I don't because it unbalances the game. Workers become too slow compared to everything else, and movement rates are too slow in AP.

OK so it unbalances it in some respects, a lot of people don't do it and it also makes the dates become totally unrealistic (i.e. recahing the IA in 600 BC)

But it makes the start of the game I lot more action packed as civilisations are able to build settlers quicker and it becomes a real land-grab, and it gives hyper corrupt cities a moderately decent chance at bulding a spearman before they're invaded.

I go 50/50 here. Sometimes I play with it sometimes not.

Not to be an00b, but waht does accelerated production do?

I'd have said the same thing if someone hadn't beat me to it.

Basically, AP havles the cost on just about everything, except when you trade with the AI. Buildings and units take half as long to build, and techs are supposed to be half-price. Although techs have a lower limit of one tech researched per four turns.

DaveMcw (I think) has a Balanced AP mod out there, but I"ve never played it. I do play AP, because I don't like to wait for the stuff to build. My games already take in excess of 75 hours, usually over 100, so I can't see making them longer.

I play on accelerated production too, and actually I find playing on accelerated production significantly more challenging than playing on normal because you have to think twice as fast, act twice as fast and micromanage twice as fast. Not to mention a few imbalances here and there.

Thus, I have vowed to myself not to play on it anymore, but it really is hard, seeing that everything suddenly takes twice as long to build. On AP I've never had a granary needing 60 freaking turns to build, even if it is a new town, or a tech taking more than 40 turns to research.

I never play accelerated production because I like playing really long games. I always play on huge maps and my games are usually over 135 hours. I think I have only actually finished like 5 games.

I assure that my old PC couldn't possible handle massive length of AP Emperor - Sid level games as it might crash sooner or later. About your question, I rarely used to play some AP games way back to vanilla Civ 3.

If im in a war and need units quick or if i want to expand and need a library or temple quick ill use it.
