I have been at CFC since May of 2002, and I've liked it here and enjoyed it here, so I just thought I'd write a litte thank-you to CFC, Thunderfall, and the mods for the hard work they put in maintaining this site.

EDIT: If you find errors in grammar or punctuation, please forgive me, it's 2 AM... :)

Sitting in a small corner of the universe, no more than a college dorm sized room on the Internet, is a sanctuary where over fifty thousand members come to visit and call home. From dusk till dawn and dawn till dusk, from Sunday to Saturday and January to December CFC is flourishing. Over the past four years members at CFC have hit the reply button over two million times. Some have of course hit that button just a few times more than others. Civfanatics has grown from humble beginnings to become a place where thousands visit on a daily basis. Forums from Civilization to Humor and Jokes to Off-topic are filled to the brink with great posts every single day. As members we love CFC and those great posts, and as members we have a few people to thank.

I found this site long after it was founded and long after it moved to the place it now rests, however, in the time I have spent here I have seen some of the best and most organized forums on the internet. Thunderfall, as administrator, has done an excellent job creating the main site and maintaining the forums. He has worked through server problems and forum and site upgrades, and yet I’ve hardly ever noticed periods of significant down time. The site is aesthetically appealing and the layout is easy to fallow. The vBulletin forums now in place are managed well and create a great atmosphere. Most importantly, TF has been excellent in selecting adequate help for the forums and site. That help from moderators is what makes this site so great.

Aeson, ainwood, AlanH, Chieftess, col, Duke of Marlbrough, eyrei, Lefty Scaevola, Matrix, Padma, Rik Meleet, Smash, Turner_727, XIII, and all of the former moderators do an excellent job in helping out TF. Being a moderator is not an easy job. They are called strict, lenient, one day they are the hero and the next the goat. They feel the wrath of angry members and most of the time they control themselves well. It is not easy to gain control in a forum so dominated by strong opinions and beliefs. Keeping those opinions in boxed in and keeping members sane is not an easy job, but for the most part they have succeeded. I also think it says a lot on this forum that the moderators stick out no more or less than normal posters. They are not dignitaries begging for attention. They act when needed and go about their normal posting habits when not.

My experience on this site has been nothing but filled with fun. I love the fact that civil conversation exists, and I love the fact that we can voice our opinions and debate. I also tend to use this forum as a cooling off point from my real life, and it serves those purposes perfectly. Whenever I have a bad day, or am just in a mood to let something go, I come here and vent my frustrations in type. It says even more to this forum, I think, that people actually reply to some of my posts. This forum is filled with great, caring people and probably holds the best group of people I’ve seen on any one forum. While with fifty thousand members, I do not know very many, finally after a couple of years here, I feel like I’m getting to know a few more and more.

Thank you Thunderfall and the moderators for you tireless work on this great site. Thank you to the members for making it such an enjoyable experience. This site has no equal and I hope that it continues to grow, and I hope that the core of people around now continue to stay around. Civfanatics may take away a few hours of my life every now and then. I could probably be studying for my college exams or reading my lit books, but if I’m going to waste my time, there is no greater place to waste it than here. Thanks again to CFC, and TF, you do a truly magnificent job with this site.

Did you do that because you got another digit?

They will either like it or it's spam.

Now there's a constructive 1,000th post! ;)

:hmm:

What? Your not thanking me?
:p That is a constructive 1000th post. Nice spammin'
But seriously, in this thread, the mods should get all the credit:

I didn't read it all, but I figured the title would be a nice summary.

:hmm: I need to start thinking of something to do for my 5,000th post.

Spam Parade?

So basically you read the title and thought it would be a good thread to annouce that you nearly have 5000 posts?

I really need to start thinking what to do for my 12,028th post...

Actually, no it's just really hard to show sacrasm over the internet. I won't hit 5,000 untill another week or two.

Actually...no, I did not do this because this was my thousandth post. Yes, that was my 1,000th, but that just happened to be the time I wrote this up...

So quit spamming in my thank-you thread, and quit talking about a post number that means nothing. :crazyeye:

And again...I say thanks to the mods and TF...

Thank you, Moss. :)

If all the postcount celebratory posts are like yours, I will have no problem allowing them. :) Unfortunately most of them are like "WooHoo! Look at me -- I have 300 posts!!!! " :crazyeye:

@TF

Y'see, you've now opened a can o' worms. Newbies had to at least work to get to 300 posts for a new avatar. Now they need 30, and 30 days' membership. So when they hit 30 posts (which is nuthin'), they'll go, "Woohoo, 30 posts!!!!!1!1 I BEET AL U N00BZ!1!!";)

I better think I should start to get thinking on my 300th post then shouldn't I. I won't have long to that as this is my 290th post. Woohoo. Well nothing is going to bet what Moss said. :D

:hatsoff:

It's the posters who made CFC great. We just keep order around here, and mostly keep out of sight when unneeded. :)

Well, some keep out of sight more than others... ;)

For example: Lefty never seems to post unless he's warning someone or correcting something. The same goes with TF.

Most of the others mods, post quite often (as seen by their post counts). But that's not a bad thing. Mods were chosen to be mods because they were good posters. There is not reason mods should all of the sudden stop posting once they gain the title. :)

Acutally, I just noticed that if I check the Civ section of the site more often, TF actually does post.
