I've never seen them get disbanded either. That's why we call them disappearing units

Just a thought...

If you have the animation turned off, would the units that were disbanded by the AI appear to disappear?

They disappear even with animations on.

EDIT: I should add that the animation doesn't play for what seems like the units disbanded for lack of funds. The animation does play for units the ai purposely disbands during its turn except captured workers. This is the impression i have always had.

Might the sight of a unit being disbanded (dying animation) or disappearing be related to the AI's position in the turn order?
