A Higher Calling - LHAC

Purchased All By Myself I'm a Crowd

I would like to run a mission today if it's at all possible. I'll be available to start any time in the next hour or two if we want to run a morning mission(which would be slightly more convenient for me) or I might be able to do one at the standard evening time.

If people are in chat and ready but I'm not there, send me a Steam or a PM.

Summary - S1E7 "Shade"

The team met to discuss what was recovered from the Guiding Light, in the early evening out in town. Valkyrie revealed that the Torchbearer project appeared to be a poor attempt to build a suit similar to hers for the Guiding Light's forces, whereas Delilah was the one to explain that the Psychic Dominator was a device designed to amplify mental powers over a large radius for the purposes of exerting psychic control over a large swathe of territory. Valkyrie also confirmed that the Guiding Light was very definitely down for the count, although Rogue had disappeared. As the team debated why the Van Bredases would build the Psychic Dominator, a pulse of red light and thunder alerted them to a new situation brewing...this time at St. Ravus Church.

Upon arrival, the team found a river of blood pouring down the stairs from inside, and cautiously entered to see the corpse of a young woman, and a man in the process of what appeared to be sacrificing the other, who was hovering before the altar, arms spread and bleeding. For a moment, the man waxed poetic about the church's origins and God, before revealing his name to be Shade and implying he served the Grey Witch - an implication which became something more concrete than that when a wave of dark ghosts burst from the floor and assailed the team with a host of flashy abilities.

Shade nearly killed Sir Lancelot and Lady Vesta both before he was overcome by a combination of their psychic and chain-slinging powers, and Delilah was able to rescue the hostage, Kirsten Marriot from school, during the chaos. Tesla wreaked havoc on the ghostly forces with arc lightning, proving his ill luck early in the season was merely him trying to find his stride, and Big Fun entered Pie a la Mode and proceeded to beat the holy living daylights out of a group of Dark Ghost Warriors. At the end, while the team congregated to ensure Kirsten's health, Lancelot spotted the same fashionably-dressed(for the Victorian era) woman tinted in grey as he did in S1E2 in the parking lot, who approached Shade's unconscious form without hesitation over Lancelot's warnings, and made him disappear in a flash of light.

To no one's great surprise, she turned out to be the Grey Witch herself, who had a relatively pleasant if charged conversation with Lancelot before turning and departing, thanking him for providing for Vaneer's death, as that allowed her to concentrate her efforts on Daleburg instead of the Guiding Light. She warned Justin that they would meet again, and soon, and implied Elizabeth had lied to him.

I am retroactively stating you gain 2HP from each completed non-RP mission. That means that as of right now, everyone jumps up by 14HP. New HP totals are listed with the XP.

Delilah Dahlio/Flicker: 900XP(42HP)
Justin Sobieski/Sir Lancelot: 900XP(60HP)
Tory Lynn Piper/Lady Vesta: 900XP(45HP)
Samuel Monroe/Tesla: 900XP(43HP)
Joris Jonckheer/Big Fun: 900XP(70HP/79HP PalM)

Make sure to either post an update in-thread or let me know if you make any XP purchases. If you let me know via Steam/chat, make sure I add them to the sheet then and there, because odds are I will forget if I don't get on with it. I will provide full XP for a single missed mission, though I will not do so for the second missed one in a row.

Next mission, S1E8 "Mind Games" is most likely going to run Wednesday at the usual time. However, I might be able to do it Sunday night, so check in around 5ish EST if you can. I am not attached to that timeslot, and I am unlikely to run a mission over the weekend, but if I do, that's when I will(MAAAYBE Saturday but it would have to work out almost perfectly so I'll play that one by ear).

Summary - S1E8 "Mind Games"

The team met up in town of a night, only to be interrupted by Shadow, fleeing from Longbow. Shadow claimed the team were exactly who he wanted to see, and he offered his services in helping them find out what the Van Bredases built the Psychic Dominator for and in deleting its schematics from their mainframe. After some discord and death threats from Longbow, the team accepted Shadow's offer.

The raid went smoothly at first, with Flicker and Shadow dismantling a series of traps and security devices using their various talents. Upon entry to the Van Bredas Twins' office, the team came face to face with the villains themselves, who dispassionately explained, in quick succession, that they had intended the Psychic Dominator to amplify Queen Hyperion's abilities so they could use her for their own ends(the elimination of superpowered individuals), that they believed they were protecting the city from "Her" whom they would or could not identify further, and that Lord Enki had spoken to them on Her behalf not long ago.

That's when Shade appeared, at the head of a pack of Hellhounds and a Hellcat, determined to eliminate the Van Bredases for reasons unknown. The team fought him, only for Van Bredas Security forces to appear midway through the engagement and turn it into a three-way free-for-all. Despite some hiccups including Flicker being knocked out and Longbow utilizing lethal force against the security guards, all went well.

Until Shadow departed with the plans for the Psychic Dominator, leaving behind a note that claimed he was sorry but he was in deep with the wrong people and it was their price for his life. He did at least delete the schematics from the server, so for the moment, Shadow's copy of the data is the last remaining one. It remains to be seen if the team can track him down and destroy it before he completes his deal.

Delilah Dahlio/Flicker: 900XP(2200XP Total)
Justin Sobieski/Sir Lancelot: 900XP(2200XP Total)

Samuel Monroe/Tesla: 900XP(2200XP Total)

Our next mission, S1E9 "Friends" will be an RP, likely out-of-costume, just to set the stage for S1E10 "The Grey Witch", which will be our season finale, with E11 and E12 wrapping up remaining loose ends before we launch into Season Two. I have no plot agenda so it will be purely an RP.

