After I stumbled upon a post about the multi-player animations, somebody mentioned the word "back-port" and "imprvoed engine"

Does that mean that Civ 5 is suppose to run "better"? Meaning it's gonna get optimizeD? atm my Hotseat game really is choppy thanks to constant fill of terrain, (i actually don't get why they did that, Civ 4 didn't have that at all, it was all planned out, why does it not render everything at once?)

Whilst my computer does handle Civ 5 well enough, I still wish I could go ahead and play a fun 15 without turns taking ages and my pc nearly dying xD (i'm overexaggereting)

But are they imprvoing/optimizing the engine to run better? (on worse PC for example?)

This was 2K Greg's post over on the official forums (3 weeks ago), and is really all we know on the matter.

"Good question. A good chunk of the changes to the core code will be backported to the base game. However, I don't currently have any details about what the scope of them will be. I know, for example, that multiplayer animations are one such feature that was developed in the expansion code and is being brought over to the core game code.

I'll try to get some more details about what changes will be coming to the core game."

One of the other previews [can't recall the name] discussed the fact that they are threading the game properly and separating the different elements out.

Hopefully this ought to give some better performance; we'll see.

I just hope that they improve the performance so that I can play larger maps with more civs. Most games I play (even standard size with default number of civs) begins to crap out once I reach medieval or later. Graphical glitches like pillars from the cities abound after loading up previous saves. And, the later I get, the more often the game freezes on me and I have restart my computer and reload the last autosave. The last game I played, I had to finish it by playing in Strategic view as the graphics were all distorted and freezes were to frequent otherwise.

Well last week dude had a interview and told to press game can even work in i386 with 1 mb ram and 0,5 mb graphic card...

Don't forget my 33.6 K giant modem...

That sounds like you might actually wanna think about upgradnig your graphic card :/

Been there, done that! Still having problems!

The game most definitely has some optimization problems. I think it's more taxing on processor/RAM than the video card, but there are some weird video issues as well. I have a GTX 465 and I have to run leaderhead sequences on medium or my computer locks up, but I can run Skyrim and BF3 on ultra with no problems.

Same here, I managed to play Singulaity well enough, Deus Ex (the new one) with little issues, and The Sims 3 runs on good settings. But Civ 5 is way more demanding.

The Sims 3 is another game that I am having a problem with. I have all but given up on that game. Plus, it has gotten expensive! (Sidenote, those that complain about DLC for Civ V should look into the Sims 3).

While I haven't played too much else since upgrading my VC from NVidia 9500 (I believe) to an ATI Radeon HD 5570 and upgrading to Windows 7, most other games work fine from what I have played of them. Shogun 2 and Empire: TW are probably the most intensive out of my other games (besides Civ V and TS3) but I haven't played them much in a while to tell if I have any real problems.

Still, My computer is only a couple years old and while I couldn't afford the best display adapter, it is pretty recent and shows few problems outside of Civ V (if it isn't just the game itself causing the problems.
