Ok, I should probably know these things, but...

How do you form a locked alliance? I checked the option when starting a multiplayer game, but I guess I just don't know how to make it happen.

Second question is about trading. When you're talking to another leader, why don't all of the trade options come up? I mostly noticed that the option for trading gold isn't there. Do you need certain advances first in this version?

Thanks for the help!

hey there. im not quite sure about locked alliances early on, but i remember that later on in the game you can discover a technology that allows locked alliances.

Trading things confused me at first - there were so little options, but in time you learn technologies that allow you to trade everything.

Hope that helps

Answer to first question:

When you start a multiplayer game and you are in the screen which you set up your game you will see a number after each players name. If you set this number to the same number as another player you will have a locked allience with this player. You can also sign a locked alliance with a player while you are in the game.

Answer to first question:

Right you you start the game you can not trade anything at all.
Here is a list of some of the requirements needed to trade certian things:
Alphabet - Open borders
Writing - Technologies
Currency - Gold

The Custom Game choice in SP allows you to select teams for all AI and human controlled civs in that session. The manual states that this essentially makes all nations on the same team equate to a single nation with multiple leaders. Your locked alliances.