I would really, really like to run it either tonight or Friday night, depending on what people can do. I will plan on Friday at 6PM EST, but if I have 3/5 players at 6EST tonight(and at least some chance at least one more showing), I might very well just get it out of the way now. I do not consider that very likely, but I'll check in around that time unless I'm informed that it can't work.

Took Super Speed & the half-feat version of More Chins than Chinatown.

Summary - S1E9 "Friends"

Bindi and Brandi invited all team members they knew of(plus Justin) to gather together, get ice cream, and go bowling. Over the course of the evening, friendships were forged, bowling games were won, Justin and Delilah locked themselves in the women's bathroom for a while, and Sam asked Brandi to examine his device. You read that right - Sam spent time with a woman other than Tory.

The first major thing to occur was Kirsten Marriot appearing at the ice cream shop, looking a little worse for wear but her spirit unbroken after being nearly killed in Shade's little ritual in S1E7. She vocally supported the "super-freaks" in town, which makes her unusual in a city that has historically had such enmity for the unusual - a fact driven home when Justin confronted Elizabeth about the Grey Witch, and discovered that the Witch's children were empowered and murdered for it 200 years ago, and she's been consumed by rage ever since. Justin also figured out that Elizabeth is the Grey Witch's mother, thus explaining how they know each other.

At the end of the night, the team departed to resume studying for finals, hopefully more united than ever before.

You'll need to be.

Delilah Dahlio/Flicker: 350XP
Justin Sobieski/Sir Lancelot: 350XP
Tory Lynn Piper/Lady Vesta: 350XP
Samuel Monroe/Tesla: 350XP
Joris Jonckheer/Big Fun: 350XP

S1E10 "The Grey Witch" will take place Wednesday at the usual time. It will be a very difficult mission, with a lot going on, so bring your A game. Those of you who haven't spent your XP(Celt and Lec) - I HIGHLY recommend doing so as soon as possible.

Purchased Beyond Human with the hit chance boost.

Summary - S1E10 "The Grey Witch"

The mission began on a Sunday morning after finals concluded, with a gathering of all the PCs at Justin/Joris/Bindi/Brandi's place. What started as a nice party with pizza, drinks and cupcakes was interrupted by the arrival of Boris Hazmut, who turned out to be Shade, and brought the Grey Witch and two Hellcats along with him, revealing that she knew the identities of the heroes the entire time. There was a fight, which was brief if vicious, in which the team completely kicked butt.

Until Bindi threw herself between the Grey Witch and Delilah to absorb a 20 v 1 total success.

The Witch took Elizabeth and departed, and it was up to the team to rally themselves and go after her, despite Bindi's death. Shadow, Longbow and Blades all showed up to help, engaging ghostly forces to help clear a path for the PCs to chase the Grey Witch to St. Ravus church, where she was starting to unleash a swarm of ghosts on the city. There, the Witch revealed a disturbing truth: she was Elizabeth, in some form or fashion that no one asked for an explanation about.

The fight in the church was also not long, and it saw Shade defeated along with a pack of Hellhounds and a Hellcat. The Grey Witch herself lasted the longest of any single enemy, but she eventually succumbed as well, and after a short exchange, Lancelot struck her down and caused her to disappear from the world, though the now-free Elizabeth confirmed she will return sooner or later, as until she claims a mortal form and attempts to bridge worlds in truth, she cannot be permanently destroyed.

At the end, Brandi wept for her sister, and though the city was saved, no one seemed joyful.

As I said in chat, I would not be opposed to running an impromptu mission this weekend, but Sunday and Friday are the only days that work for me. I will not plan on doing any such thing, but I'll check in just in case. We'll plan on S1E11 being run next Wednesday at the usual time, and then probably a weekend RP to wrap Season One.

Summary - S1E11 "The Peacekeepers"

The team attended Bindi's funeral and had some quality time by her grave, contemplating her death and the reasons for it, and coming to terms with what it means to be a superhero and each member, in their own way, questioning whether they have anything to offer as team members, friends, fighters...anything. After a little while, Tory received a phone call from Miles, asking her to bring the team to meet with him because something big had come up that he wanted their help with.

Upon arrival, the team found that said big thing was a meeting with a person Miles apparently works for/with in a group called the Peacekeepers. This individual, identified as Sergeant Russia(and later also as Vaneer's shooter), claimed to represent the group, though she was not its leader, and confirmed that Lord Enki and Ice Queen were both members, as was the young man Cherno who arrived with her. The Peacekeepers, she claimed, were a union of empowered individuals set on making the world a better place, and they wanted to offer the team membership. All seemed well. Until, of course, they showed their price: in order to join, the team would have to kill Shadow.

The team refused. Sarge insisted. That's when the fight started. It was brief and brutal, like most fights the team's been in, and at the end, the Peacekeepers withdrew and allowed the team to take Shadow, warning them that they'd be back, with their leader, the mysterious "Emerald Knight" in tow.

Our next mission will be at the usual time Wednesday, and it will be an RP mission to wrap up Season One's last loose ends and set up for Season Two. However, I am not certain I will run Season Two at this time. I believe I probably will just keep going, but I don't know for sure, as I do have other AC ideas that I think might be more fun than continuing HC. We'll see. At a minimum, we'll wrap S1 and reach a natural break point, though.

This AC is officially on hold until I finish writing my current novel. ETA on that is two weeks. Whether we resume afterward or start something else is open to debate, but at this moment I am inclined to start something else. LMK your preferences and I will cheerfully listen or cheerfully ignore them as suits me :p
