One of my games I will always remember is one of my first games (exactly: the 2nd) in deity mode. I was Alexander of Greece. My people settled on a big peninsula. My direct neighbours were the French and the Americans. I didn't manage to make them allies, so a 4000 years long war began. On the other side of that continent there was a big civ, too: the mongols - so the fate of France and America was clear.
Separated by a small channel, there were the Zulus. So the game promised a lot of "fun". There were some other nations, too, for example the Romans and the Egyptians. During the Game the Egyptian Empire was split into two Empires: the Persian and the Egyptian (the first and only time I saw this in a real game).
The Zulus managed to nuke one of my biggest cities, but my revenge was cruel: I nuked 4 or 5 of their cities (using spies), including their capital Zimbabwe. I also nuked Paris and some mongol cities. I won the space race, building the fastest spaceship (all structurals) by selling factories and other city improvements, one year before the mongol spaceship could land.

sounds like the screwed up post-modern lord of the rings story-("Frodo! quick! throw the Uranium Ring of Power into Mt. Reactor! *gets stabbed by a craved Fanatic, then ship explodes*)or something like that. kept you on the edge of your seat, i'd guess.
