked my stacks where beneficial getting choice if target, first strike and choice of ground.

beyond that clearly buggy thing.

Left and right mouse inconsistencies are annoying me more than they should,
The inability of the AI to resolve a combat decently for you forces you to fight your combats when then ends up taking most of your game-play time, this makes it more of a 1x game (exterminate) and I prefer other choices of game if I want to war. It a doomstacks compromise that turns the game to tar for me. Civs tactical overlay is a compromise that works for me.
They have basically made HK that same as civ with all additional content activated. There is a lot of toys and benefits, too many, too easy to snowball and it will be complex to tune.
I really do not see the benefit of building 5 districts instead of 1 and what it gives in adjacency benefits which are the OP thing in civ.

Stability is in most ways great and is happiness/loyalty with civic flips and rebels rather than changing civs.
The civics concept is interesting but ultimately too weak to be of interest
Way too much depends on science, city limits, army size, everything, making science more powerful than it is in civ.
Osmosis of science and civics should be at every border, not just where the opposition is influential. A great concept though and would be a great levelling anti-snowball device if done in that way.
The UU/UD aspect is good because you do build and use them.
Diplomacy is multiple times better.

the bottom line is, when I played this GOTM I started and finished as Egypt and it felt like playing Egypt.
I really cannot remember who I played with and who against in my last few games and just started autobuilding as everything was taking 1 turn to build but to have spent all that time getting ready for an awesome comeback against the mighty huns…. They cheated, rant rage foot stamp, fan flutter aaaaghh.

I generally like the combat which I find less cumbersome than Civ. The snowball is a major concern as you can quickly out strip the science of the other civs. I like the evolution of your civ over time but I can see where others might not like that. Overall im happy with it, and i look forward to further expansions and hopefully Fraxis will be motivated to make 7 an improved game over 6

Culture victory Turn 155, score 798
I had 1 "crash" (the game locked up in the middle of the turn rollover), save file added.

I went heavy on the wonders. Lots of golden ages. I should have pushed harder for the victory, but I was having too much fun.

This is the reason I dont put my recaps up on my games I ALWAYS spend too much time building my empire and not bothering to finish quickly.
