    - How many cities did you settle or capture?

20 in total, incl cap, 2 from germany, 1 from norway.

    - What did you prioritize for research and policies?

Culture stuff, but haven´t had a real masterplan. :undecide:

    - Did you bother with religion?

Yes, Godess of the Harvest and Jesuit Education, both combined really OP . Rest (Cathedrals, Religious Unity and Colo) was useless, my fault. Well, maybe not colo, as for instant Jesuit education, but those few missionaries wouldn´t have been that costly^^

    - How did you pump your Culture?

Early on, lots of chopped theatre squares, some wonders and faith purchased writer slots. Then more wonders, faith/gold purchased GWAMs and Archaeologists. It´s kinda exploitive to purchase the latter with Monumentality, but I made the mistake to care about artists. Open Borders/Trade routes with everyone, except Norway who hated me despite I had 3 early ships

    - Did you instigate any major wars?

Apart from the really early war, there was only one CS emergency war against Norway, splitted 8000g with Mapuche (who wasn´t participating). Didn´t know awards (gold) adjust when you enter a new era, good thing. Was thinking of a warmonger route, but Scythia had tons of horsemen/archers, a GG and walls/encampments all over the place, so i skipped war as there was enough land anyways. :shifty:

    - Were City-States helpful?

Lots! 75 envoys in the end. Especially being souz over 4 mercantile ones was great. Brussels was nice to have as well, together with La Venta/Jerusalem. Babylon´s science boni were also okay. Wasn´t really caring about the cultural ones. It is nice not to see the AI taking over all of them. Timed Kilwa right, being souz over at least 2 mercantile, religious, industrial and cultural each at the moment of the wonders construction. Nice little thingy. :smoke:

    - How did the new features help you?

    Like which?

    - Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?

None apart from the map, which was obv by t100. It took really lots of time to attract tourists whatsoever, at least it felt like that, tho everyone was in trade route range....

    - Did you enjoy the game?

Yes, but in the 2nd half it felt kinda isolationist.
    Thank you @Knowtalent !:)

    Turn 224
Took out Germany early. Then peace for the rest of the game until right near the end when my religious alliance with Tomris caused me to declare on Russia. The weird thing is during that same turn roll-over Russia asked to be friends again, which I accepted. During my turn I restarted the scientific alliance with Russia. A few turns later I discovered I was still at war with Russia when his troops got close enough for my cities to bombard them. However, on the diplo screen there wasn't even a greyed out option for peace with Russia, so this was clearly a bug that only happens if one AI starts a war with an ally that causes you to auto-declare on them, then that same AI immediately asks to be your friend.

    Turn 190/191, 975 score.

Missed Goddess of the Harvest by 1 turn (didn't find any Religious City-States until too late to help) but got Jesuit Education with the second religion. First city went on the coast, northeast side of the river. Second city was Piopiotahi. Third city was absconded Germans. Fourth city was Aachen. Fifth was Hong Kong. Sixth should have been Antioch but by then I was faith buying Settlers. 11 founded, 1 smashed for the Era Score and proximity, 1 City state in the wrong place at the wrong time, 1 flipped Russian city when Peter decided to settle near Jerusalem, several Scythian cities in the midst or on the cusp of flipping. If anyone took Brussels I want to hear about it!

Delhi had Pyramids, Petra, Forbidden City, Statue of Liberty and was working on The Hermitage (oh yeah, and Turn 101 Oracle!) Aachen had Chichen Itza, and eventually a Zoo for the best Jungle ever. I had things set up to get 8 cities covered by the Colosseum then never got around to settling the eighth city.

Norway was wonder spamming early, Russia wonder spamming late. If Peter hadn't sniped Potala Palace from me I think I finish 5 turns earlier. I tried real hard to get all the cheap Great Writers but Peter managed to get Yu Quan because I couldn't quite scrape up the gold. Met England, the last civ, on turn 73. Got Golden and stayed Golden, pure Monumentality. The best Scout is a Builder during Monumentality.

Just a giant love fest for my part after Frederick disappeared in the Ancient, but Lautaro and Mongolia squabbled all game long, off and on. Towards the end Kapuche declined my Friend request and Genghis got serious, working on rubbing Lautaro out. Rumors said he was thinking about taking on England next!

Wow, do you miss out on a lot with no Barbs and Goodie Huts. I'm not used to having to hard research Archery and Bronze Working all the way! No camp money had an effect too.

Most of culture was from great writers I believe. I had Oracle and goddess of harvest, so I could buy them. I also had plenty of holy sites and tried to get relics, but it was little hard to get them. AI was friendly and I had open borders almost all the time.

    - How many cities did you settle or capture?
    - Settled 7. German capital Aachen loyality flipped to me just before victory.

    - What did you prioritize for research and policies?
    Research: Printing
Policies: Monarchy for Mt St Michael, Theocracy for St Basil Cathedral, etc...

