A direct word to Atari/Firaxis on the Byzantine empire

But its not a good choice- it just dosnet do justice to major LAND power of the middle ages! even the vikings have a land UU, and they were the masters of the waves!

so is claiming the the Hoplite, war elephant, numidian merc., mounted warrior,Legionary (yes, they were copied by other empires...), and most other UUs... they were all copied by other empires, but the nations who used them best are who get to have them as a UU

the hoplite--used by 1/2 the world after alexanders empire fell

the war elephant--used by persia,india,carthage,greece

numidian merenary--just that a merc,used by all

many uu's had several users-thus not so unique:(

Thats the Old Pilum the classic Roman Pilum (Where the spear tip bends) was invented around 100 BC by Romans (Gauis Marius)

What this thread will accomplish is only help me get my posts closer to 1,000. If you know what I mean...

Well, anyway, Xen, do you have ANY IDEA of how many horse UUs we have so far?!? :ack:
There HAS to be some kind of balance in the game. So far it is both balanced and historically accurate. ;)

the old pilum was the basis for the new pilum... but please, start a new thread for that topic, that is all i ask!

the only way for it to be historically accurate to have HUGE amounts of MOUNTED UU's in the middle ages- its just how things were!

no we dont, we have-

-conquistador
-the arab dude
-the hunnic guy
-that chinese dude

to even begin to represent the middle ages far more mounted UUs should be added to represent the true varaity of forces and tactics found in the era

As things stand we currently have Unique units and General units

I propose a 3rd option Semi Unique units.

For example lets say we make a Crusader unit

The Crusader would be avaliable to English, French and Germans (mayube a few others) but it would not be buildable by the Arab or the Japanse.

In effect you create a Semi Unique unit.

eg Xens beloved Cataphracts would only be able to be built by Byzantine and the Persian

no, dont turn this thread into some srgument for more UUs', this thread is here to justify the re-making of the Byzantine UU from the dromaon, a crap dingy UU if there ever was one, into the mighty and all cool Cataphract!

actually xen, the dromaon with greek fire could be a good uu, the problem is that naval warfare in civ 3 bites the big one ,thus making a uu into just another unit ala the man of war. if they want naval uu's, improve the naval system!!

@ Civrules-

hunninc dude means mongol man,

and the Ottoman dude, and the russian guy arent in the medieval ages- they represent power in the age of imperialism!

well that case im going to have to disagree

The Dromaon is a more UNIQUE unit for Byzantine than the Cataphract. Cataphracts do not qualify as being UNIQUE to Byzantine

Theres no need to change it

bu tit isnt fun- who here can honestlly tell me they enjoy the naval system in civ3- few if any, that who, it also dosent do justice to the Byuzantine milatray, the best force on earth in there time- they even replelled those smelly central asian barbs people seem to go on, and on about ;)- the cataphract, as made UNIQUE for its ability to be both shock, support, and skirmishing troops is a great one, and those modifacatrions make the Byzantine cataphract trully unique! far more then mounted lancer I'm sure you hade envisioned...
