A (Sort Of) Combat Improvement: Let Me Set Waypoints!

When at war (or preparing), I find my biggest problem is just the act of getting my army from point A to point B. I can never figure out which unit is going where, and I'll often tell multiple units to go to the same tile without realizing it. This obviously causes pathfinding problems for the AI, and the end result is that I'm never really sure where each unit is going to wind up. So once my units are all massed at the border, I have to then spend several more turns getting each unit in the right position. This ruins any hope of a surprise attack, but more importantly it's just frustrating and tedious as all get out.

So my proposal: Let me set visible waypoints, so that I can know which tiles I'm already sending a unit to. I don't need anything complicated, just a nice little marker to help my bad memory. Please?

It's a good idea, [large] army management is a headache.

But it's even more complicated than that. The real pain is when you know exactly where each one should go and do not send multiple units to the same tile, but then one of them, heading to its tile, ends the turn in a tile another one is going, so the later loses its goal and you have to issue a new order. It's pretty hard to be neat and practical this way...

On the same topic, I'd like to be able to set rally points for military units. It'd make life so much easier...

I've complained about this very thing several time in the past. I wish that a unit moving to a certain tile won't have it's pathing cancelled unless there is another unit in that tile the turn before it is set to arrive. That way, if I send a unit all the way across the continent and another unit step into that spot when he's halfway there, I won't have to rack my brain trying to remember where I wanted it to go. On a side note, having ADD makes this game an even greater challenge

What I really find missing from Civ IV is that after I set a destination, I can't see the planned route at all after that. When I click on a unit then I would like to see where it is going. I often just cancel and re-route.

But to route using waypoints and have an option to 'view all' units waypoints would be awesome. A lot of clutter if always turned on, but could be excellent when you are moving units to a front.

Yes, my dream would be a "Show Waypoints and Paths" button right next to the "Show Hex Grid" button by the minimap. So I could turn it on when needed, but avoid clutter when it's not necessary. Because I agree with everyone else, it's pretty annoying to not know where I'm sending someone after I tell them where to go.