    - Did you bother with religion?
    - Wanted to have lots of relics for with the 3x tourism and faith belief. I had to build new city for Mt St Michael spot, so it took quite long to get Apostiles with martyr promotion. Also Germany didn't bother to kill my Apostoles, who had to move to Russia. Getting them killed was not straightforward.

    - How did you pump your Culture?
    - Lots of theater districts placed adjacent to wonders if possible.

    - Did you instigate any major wars?
    - Not a single war.

    - Were City-States helpful?
    - Babylon would have been, but Norway captured it. I thought about liberating but was too lazy to go that far.

    - How did the new features help you?
    - Curator government promotion was OK. Magnus of course for chopping.

Probably could have been faster. Should have ignored the Eifel Tower (which never got built) and just gone straight to computers. A near perma-war the whole game through as I annexed cities from the various civs. I was surprised at how fast I was chewing through the techs with Babylon. In fact it moved so fast that, after losing my only battering ram, I found myself having to build a catapult army then upgrade to bombard, then artillery for the golden age warring against Lautaro. Finally clicked the Ghandi achievement as well ;-).

T106/107, Culture Victory (showed 15/15 tourists on T106, when I hit end of turn it shows win and then cycles through others and shows 17/15 tourist on T107 with no AI having more than 14 internal tourists on either turn)

    - Where did you settle your cities? How many cities did you settle or capture?
Total of 9 cities: Capital/Delhi 2N of start, Agra 6SE of capital; Mumbai with captured German settler east of Agra; captured German capital of Aachen, created 3 more settlers, Kul Oba when it rebelled; 1 additional settler near end to try to get trade route bonuses with far away AI, but did this too late to be helpful

    - What did you prioritize for research, policies, and governance cards?
    Research
: Mining, Pottery, Irrigation, Astrology, Mining, Sailing, Writing, AH, Archer, BW (should have done this sooner for chopping), Currency, headed to Printing
Civics: CoL, Craft, FT, EE, SW, D&P, Pol Phil, Mys, MilTrad, G&R, headed to Natural History
Governance: varied, Urban to start, Agoge for military, Maritime for ships, Land Survey to buy plots for chopping, Literary Tradition for faster Great Writers, etc.

    - What was your build order?
    T02-Delhi
: Settler, Builder x2, Monument, Slinger x2, Warrior, Holy Site, Galley x3, Pyramids, Gov Plaza, Gov Bldg, Theater, T62-Shrine, tons of builders with faith
(Note: For settler first, I started construction of a builder, then switched to settler as soon as I hit size 2, so T17-Settler, T19-Builder.)
T22-Agra: Warrior, Monument, Builder, Theater, Oracle, Campus, T71-Commerce
T32-Mumbai: Slinger, Trader, Builder x2, Settler x3, Theater, Amphitheater, T60-Campus

    - How soon did you build a District? Which ones did you prioritize?
Started Holy Site, Gov Plaza; then focused Theaters and Commercial Hubs with a couple Campuses

    - Did you bother with religion?
Yes, generally a waste of time, but did give a little tourism; should have started with a Campus instead for faster printing; I didn’t get a Pantheon until T53, but still got Goddess of the Harvest; I’d already finished chopping in my capital

    - How was the lack of Barbarians?
Strange and cool. It let me start with a completely different build order. I didn’t build a scout until T70 thinking I was on an Island Plate map. Also, since I didn’t kill any barbs I held off on BW too long and couldn’t chop the rainforests in my capital while I had Magnus there (doh!)

    - Did you instigate any major wars? Were your neighbors peaceful?
One war early against Germany so I could capture their first settler which lasted T26-47. I started war with only a single warrior on the map. Germany chased me and started attacking my new city of Mumbai while also sending a force to my capital. I eliminated their split force with my superior defensive positions and offered peace; they refused, so I converged my forces (now 3x warriors, 3x slingers) on their capital, finally getting them to accept peace after I captured their capital, which I waited to do until they settled Berlin. Berlin rebelled once, but I captured it and gave it back to them. Otherwise no wars, very peaceful, friends with most.

    - Were City-States helpful?
Yes, with no scout, my CS find order was T10-Hong Kong, T49-Zanzibar, T50-Antioch, not finding the last one until T94. Don’t think I’ve ever taken that long to find CS’s. Zanzibar and Babylon were awesome.

    - Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?
Well, the map type for one! I didn’t adjust to the map type (Fractal, not Island Plate) as quickly as I should have. Basically, I never did a great job exploring, counting on my galleys and a couple warriors. While Germany ran into me on T4 and two AI found me on T34/37, I didn’t find Scythia until T46, and didn’t find the last AI until T93.

    - Did you enjoy the game?
It was awesome as always. Continued awesome job on GOTM.
After I got over being annoyed the map type was listed wrong, I dived in and enjoyed it more! I’d like to see more maps with no Tribal Villages and unknown map type.

