First off, I'm the Vikings..

K, I need to know about these guys. They are my only other civ contact as of 1200 AD. I share a continent with them, but have expanded much more quickly due to my emphasis on a navy for settling on other continents and my Great Lighthouse. So in general, I have tons more land then them.

But one thing is scaring the hell out of me and that is their Mounted Warrior. And they've got a bunch of 'em too.

And what I'm really worried about is this..I have monopolized every single iron resource known to me or Hiawatha, and I feel he is about to flip and invade for iron. Although he is polite to me now I don't think it will last.

And to make things worse, I have also monoplolized the only 2 luxuries on our island, leaving him with none.

But, I'm currently researching Invention which will be huge trouble for Hiawatha (Beserks). But, preparing to attack him and claim the rest of the island will take a while, with the high cost of Beserks and the build-up time of ships.

So what do you guys recommend me looking out for in order to stay alive until then?

Put a lot of defensive units and bombardment units (catapults) into your frontier cities. Sometimes, it's best to let them fail with their attack first (i.e., defensive war). Consider it "Elite Training" for your troops. Then, when their forces are depleted, move on in. You could also try to pillage any resources that the Iro. has, and capture their habors (if any) incase they have trade with other civs.

If you've nearly got invention, you must be able to build pikemen right? Build a lot of them, they can upgrade all the way to mechanized infantry. They should do the trick.
Oh yeah, you could always try to lure him to one highly defended city, or to let him wander around with his forces: if you move all your defenders out of one city, the AI will race to capture it.

Of course, by then, you move your defenders back in:rolleyes:
You can do this over and over again. Just make sure that he can't get in before you go back.

I would spend your time building your infastructure and wait till the Industrial age for a large scale war against him. (Read My Guide!!!)

In addition to building up defensive and a few offensive units, make sure that you can afford a war, whether you start it or not. There is nothing worse then being invaded by countless units and not having any money to build or rush new units into production.
