Aabra02: Hammy Builds a House

Well, tomorrow came and went and is no longer today. The next time I can play will be Sunday - which I believe is within Aabraxan's guidelines.

Yup! I think you have until next Wednesday! :D

Oh, Aabra! I'm terribly sorry to hear this. I hope it doesn't mean you're leaving the board entirely, as you would be greatly missed. :(

Well, I guess that leaves us with 4 expert players...and then there's me. :mischief:

Say it ain't so, man. Slay those RL demons and come back soon. You will be missed.

@team, some progress has been made and I will be able to post tomorrow evening. The war with Lizzie doesn't seem to be slowing her down any as she continues to build Templars. And as she holds the key tech as a monopoly I doubt we will see it soon. Took another town from the Arab and let the alliance with Brennus die a natural death though he remains at war with Abu.

Next step is to settle a peace treaty with the Arab as soon as Brennus has committed his entire army northward. They are on the way there now. Got the trebs back home by teleport from Celtic territory and have them on the Celt border right now.

Yah... what he said. Lord knows I've had to bow off the board a time or three to deal with RL dragons myself.... But FWIW, there are many here who make it worth coming back. :)

Which means the monk has either gotten over Black Friday...or all of the monks at the abbey have gotten their collective faces out of their pie plates after Turkey Day... (Imagine a bunch of warmongering friars with their mouths too stuffed with bird to run any smack....let alone proper warmongering....)

Rah rah ree, kick 'em in the knee!
Rah rah rass, kick 'em...

...in the OTHER knee! :hammer:

Thanks. I'll be able to lurk a little and I'll undoubtedly be back. I just can't hold up my commitments to this SG. Starting my own business just demands every available minute and then some. Good luck with the whackage!

Some serious decisions to be made on the diplomatic front.

Then shortly thereafter

So I opened some more embassies to get a better picture of the state of play

Lizzie wants gold to end the war with her but Abu will pay nothing to end the war with him. The Celts let the alliance against Abu die a natural death but continue at war with him and continue to pour troops across our borders.

ScreenShot011.jpg

That is a pair of Arab settlers protected by a couple of spears between Aden and Yahamah (I captured the town trying to farm out a general). I would let the Celts destroy those settlers then boot them from our territory hoping they will declare war. If they do then we can end the war with Abu and try to ally with him against the Celts.

I'm less sure what to do about the overseas situation.

The Stadium finished at Babylon so a harbor was ordered up. The other two towns are training workers for irrigating and jungle clearing at their respective locations.

Knights Templar remains an elusive goal as Lizzie is the only holder of Chivalry and until the war with China ended had only one trade partner, Portugal, and China's rep is now trashed. It also appears that the other continent remains ignorant of ours.

So it is now up to Whomp to decide who gets the Whompin'!

Nice job getting us a 4th town, Bede. :goodjob: Now we can have an Army if the RNG god smiles upon us. :D

Roster:

Whomp - up
Aabraxan - indefinite lurker status
Beorn-eL-Feared - on deck
scoutsout -
gmaharriet -
Bede - just played

OK I see it. Saturday/Sunday will be discussion and gameday. Interesting times...

I can't believe how long it's taking these stupid AI to settle that western peninsula. We're going to wind up having to take that from the Portugese...

How are we fixed for Trebuchets?

I think this is a good point to stop.

Pre turn: Move a warrior into the capital for upgrade and figure I'll heal a little before trying the Celts. I just realized we still haven't met the French. We're gonna learn some things here. We may want to see what peace cost with the English to see where they're at with KT. Eeesh...80g. Let's wait a bit since we just started a harbor.
IT Celts lose 3 horses hitting the spear/settler team. Kill one and leave the other redlined.
Learn Theo, chivalry and invention. Celts start Sun Tzu.

360 Leader fish with our bow whacking the redlined Arab spear and get 4 new slaves. There's lots of gold out there to trade for.
Take 226g from Brennus for mono. 53g for currency to Smoke. Upgrade both warriors to Maces. Lizzie's still looking for 80g. Next turn I'm going to make peace to see where she's at with KT.

IT Henry comes knocking and we get this message. I turn him down.

He declares.
370 Leader fish knocking off a reg spear and sword. Make peace with the English for 80g and establish an embassy for 90g.
I messed up the picture but it's fourteen to our eleven.

Upgrade a bow to LB in Iron City.

IT lose our galley to the Portugese.
380 I need to wait for the Celts to clear the area around the capital so we don't lose shields towards KT.
English get education.

390 More leader fishing

400 Ports have met the Celts. Hmm...

420 Chinese and Brits have guns and education.

430 This is a good point for a break to discuss whether we're going to research. The nearest Celt desert town has saltpeter. We have it in the mountains near Iron City. I think we can reverse the war against the Celts here since most of their horses are in Arab territory.

Nice diplo manuveurs, Whomp.

Let's leave research off for a while yet or hire a single scientist in one of the outlier towns just to keep my skin in the game. If we are going to spend any money at all on research let's wait for a uni in Babylon.

Finish KT then start on the Celts.

Hmmm...interesting set. I see the Portugese have Ivory... but IIRC, they were beaten to the SoZ by Maya... how tough will it be to get an alliance v. the Portugese? (A meaningful one, that is...)

What about Arabia? Can we get them to ally with us against Brennus?

I want to hear what the monk has to say... I think KT is one of those "nice to have" wonders, but I don't think it'll be a game breaker if we miss it. I wish we had some horses... do we know where Brennus' source is?

What's the cultural situation like in those two Celtic towns between Iron City and Babylon? Do they have expanded borders, or is there a risk of auto-razing?

Edit: Cross-posted with Bede...

I'm looking at the game with CA2. The borders don't appear to be expanded, but Glanum is pop3 and Curovernum is pop4. I guess it would depend on how much whipping Brennus might do.

Agree with doing the KT build and going to war with Brennus.

Will look into options for alliances.

Got it, be back soon with options and comments to discuss.

KT is not a game breaker but it does keep us in the 20K hunt. It is very high cultural value for the shield cost. And spitting out veteran troops every five turns while the city works on something else is never to be sneezed at.

What I really don't like about our situation is the lack of decent territory outside our borders. Celtia looks dry and Arabia not much better.

I'd agree KT is nothing to sneeze at since they'll be valuable all the way through to steam. My guess is one of them will give us a MGL....against a cav. :p

This land is pretty pathetic. The good news is we'll have a quick source of saltpeter with the first Celt city to Babylon's south.

lurker's comment:
(Imagine a bunch of warmongering friars with their mouths too stuffed with bird to run any smack....let alone proper warmongering....)
thinking of the Errol Flynn Robin Hood movie and Friar Tuck with the drumstick. :rotfl:

You'll probably pop the first MGL about 15 turns after you finish KT... :mischief:

Swap request! I'll be able to play Friday afternoon, but not right now.
