I just did a game and won by a spaceship victory in the year 1690. Does anyone did better? I don't mean to be show off, I just wanted to know if it was execptionnal or if it is commun to see such a thing...

I just won one by spaceship in 1920 (Monarch/huge/Iroquois). 1690 impresses ME, at least. What were the game parameters and what was your score?

I just checked in the hall of fame and I had one in Emperor with 3101 points and one in Regent with 2916 ponts. Unfortunately the age doesn't show, but both were for shure before 1900 and I think the Emperor one has been around 1790 or so...
But 1690, wow!:goodjob:

Hey
Just finished my emperor game on standart, continents, normal, roaming.
My spaceship went off in 1620 *proud*
I guess I was lucky in a way since all 8 civ's survived (only the germans dropped out around 1580, I hope they'll do the same in the championships),
so research was cheaper for my brave babylonians.

My best space ship win is 1725 on Emperor/standard everything, with the Egyptians. I'll try the Babylonians, my previous record holder, again soon.

1620 is amazing. How many cities did you have? When did you switch to republic or democracy? And did you find the find the science wonders meaningfully useful?

@ Txurce
I didn't do any records, but I did Monarchy and the Democracy as soon as possible.
My biggest cities were producing (corruption subtracted) 70, 54, 42, 35,34,34 and 31 shields, these were the cities where I produced the spaceship. Totally I had 20, of which 7 were new cities in former german teritorry that were producing allmost nothing but luxury goods.
Actually, I've been far behind the AI in the techrace for a long time, so I didn't build any wonders except the colossus :-(
I've been lucky that a world war startet soon after spaceflight was discovered by the AI, giving me some time for building the spaceship.

Right after this mail I'll start a new game, I think I should beat my record... (and I'll keep records of my activities :-)

Shogoth, I usually miss most wonders as well, and tend to have empires the same size as yours (or a little bigger) when going for space. It's always a help when all of the civs are around to further accelerate the research rate, since it's rarely slower than when the human is leading it. That said, the only way I can see myself knocking a century off my own mark is by getting a faster start. My last two games have been domination ones, but I reached the middle ages by 270 BC in one of them, thanks to an aggressive starting strategy: four cities with barracks, and off to engage in serial war, stopping each quickly enough to pick up tech and not totally wipe out the civ. If I can get off to as good a start in a space-race game, I might have a chance.

Hi Txurce

We have wonderfully warm evenings right now, so it took me some time to make a new game :-)

Had the same settings as the 1620 spacerace. Did verry well in comparison to the other game, but just managed to get off into space at 1700 :-(
Had the Colossus, GL, Copernicus Obs and smiths trading comp.

I just couldn't research fast enough, production was no problem at all.

I really think it's the AI tech research that made my early start possible since in my 1620 game it was faster than me.
Perhaps I should try huge map all civs? Or an agressiv strategy as you did?

by the way, Monarchy was introduced 90 bc followed by democracy in 750....

I haven't played a space-race game in a while, but on Emperor, the fast start means you can extort techs sooner... and if you're on a continent with several other civs, then the cross-pollination could get you out of the ancient era and on your way to space in record time.

The new strategy worked: Start 1540.
Had Emperor, Huge, Pangäa, roaming & rest standart.

Listened to you and played a little bit more agressive this time, got a second territorry with 6 Cities with full production.
Monarchy in 800bc, democracy in 540ad and I hit the middle ages before 350 bc since I started the sixtinian chapel at this timepoint.

Unfortunatelly I've only the 4000bc and 1535 as saves. 1535 is one year before the spaceshiph went off.
With that many civs tech research was fast, and a few years after the GL I've been in the middle ages.
Of course I never managed to get ahead of the AI in research, not even in the Democracy tree which is often ignored by the AI.
I've attached the 1535 save, you can see by the chinese city names which territory I've conquerred. The forbidden palace is also located there, of course.

Edit: Uploaded the file but I can't find it in the list???
