Ok so Im getting a weee bit better. Im actually able to defeat the easiest level now on a regular basis...my post has a couple quick questions of the chieftan level.

1. I keep losing by conquest defeat...I set up a new town get one defender in there and someone declares war on me and attacks that new town kills my one calvary or whatever unit is in there and game over conquest defeat? I even turned this option off in the game set up and I still lose because of it...why?

2. When I am first starting off I am America and I try to create scouts to explore the map...by the first recap where they show the positions of the civilizations America is always last...seems they build A LOT faster than me...am I missing something here?

3. No matter how hard I try I leave my scientific level at 50% and inevitably I am ALWAYS culturally backwards compared to the other civs...what am I doing wrong?

Thanks for all your help in advance.

1. How...? I can't see how if you can lose a conquest loss, especially below Deity. And even, if you turn off conquest victory, you can't win if you die anyway. Are you expanding?

2. On higher levels the AIs do get a build bonus. I can't tell you anything else except not to pay attentioon to those.

3. Science has nothing to do with culture. Build temples, libraries, cathedrals, universities, etc.

Be more specific. I think that the main problem is that you don't understand some basic game mechanic.

#1 No idea.

#2 By "first recap," do you mean the little screen that will come up with "So-and-so's largest/weathiest/most advanced/happiest Civilizations in the world"? Wealthiest and happiest don't necessarily reflect on how well you are really doing in the game, and can pretty much be ignored. In terms of land area/population, you might just be a little smaller at first because you are (wisely) producing scouts while the AI produces a settler or two. You'll catch up. As for tech,

#3 Are you trading techs? You can, you should, you must! The AIs all will, and if you don't their combined research prowess will sink you.

Also, I'm thinking you should be able to get that tech slider over 50% in Chieftain. Like, to 70% or 80%. Or higher. At Chieftain, I believe you have a research advantage over the AI, so the higher you set your slider, the more you are exploiting that advantage. You shouldn't need much if anything put into luxuries, and really don't need much cash either, so you might as well just give your science advisor a blank check.

BTW I am not the world's most experienced player, so if anybody contradicts me, trust them not me. Still, I hope this helps.

1. Turn off elimination.

2. The AI does not have bonuses on Chieftain, you do. But, as micheal4000 said, if you're refering to the list of civs after 1000 years, don't worry about it, it's not important.

3. Tomoyo covered 3 quite well.
