A new Modder's Guide to v38's C2C Combat Mod - Outbreaks and Afflictions

DH posted in another thread, though is now pertinent to this one:

Suggestion - Traditions for Health Care units

Tradition - Cleanliness is next to Godliness

Requires any State Religion

Obsolete with Smart Drugs ( or replaced by Tradition - Germ Theory of Disease)

Built by Great Priest or Great Scientist

Effects
- free promotion to all Health Care Units +5% disease control
- +1 health in city
- reduced chance of contact diseases
- no effect on air borne diseases
- +10% chance of Cholera and other water borne diseases in cities with population 15+; negated with Soap
Should be necessary for Butter and Ghee buildings.

Tradition - Early Contagion theory (divine retribution to miasma)

Requires Plague Medicine

Obsolete with Smart Drugs ( or replaced by Tradition - Germ Theory of Disease)

Built by Great Priest or Great Scientist or Great General

Effects
- free promotion to all Health Care Units +5% disease control
- +1 health in city
- allows quarantine in plague/epidemic situations

Tradition - Germ Theory of Disease

Requires tech Statistics and a Mathematics Academy building in the city

Replaces Tradition - Cleanliness is next to Godliness and Tradition - Early Contagion theory (divine retribution to miasma)

Built by Great Scientist or John Snow event

Effects
- free promotion to all Health Care units +15% disease control
- +1 health in city
- disease outbreaks reduced by at least one level

Event - John Snow

Requires Statistics, Cholera outbreak and Mathematics Academy building in the city. Tradition - Germ Theory of Disease (Effect) must not be present.

Effect Builds Tradition - Germ Theory of Disease
Technology - Statistics

Requires: Education and Banking

Free building for all who get tech (pseudo national wonder) Statistics gives free Statistics Effect -10% maintenance

I think it possible to do a lot more with quarantine but that is out of scope for this.

I'll have to take the care and time it took to generate this well detailed response to look it over and come up with appropriate feedback.

Well... that should all be possible but some of it IS more complex than other things.

Disease control would mean -5 Disease Property Manipulator right?

Reduced chance of contacting diseases... we might have to reduce the chance on each specific disease this would apply to. Defining diseases as airborne or not would be an interesting trick. I'll have to think out how that needs to be done but it might not NEED to be because we can affect diseases specifically.

The Cholera effect would probably have to be from an autobuilding requiring this tradition and the population and another building with the same prereqs would need to replace it as an autobuilding if you also have access to soap.

I kinda get why necessary for Butter and Ghee but I think I'd suggest to restrict only Ghee, as that's the higher refined form of Butter and in all honesty, ladies on the prairie were making butter with minimal concern for that much cleanliness. Plus, Butter is just too basic and fundamental, I think, to require such an optional tradition. Ghee, however, has been needing something that limits it to only those cultures who go to some kind of an extreme, as it's not commonly used worldwide (mostly is in the holy lands though so again, this is a good fit as a prereq for it.)

We'll have to discuss how to address full quarantines. I'm all for this concept.

- disease outbreaks reduced by at least one level
Given that disease outbreaks have to grow and shrink, reduced by a level may not work. However, there's other ways to make this powerful. Reducing communicability of all diseases, increasing the recovery likelihood. And so on. From wanting to reduce the outbreak level by one, it sounds like you'd want more to increase the recovery likelihood, which would make it more likely that the levels would not continue to grow each round and more likely to overcome the level that the city is at instead.

I don't think we have Butter in game anyway but it does require a level of cleanliness higher than was general in the 12-15th centry.

Updated Modders Documentation plus here is a slightly updated version of my post. Just includes the Great Doctor.

Not all that much but we did have some discussions that laid some additional groundwork for concepts. I'm currently implementing a traits plan that's been in the works for 4+ years. This is coming soon but it's still going to take a bit of planning and working through things. Definitely a lot of coding has gone into this project though.