    - Where did you settle your cities? How many cities did you settle or capture?
Sent my settler to the peppers after seeing a whole lot of not much else 2 tiles south with my warrior.

Like others I found Germany too enticing - particularly when their unescorted settler said hello to my warrior just outside Aachen. That settler founded Calcutta within wonder range.
Ended up taking Cologne as well then settling cities south of “Was-Germany” to fill in a few gaps. Think it was four or five faith bought and three or four hard built overall.

One Russian city flipped to me towards the end as well.

    - What did you prioritize for research, policies, and governance cards?
I went for Astrology early as I decided to push for a first religion (which I got). I was then going randomly towards ships until I realised they weren’t needed to meet everyone so switched to Printing. After Printing, I clicked on Computers and left it alone.

For Culture I went for theatres to political philosophy to temples to humanism to democracy with some minor detours along the way. After democracy I locked in social media and left it alone.

I ran the 100% faith card for most of the game as I picked up desert folklore. Was in Classical Republic for most of the game so +1 prod, charismatic leader and great writers were the main cards until tourism cards popped up.

    - What was your build order? / How soon did you build a District? Which ones did you prioritize?
For building, I went Holy Site almost straight away then builder, some slingers and warriors and a lot of praying until religion popped. After that was mainly theatres, infrastructure and then it was party time for most of the rest of the game.

    - Did you bother with religion?
I don't normally do religion with culture but wanted to try something new. Didn't really pay off. Religion was intended as a big culture booster but not convinced. The faith was useful. I’d hoped to meet Relic CS but didn’t. Only went two apostles - one for belief and one for inquisition when Tomyris converted me and a religious emergency was declared.

    - How was the lack of Barbarians?
Lack of barbarians was good and bad. Good to not have to worry about them but I like it when they run interference on the AI. Out of habit I ran the +5 vs barbs card at the start... (Not that I had a scout though).

    - Did you instigate any major wars? Were your neighbors peaceful?
In terms of war, I ate Germany and relaxed. Norway and Lizzie declared for whatever reason. Other than a few bites from a Norwegian caravel, it was a non-event. Possibly because I bribed all of the others to join in a joint war against them... :)

Lautaro DOW’d Russia dragging me in due to my economic alliance. Everyone wanted a piece of Lautaro and we didn’t square off.

Mongolia vanished at some point. He and Lautaro were at it all game until then.

    - Were City-States helpful?
CS’s came in at the end once I’d suz’d HK and Brussels. Had Mojo for a bit but Russia ate them. Had Babs for a bit as well but not a big impact.

    - Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?
The map. I thought I needed boats but found out that wasn't necessary to meet everyone so had to change the science around a bit. Should have stuck to the usual Printing Press bee-line. For a game with culture as the only win option, nobody really went for it? Lautaro seemed intent on domination (but badly). Tomyris seemed intent on religion. Nobody really had any works to trade.

    - Did you enjoy the game?
Mostly. Towards the end I was getting frustrated as I was popping great people left, right and centre but couldn't use them as slots were full and nobody had anything to trade. I knew early on I wasn't going to get a great time so the last 50 or so turns really seemed to grind on.

Peaceful, micromanaging Magnus with monumentality/harvest (until got tired of moving him and builders all around the map). Would have been faster with violence.

    Thanks for the game.

I took the strategu that military conquest is the fastest way to any VC. I think I hurt myself by eradicating some AI since their tourists disappear... but any time I beat t300 I consider it a good game.
t278/1814 culture win... and for the first time in an OTM, ranked as Augustus Ceasar with 2100+ points.:woohoo:

CV Turn 146. One of my fastest to date!

    - How many cities did you settle or capture?
Captured the 2 German cities, Jerusalem and Antioch. Otherwise was a very peaceful game for me.

    - What did you prioritize for research and policies?
    Theater Squares for Great Writers.

    - Did you bother with religion?
    Nope.

    - How did you pump your Culture?
    Great Works, obviously.

    - Did you instigate any major wars?
No. Was attached by Tomyris around turn 130, and fended her off, but without taking any cities in order to not increase war weariness.

    - Were City-States helpful?
Oh yes. I had jusst discovered Babylon. Crazy :crazyeye:

    - Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?
Biggest surprise was the map obviously, as the situation was much, much better than expected. This is one of the things I really like about Civ, as you never know what you're about to get (...yourself into).

    - Did you enjoy the game?
    Thoroughly.

T239CV. Germany declared on me early so I eliminated him quite easily. After that I tried to continue on the warpath and eliminate Mongolia, but I was able to capture only one city with relative ease so I settled for peace for the rest of the game. Surprising how challenging Mongolia was on this difficulty! I suspected it was a higher level, dunno if it can be checked somewhere. Pretty standard culture game with about 15 cities, almost all with TD full of GW. Quite a lot of wonders as well.
