Abstract art

Your opinion of abstract art...

  • It sucks. The more realistic a work of art, the better. (generally, at least)

  • It's great. Even non-objective (no recognizable subject matter) art is real art.

  • It was once in style, perhaps even good. Now the fad is (or should be) over.

No, I am not an idiot. I know that the areas of the brain involved in driving are (probably) not the same as those involved in artistic ability; I was only joking. :)

But can you please explain how a person high on LSD making abstract art justifies the value of abstract art?

To me, all abstract art looks like crap that I could draw. And I can't draw. At least, I can't draw anything living.

My policy is if I could draw it, it's not art.

technique is important but not the point of art. the point of art is the idea.

I have never used LSD and don't know much about its impact on the human brain. However is it clear, at least to me, that in picture 6, 7 and 8 are the lines, shapes and the composition a lot more beautiful and exciting than in picture 1. Don't you agree with me?

Abstract art can be interesting visually, but it doesnt provoke an emotional response in me.

Yes, but that's because picture 1 looks like crap. A picture attempting to be realistic but failing miserably will always be worse than an abstract picture.

Edit: On second thought, all those drawings look like crap; it's hard to say if any are better than others. Maybe if some color were added they'd look good, though.

Actually, I think it is provoking an emotional response in you, but it's more subtle and hard to describe.
