Koreans is still uncertain, IMO. The Hwacha unit, which at first was assumed to be the Korean UU, could well be a unit from the feudal Japan unit pack. The others however, are 99% confirmed.

I dont think arabs should be a civ. unless they are considering it for the country arabia. but if they are just thinking of the turban wearing people in the mid east thats stupid because they live in egypt isreal tukey etc.

Perhaps you are not aware of all of the contributions that the Arabs made in world history, but they certainly deserve to be included as a civ in the game. These "turban wearing people" only preserved most of the great works of the ancient Greeks in science, mathematics, and philosophy, then went on to expand and add to that while Europe was in the most chaotic part of the Dark Ages. The Arabs only invented algebra, developed medicine that was centuries beyond that practiced anywhere else in the world, and ruled a prosperous empire that stretched from Spain to India. Don't forget that they created the world's largest religion (Islam) either. The decline of the Arabs was due as much to invasion by barbarians like the Turks and the Mongols in the period from 1000-1300AD as to internal decline. They have as good of a claim as any other civ to be in this game.

Also watch out what groups you lump together in one sentence. I'm no expert on this part of the world, but the people who live in Egypt (ethnic Arabs) are NOT the same people who live in Turkey (ethnic Turks) and definitely not the same people as the Jews who live in Israel.

in civ3 there is no middle eastern islamic culture represented... egypt is the one of the ancient world, same goes for the Babylonians...

I am happy to know that Civs will be included in the game that are from Islamic cultures... up until now there has never been one (except for the first released version of Civ 1 where they had Turks in it)...

your tellin me that their are gonna be celts, arabs, and carthaginians(which i've never even heard of); and they dont even add Isreal. where has the world gone. I have nothin agains those civilizations, but when they add them and dont add Isreal which is a more obvious civ to add, it just p!ss's me off.

Why is Israel a more obvious civ to add?

because israel is basically the oldest and longest lasting civilization in the world.

What UU would you think the Israelis deserve?

If and only if you listen to the Old Testament. Otherwise China, Greece and a number of others (including Babylon/Mesopotamia) have Israel beaten fair and square.

All actual historical evidence suggest that Jerusalem was only a city worth noting (and that's not even powerful) starting around 727BC, when it stopped being a tiny town built on a rocky ledge to become a somewhat noteworthy fortified city. And yes, for those keeping track, that would be in post-David time (which mean that David ruled over a city state caught between tremendous powers - Egypt, Babyone, Assyria).

And that newfound power didn't last long. 120 years after becoming worth noteing, the Babylonians noted it was there. Bye-bye Israel for a 50-years exile. After that, Israel dropped from playing any major role in politics until the Romans dropped by. Early in the first century, the Israeli rebelled, and there, another exile, 1900 years, give or take a few, that one.

From that death in the first century, Israel only rose again about fifty years ago. Since then it's been the regional power, definitely, but being a regional power is hardly a qualification for inclusion as a civ in Civ III.

Who, you say, are equally worthy? The Arab, who had an empire stretching from India to spain and preserved knowledge through the dark ages, improving on it?

Who, the Carthaginians, a great commercial empire which nearly defeated Rome at one point?

Who, the Celts, who stretched all over France, Germany and Britain?

Who, the Koreans, whose history go as far back as Israel, further even, but without a 1900 years interuption?

Who, the Vikings, who menaced the entire western world throughout the middle east and were the first european power to reach the coasts of America?

Who, the Mongols, whom in the space of one generation conquered one of the greatest land-born empire ever on earth, and who profoundly shaped the entire Eusaian landmass? The same mongol who took over China a few years later (eventually being assimilated in China, strangely enough)?

Who, the Ottomans, who ruled a vast empire from the late middle ages right until the end fo the first world war, leaving behind much of present day Istambul?

Who, the Spaniards, who created the first empire on which the sun always shined? The country which at the height of its power ranged in power from Mexico to the Philippines, passing by Spain and a thousand other colonies?

The Vikings and Celts may not deserve to be in, but they are more popular than Israel. The others all have Israel beat fair and square as for deserving to be in.

Why does this always turn into a "I think that this country should be added" or "I think this country should be added instead or this country" or "that country sucks, they never did anything to deserve to be added"?

The guy asked what countries where going to be added not what countries you think or don't think should be added. Let's stay on-topic and stop stinking up the conversations with complaints.

There were Turks on a Civ 1 version? Who they replaced? How can I find a copy of this version???

Cheers!

PS: Yes, the lack of an Islamic civ is HUGE.

I am looking forward to the Vikings! I hope the UU will be a longship like the Drakkar! It should have a defense value of 6 or something along those lines and can hold plenty of Vikings for the great raids they had in history.

Or the Knarr for a strong ship. Maybe Eric the Red should be the leader or one of the great leaders.

My Civ I manual has the Turks listed as a Civ and Suleyman as leader but I don't think my game actually had them in it. It's been quite some time since I played it though (not since Civ II came out).
