Achievements bug?

As I was playing yesterday I lost my web connection during the session. After I was done playing, I could see that I had unlocked 26% of the achievements. However I could not see which of them, since it said I needed a internet connection to do that? Today when I logged in, I found out that I only had unlocked 8% of the achievements?

1. Do you need to have an internet connection to log achievements?
2. Why was information lost between sessions?

Yes, achievements only get logged when you're playing on-line, as far as I know.

True that achievements only get logged when playing on-line.

However, I also had the experence that achievements that were listed on Steam at one point in time, were no longer listed at a later point in time ... which sounds like what the OP is talking about. I had 21 unlocked in two games, but later it said only 17 (all from the first game)

I actually sent this online to Steam support, they said they are aware of it and are looking into it.

My impatient fix was to replay game 2 to from a near end save ... which unlocked those achievments again. (Game size, leader, map type, and one other).

I noticed that the achievements I was seeing varied depending on how I accessed Steam. The main civ game page at first only listed one achievement! But I saw more when I checked from within the game, and the full list was available when I looked at my gamer profile on Steam.

Also, at some point I read that off-line achievements are uploaded the next time you log the game into Steam online.
