I have completed successfully installing the sexy Civ4 on my PC but when I try to load up the game and when it reaches that part CHECK XML then the game suddently closes without clicking anything. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game and the problem persides...Any ideas? my 50...civ...:(

This is a badly written program and needs many fixes. I would not go through the trouble trying to fix your pc. Its the software. Fraxis has a bunch of dumb punks working there...or so called working? They all need to be taken out back and shot several times at point blank range. Then released into atmosphere. That'll teach them dumb jerks.

You are as smooth in the expression of diplomatic language as Admiral James T. Kirk !

You don't. You wait for the patch. You should've read up a bit on this game before spending your cash - and when I say read up on the game - I don't mean the lofty, golden reviews from the major review sites. I mean to check what the real people have to say about the game, the gamers, they are the best measure of how a game is performing.

Yeah I the review that made me want to buy this game was from Gamespot...Firaxis must had bribed all the reviewers to do so...

LOL........yeah, that review almost did it for me too. But experience has taught me to wait. I really don't understand all the glowing reviews. I know it is a good game, but if it doesn't work, it isn't all that good.

When I installed Civ the first time, it installed fine, and came up to the intro screen fine. Started a game... and it started to crater. Buggy graphics, that turned into a crash to BIOS. After that, the game wouldn't even load. Okay, so I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same thing - would not load. I had to:

Uninstall.
Delete all files it added, including some under my local profile.
Purge the registry.

I finally got it reloaded and can play (with the usual crappy graphics and performance bugs many have). But I was able to get it going again. Perhaps this will work for you...

Venger

My problem with this game is....That when at loading screen at the Check XML part the Box just closes and acts like it never was opened.

to the one asking:

If you have a 3D acceleration sound card, turning off hardware acceleration in the sound card setting may help. I had the same problem (DMX 6fire sound card) If I activated hardware acc the game quit right after the xml message.

Another thread says, you have to deactivate recording device in windows sound settings. Myself didn't know how to do this but I can play the game anyway.
