A different idea to promotions

I played a recent game with the TR mod on the earth map with China. Suddenly I had a promotion available and I was considering whether to go for the woodsman or the hills benefit one. This made me think it would be a good idea to have promotions based on tiles to upgrade automatically when a unit wins a battle on that terrain. Say after 3 (or a differnt number) of battles in the desert increases that units ability to fight in the desert. I think it would add an edge in combat with realistic specialised units. Also, it would give invasions a realistic feeling as the defending army shall have the upper hand as they are in thier terrain and so would probably have more experience fighting in it. Of course, you may all think this idea is awful. And it could be impossible to mod, I'm not sure as I can't mod, although the total realism team have done some pretty major and dramatic improvements to the game so far so I'd assume that it is possible. Any suggestions, ideas or feedback?

Not likelly.

Next Version comming 12th Surelly Not. 3 days of development and we must make a release :o Dont know if we will have out "special project" done for it.

1) It will weaken defenders. Vietnam for instance, Chinese knew how to fight in Jungles from begining. They were trained by promotion when units were made. So with your idea Vietnam would get conquered very easilly.

2) Lots of SDK/Python work.

3) Ballancing is differant issue

4) Do you know how many fighs one unit usully has ? Unless its high xp from start and/or higher era, it usually dies in 3rd or 4th fight.

5) Unit can fight 1 or 2 times a turn and need 3 or more turns of healing. (there are exeptions). This means that such promotions will come slowelly, meaning must be stronger.

6) once terrain combat promotion will come, a unit with this promo will also get a new lvl. This means 2 promotions at a Time. They must be well tought and ballanced.

Thats my point. Were a 6 man team and one (me) cannot throw away/accept projects.

Its quite a nice idea anyway. Maybe in later versions (but not the one comming 12th and rather not Next)
This post will remain here, and once we will have no projects on our head, we will surelly check this out back.

thanks. There would be quite a few issues with it that would need to be resolved. Didn't know the latest update was coming on the 12th. Thats the day before my birthday, thanks for the birthday present, :)
