[This game is on Monarch difficulty with the Hittites. The map is Standard, Continents, Wet, Warm, and 4 billion years of age.]
(Yes, I am crazy. The Hittites really suck. I figure I'll give them at least one game, and then never use them again.)
4000BC- I lead the tribe of Hittites. My people grow tired of
wandering, and decide to settle down where we are. I insist that
we search for better lands with more water, but they don't
listen. I at least convince them that a location on the nearby sea
would be better. Meanwhile, some of my clan still wander and
explore the land. In the mountains to the north, they met a small
wandering tribe much like ours used to be. This tribe showed the
explorers how to properly bury the dead in order to please the
gods. How nice of them.
3950- After 50 years, the village of Hattusas is founded. I'm not
pleased with where we settled, but at least the forests are full of
game so that we need not fear starvation. I then set up a
science program so that we may eventually know the secrets of
Bronze. Meanwhile in the northwest, the explorers tell me of two
interesting things. First, they have found herds of great beasts
called Elephants which have tusks of Ivory. Ivory is supposed to
be some sort of luxury, so if we can get some, it might make the
people happy. Secondly, there are rumors of another settled
town like our own. Who could it be?
3900- The rumors were true after all. There are people in the
northwest who call themselves 'Americans.' Intrigued by this
new clan, I personally meet with an American emissary who
offers me the knowledge of Masonry and 4 of their shiny coins in
exchange for knowledge of our system of letters. Sounds like a good deal to me, so I accept.
3750- Things have been quiet and peaceful for a while. I grow
curious about the surrounding lands, wondering if we could find
other clans like the Americans. Another group of explorers is sent
out for this purpose.
3700- The new explorers head East and encounter a small tribe
much like the one that gave us Ceremonial Burial so long ago.
These people decide they would like to live under my rule! What
a great surprise! The Hittite clan now has a second city, called
Tarsus. I receive some bad news, though. The area around
Hattusas and Tarsus has no fresh water! How will my people
survive without water?
3650- Further in the west, the explorers spot a city over some
hills. They thought it was another American town, but apparently it's a completely new nation called Sumer.
I am rather displeased to find out that these Sumerians already know the secrets of
Bronze when my scientists have fruitlessly toiled for many years
trying to unravel its mysteries. I offer them the knowledge of
Masonry if they'll teach us the workings of Bronze and give us
some of their shiny coins too. Thankfully they take the offer. My
scientists now change their efforts and instead focus on
developing The Wheel. The tell me they can build a great weapon with that knowledge. We'll see.
3500- Another new clan is discovered by the explorers. A warrior
clad in orange approached them from the mysterious northern
frontier. It comes from the tribe of England. I meet with some
English emmisaries, but they claim to have no knowledge that we don't already know. A pity.
I immediately dismiss the English as a worthless clan.
3350- I meet with American emissaries again. They claim to have
much new knowledge, including The Wheel! Selfishly, they refuse to trade any of it to us.
3050- America still won't trade with us, but the Sumerians are
perfectly happy to tell us how to train archers with the Warrior
Code in exchange for our system of letters.
2900- The scientists at last discover how to make The Wheel.
Sadly, there are no horses nearby that would allow us to build
the weapon they call the Chariot. I order the scientists to now
try to unravel the secrets of Iron.
2750- The explorers find wild horses to the north, beyond America. They're sadly too far to bring back to Hattusas. My
military advisors claims we might be able to reach them if we just
got America out of the way. I must consider this advice.
2630- The explorers discover a small tribe in a swamp far to the
West. Amazingly, they give us the knowledge that America kept
from us!
2310- Those nasty Americans once again have knowledge they
refuse to trade. I offer them many of our shiny coins for it, but
they refuse. Then the emissaries demand that I just give them
the money instead! Of course I refused. So then the Americans
declared war against us. How dare they!
About the same time, some of our settlers built a new city called
Ugarit right next to the American capital near the Elephant herds. I fear the city may not survive long.
2150- We discover Iron Working for ourselves. We have no iron,
unfortunately. The Americans so far have sent no troops against
us, but scouts report there are many warriors moving around to the north of Hattusas.
I dispatch some spearmen to hopefully
destroy those warriors before they can attack my cities.
2070- The spearmen do not move fast enough, and many
American warriors attack Ugarit. One of our warriors dies, but
another one successfully fends off the remaining attackers.
Desperately, my troops counter-attack and manage to kill a group of warriors, but in the process our spearmen were also killed.
1950- Now the English come demanding money from us! I submit however, because a second war would cost us more than the pennies they demand from us.
1910- And now Sumeria makes demands! This is ridiculous! I
must submit, however. I swear that these evil clans will be
punished in the future!
1870- American warriors attack Ugarit again, but my warriors are
victorious! Meanwhile a new city called Harran is founded in the mountains north of Tarsus.
In the mountains they discover an underwater spring that will give us fresh water at last!
1725- All of the explorers return home to Hattusas with a look of
sadness. Apparently they have explored all that there is to find
on this continent. Instead, they start making plans to find more lands beyond the great sea.
At this moment, Hittite Archers and Warriors are attacking
America. Their cities are too well defended with Spearmen, so my
troops instead tear up the American roads and irrigated fields.
This will teach them to demand things from me!
1575- Boldly, my archers attack the American capital and are
victorious in battle! Unfortunately, the city has too many
spearmen and my troops are forced to retreat anyway. Tired of
fighting, I offer peace to the Americans. With my troops at their capital, they are quite willing to pay us for a treaty! Excellent.
The known world at the end of the war:
Notes: I don't like the Hittites at all. They're my least favorite of
the new civs. I suspect many others don't like the Hittites either,
so maybe they can experience this new civ through my eyes
instead of having to use the Hittites themselves.
Just my luck that I'd start next to another Expansionist civ.
America jumped way ahead in tech by popping huts before I
could. Having no fresh water has made expansion very difficult. I
also lack both Horses and Iron, so wars are quite difficult.
America has Iron, though, so I'll try to destroy them with Archers
later. I may also try to build the Statue of Zeus and use Ancient Cavlry. Sadly, the English have taken the only source of Horses
nearby, so I may not ever get to use the Hittite UU.
Dunno if I should keep going the way I am or try to make this more like a story.
