Prince
I am currently playing achievements on CIV V. I am a casual player so I usually don't jack with the difficultly setting usually playing at warlord level. But on to my empires I looked at Steam and realized I was missing tons of achievements so I started 3 different games.
Settler Game Random Civ, Large Map, Continents, Epic Time.
Rolled Elizibeth on the same continent as Askia, Ghandi and Suleiman
Chieftain Game Random Civ, standard map, Continents, Quick Time
Rolled Suleiman on the same continent as Siam, Aztec and Americans.
Decided to play a 1 city game and roll a Cultural Victory.
Warlord Game Random Civ, standard map, Continents, quick time.
Rolled Ghandi with Elizibeth to the North-West, Ganghis Khan to the North and Oda to the east of me. Was forced to lay 3 cities out in a North-South line.
Settler Game was a simple Beat em up drag em through the blood and sweaty battlefield until I was able to build the Space ship and win the science victory. This was a very easy game of building my forces walking from country to country. In the end I nuked Russia and did DOW leaving her with 3 cities when I ended the game.
Chieftain Game as Suleiman I started on the edge of the coast. Noting how strong I saw my starting position was I then Decided to stay with one city. As I began to explore I realized that my position was not as strong as I had thought. My Coast was actually a small inland sea. I quickly found Siam to the East-North east of me looking all pretty expanding to 2 cities already. As I rounded my inland sea I found a couple CS to keep Siam expansion to the north at a minimum. As I searched south I found the Aztecs who Had also expanded to 3 cities. Back home in my single city since I didn't need to worry about settlers I was building wonders. As I traveled through the Aztec lands, yes I traded open borders instead of selling it, I met the American who were already beginning to lag behind in the city race. By that time I had research astronomy and I was sending archers to search the wide world. Since there was only 2 Large continent and 1 large island I quickly met Catherine to the south, Hiawatha to the north, Ramesses to the east, Oda to the west, Ghandi stuck in the middle, and Harun on the large island to the west of Oda. As I was progressing through the Middle and Renaissance Ages Siam Kept asking me to destroy the Evil Aztecs. Hiawatha, Oda, Ramesses, Ghandi, and Harun kept asking me to destroy each other. In each case I respectfully declined since I wanted to keep myself out of war and not expose my weak military. As we are getting to industrial and modern ages the Aztecs were gobbled by Siam, Ghandi by everyone else and Huran is being slowly beaten back to his island. Siam is also becoming much more hostile to me. On my home front I quickly realize I am lacking in modern resources. Aluminum is no where near me. Oil just to the south a barely picked up but is way outside of the 3 hex city border. And Uranium I had to use a GA and use a culture bomb to the north and steal it from a CS. I know I could have bribed them but I was short on funds and they were not using it anyways. The culture bomb really pissed off Siam. I had to triple the size of my Army and Navy just to keep him from a DOW. In the end Siam controlled 80-90% of the Western continent sharing it with me and the Americans. The East Continent was shared fairly equally. Poor Harun was pushed back into the sea. Occupying his little island. If I had no finished the Utopia project I doubt he would have lasted long. I also I doubt I would have been able to maintain my warless state. Siam was getting anxious.
My Warlord game was actually a bit harder since I had aggressive AIs around me from the beginning. I limited myself to the 3 cities I build in a line. Elizabeth quickly denounced me for building the 3rd one and build a tiny city to block my trade route. Since I was able to use Singapore, who was landlocked, as a walk around she decided that I needed to be removed from the map. I guess England didn't like Ghandi for some reason. I wonder why? She attacked me with no provocation. I was able to quickly dispatch her spearmen and archers with swordmen and knights. Using the very favorable terms she offered me I build wonders to wow the world. Explored her space. Realizing she got the short end of the stick and I built my cities exactly were I could block her expansion, remember this is a quick game so I didn't have much time in city placement. Once I researched astronomy I sent out my ships to explore the world. This world was broken up into 3 med size continents. The Aztecs received their own to the East of mine and to the west Suleiman, Bismark, and Wu Zetian all shared it fairly peacefully. I think that as mostly Bismark got the short end of the stick and was not aggressive all game. Back on my home front I quickly realize keeping a med size military is not going to work against the Japanese. Around the industrial Era I gunned it for globalization. This may have been a mistake because my cannons and riflemen were about to go against infantry and artillery. Japan invaded. Well they didn't invade me but they attacked a poor CS. Knowing that if I was going to win a diplo victory I would have to come to their aid. My aid failed I was in a war against Japan with a less teched military on the defensive. Next turn my next policy popped and I used Scientific Revolution to turn my outmatched riflemen into even infantry. The next technologies that I chose were telegraph --> electronics for mech infantry to give myself a tech edge. During the war spent most of the gold I had save up for CS on upgrading troops and building new ones. Finally the tide turned Japan was on the defensive. I pushed them back into their homeland and liberated Monaco and sued for favorable terms. Things were fairly quiet while I finished the UN and accumulated the required UN votes. The only issue was after the war I was left with a very strong military and everyone wanted to know why I was building up troops near their borders. All my troops were in my country but they wanted to know why I had such a strong military just sitting there. In the end I barely got my 10 votes and ended the game. And then I realized I screwed up and needed to win a cultural victory. I still have to save maybe ill go back to it. On to Prince...
For my Next game I need some input.
What Achievements do a work towards.
