Today's "Okay then" story of the day...

Co. Pulls Toys Depicting 9-11 Attack
Fri Aug 27, 2:40 PM ET

MIAMI - Small toys showing an airplane flying into the World Trade Center were packed inside more than 14,000 bags of candy and sent to small groceries around the country before being recalled.

Lisy Corp., the wholesaler that distributed the candy, said Friday that the toys were purchased in bulk from a Miami-based import company.

The toys came in an assortment purchased sight unseen from L&M Import in Miami and included the toys depicting the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the twin towers, whistles and other small toys, said Luis Pedron, Lisy's national sales manager. The invoice said the toy was a plastic swing set.

"I hate to blame the importer. He probably did not know what he was getting. He brings them in 40-foot containers. But whoever made it knew exactly what they were making," Pedron said.

Pedron said Lisy did not notice the small plastic figurines until two people complained, but there is no mistaking what the toys represent: At the bottom of each is the product number 9011.

"When we found out what happened, we recalled them immediately," said Pedron, who said the toys do not reflect the company's view. "I was offended by them."

The company's 100 distributors sent out the candy bags. Most are sold to small Hispanic and Mexican groceries, Pedron said. He estimated about 90 percent of the bags have been collected.

Anna Rodriguez, who bought a bag of the candy for her grandson, said she was stunned when she saw the toy.

"It makes me angry," she told television station WFTV. "I was offended because I couldn't believe that someone would give something like that to a kid."

Pedron said he is saving the toys to return to the distributor.

A woman who answered the telephone at L&M and refused to give her name said Friday she did not know anything about the toy.

That is awful, sadistic even. Whoever made them will, more than likely, lose future contracts as a result of this stupidity.

In the words of General Patton, "Sons-a-<snip>". That is in horrible taste! Whoever the hell made those need to be locked away.
Moderator Action: Patton would ahve got a warning too ;) Language - warned.

Ah ha, comedy. Not terribly tasteful, but a good way to wind people up.

One wonders why the people who made these did so, though. It's unlikely to be a joke, since you usually try to avoid making jokes that'll get you beaten up, and it seems rather meek as gestures of support towards terrory types go. Perhaps the people who manufactured these things meant it as a rousing patriotic surprise, and merely forgot to etch "NEVER FORGET" on the back? You never know.

This is missing the most important question, however: Why does the tower on the right have a yellow Smartie stuck to it? We want answers.

Yeah, i just heard this too. They were saying it's suspected that the toys originated from a Chinese manufacturer. Potentially the Chinese government is trying to stir up Anti-American sentiment.

What toys don't originate from a Chinese manufacturer? :p

No, i mean like a Chinese company produced them, not an American company that has their stuff manufactured in China. Though judging by the smiley you probably know what i meant.

I'm just not getting it, why the hell don't those towers look like the twin towers, and why the hell is it purple? If they're trying to be offensive why don't hey do a halfway decent job?

To me not only were the pople who made this insensitive cold-hearted jerks but they were also extremely lazy or morons as well!

Part of their defence, Perfection, is that they didn;t try to replicate the Airplane Attacks.

I find this to be so horrible, and so funny at the same time.

Well, I'm just glad to see there are still are still people in the world with the balls to pull off something like this. ;) I consider it as being a mildly-funny prank, I find it odd that people take it seriously enough to be offended by it. :p
