So... I want to wear down Acheron by sending 25 skels against him and ... he don't get a scratch. I know it is 19 strength vs 3, but this seems suspicious. I understand he is immune to my fireballs (I'm playing Amurite if you did not guess) as he is magic immune, but why he managed to not get a single wound? I know it works well with the horsemen which are even stronger than him, so why not here?

How do you wear down Acheron then? Catapults?

Hordes of units that don't have 2 str against him xD.

Try getting beastmasters, swordsmen w/ metal, etc...

I beat him one time using a handful of catapults and several legions of Bronze weapon Axemen, and I think there was a 100+xp hero, too. :l

If you plan to kill him, though, don't ever let the AI start attacking him. They'll give him more experience than the entire Barbarian State can dream of.

He has a natural first strike, doesn't he? Even 1 of those tends to be practically insurmountable for a unit as weak as a skeleton because they get taken out in 2 hits and almost always get hit (around 95% of the time, for a skeleton vs. Acheron)

A skeleton would only have slightly higher than 5% odds to hurt Acheron, and would only deal 6% of his HP on a success.

If Acheron managed to get drill2, he could go through literally hundreds of skeletons without a scratch.

It's the first strikes that do it, mainly. I believe most of the skeletons would die before they could lay a scratch on him. Even if they survive the first strikes, I believe their chances of winning combat rounds are very low.

If you want to take on Acheron, you need Beastmasters or Heroes. Sadly, you don't really have to, since he's just a big paperweight and will never even bother you if you let him be. Held units can't even use spells. I think he needs to be more aggressive.

If held units can't use spells, what keeps flinging meteors at me when I enter Acheron's territory?

Although, I am playing .23 (vanilla), so it probably is quite different.

Way different.

As Fireblade told you, it's not 19 vs 3, it's 19 vs 2 :).

.23 ? I wasn't aware you could even get that anywhere.

That's practically a whole different game @_@

Blur makes you immune to first strikes and Courage would let you attack it, since Acheron has magic immune, the death damage from skeletons is pitiful and I dont think skeletons can get promotions like blur.

Skeletons are now Melee units, so they should be able to get Blur. Courage only works on living units, but I don't think Blur, Shadowwalk, Enchanted Blade, or Dance of the Blades have that prereq.

well, I have found that enough catapults combined with enough units of at least 4 strength generally seems to do the trick. I think I used 10 catapults and I only needed maybe five 6 strength demagogues in order to seal the deal.

Basically, the more catapults you bring, the less strong your killer unit has to be. However, I would recommend killing Acheron with a beastmaster after the cats wear him down, so that you can capture him.

I recommend capturing Acheron with an Alazkan the Assassin that has the Subdue Beast promotion, after wearing him down with an Illusionary Alazkan.

Problem being that the OP is playing as Amurites

Well, Dominate Alazkan first then...or just take the Black Mirror and give it to a Beastmaster...or cheat.

Maybe, but the question was asking how to wear him down, not just to beat him. Illusions are great for that, because they automatically withdraw when the target is reduced to 10% strength. Beastmasters don't always have good enough odds against dragons to risk loosing them, but if you can use an illusion to wear him down first then you pretty much guaranteed to win.
