Accidental declaration of war

Not able to access the game just now so I can’t check, but I just don’t think it is made clear at all that you will be required to declare war when your ecomonic or scientific or religious ally is attacked. Seemed to me that was only applicable for the military alliance (clearly I misunderstood that.) Guess I am stuck in the old Mutual Defense Pact way of thinking. That was Civ V right? Been a while. Or maybe I am imagining things, heh.

Between this silliness and the never ending, one sided open borders bug, I think I will be avoiding alliances for the foreseeable future.

Away from game myself but in a military alliance aren't you obligated to join offensive wars rather than just defensive? Really can't remember, just always seems like military partners wind up in more "brothers in arms" situations than research partners.

Only defensive wars. They will ask you to join them in war but there is no oboligation too. I do it anyways because it's fun.

Also defensive pacts don't override alliances. Thus if you have 2 allies that fight each other, it doesn't concern you. So pick your allies right.
