aCK-2 Seeing Red

Calling all free Great Peoples!

Preturn

I make a couple of minor switches.
Osaka was making a rifle...I changed it to a grenadier to counter the partisan rifles we will meet up against.

I switch Vienne from a uni to Wall Street.

Whacking enter...

(1) 1826 AD

Montezuma in all of his genius is teching Divine Right...perhaps he should be teching Divine Intervention. Lame I know...but its early!

I delete numerous outdated garrisons in our western cities that are in no danger.
We save 17 gpt. Woohoo!

We will now learn assembly line in 6 turns while pulling in 158 gpt!

Tokyo is now pumping 47 hammers before modifiers! A far cry from the 5 or so we had when the copper got knocked out a while back!

AP vote comes up and we have only one choice...so I try to give Suleiman a gift.
More unhappies for Monty is fine by me!

8ackapvote.jpg

I am grouping the workers into groups of 3 to lay one turn rails.
It just makes my head hurt a little less when trying to rail such a large empire.

(3) 1830 AD

Well I was going to tell Sulei to research SciMeth when he finished MilSci...but apparently he knew what I wanted and chose it on his own.

Currently Brennus is teching Astro for us in 7 and Sulei will have SciMeth in 5.
We will snag those and begin to tech Communism for the free GSpy and Physics for the free GSci once we have Assembly Line in place.

I assume it will be Physics or Bio and either one of those is fine.

No more build queues as it will (and probably has) bore many to tears.

61.32% land area with 64% needed for victory.

(6) 1836 AD

Bibracte begins building the SoL.

I believe Ron Burgandy once told me...

"Bibracte is Latin for wonder whore."
Then he played me some jazz flute.

Montys silly new city that trapped our forces popped its borders and our troops can now return home!!!

8ackfreetroops.jpg

(7) 1838 AD

Assembly Line is in and a three turn Fascism is in place for the free GG!
I want our other stack to have a super medic too!

8ackassembly.jpg

Kyoto is the first to start building a factory.

They were told not to do it...but they do it anyways...Karakorum is the first city to start building a forbidden palace.

(8) 1840 AD

Land area at 61.58%

(9) 1841 AD

Apparently dead end techs like DR and Liberalism are Montys plan for winning this game! He is teching Lib now...someone needs to tell Monty that the free tech was taken long long ago.

(10) 1842 AD

Rails still being laid.

Tokyo starts the Oxford Uni and is due in only 5 turns!

(11) 1843 AD

Fascism arrives and we get a GG for our troubles.
He is sent to the southern group to medic for them.

8ackfascism.jpg

I make this trade with Brennus to obsolete as much as possible in one fell swoop.

8ackbrennustrade.jpg

Unfortunately, due to learning Astro and SciMeth Bibracte loses two turns on the next GP...BOO!

We also get 4 plunks of oil in our lands.

I set research to Physics and use our GSci to bulb most of it for us.
Physics and the free GSci in 2 turns now.

(12) 1844 AD

Kyoto is the first city to begin construction of a shale plant!

(13) 1845 AD

We get Physics and the free GSci that goes with it.
He quickly bulbs half of Bio.

8ackphysics.jpg

I choose Communism as our next tech.
That way we get a great spy but we can also adopt State Property right before our GA ends too.

Our GG attaches to a pike and promotes to Medic III and Woody II.
10 more exp to super ultra status.
I promote him to an infantry to speed that process up.
I am not worried about losing him to Montys rifles.

(14) 1846 AD

I micro Tokyo to finish Oxford one turn sooner!
Yay for useless late game micro!

(15) 1847 AD

Communism is learned. Bio in two thanks to our bulb earlier.

8ackcommu.jpg

Vienne completes Wall Street!

Wrapup

I have sent the spy to infiltrate Monty.
He is currently south of Istanbul.
That should give us city visibility for most of Montys cities.

There are two SoDs for you to use and abuse...Monty that is.
One is resting next to Texcoco ready to strike.
The other is waiting to the south near London.

I shuffled troops so that both stacks have city raider infantries.
I just promoted some so you can declare next turn if you like.

This is the final turn of our final golden age.
We can and probably should switch to State Property before you hit enter.
I didn't do it so we had the option not to if we so choose.

Our land area is 62.89%
That is dangerously close to the limits of domination.
We may want to consider gifting a city to one of our vassals to ensure we don't accidentally win.

Good luck and happy hunting!

Ah, so what's shaping up to be the final scene in the aCK-2 drama is upon us. I went back and read the first few pages of this game, to see where we'd come from, and I got quite the sense of nostalgia (nevermind that it's only been about two months but on the other hand the game has lost two-thirds of its players since then) seeing little Japan and all the silly mistakes us newbies were making.

Actually, looking back, this game seems like a three act play. The first act sets the scene, as our empire lays its foundations and the world shapes up. In act two, like a good drama, terrible things happen. I suppose I'm to blame for this analogy, but moving on . . . . Lastly, the final act sees the protagonists digging themselves out of their hole and achieving final victory! And, unless I completely lose my mind and gift all our cities and units to Monty . . . . Actually, wouldn't it be kind of funny to gift half our army to Monty so that we could have an even match? It almost seems like a Japanese thing to do . . . . Heh, but no.

I do think I've improved in these short months of courting Tokugawa. Then again, I suppose after letting Japan's single most important financial center, Tokyo, get captured, it would be hard to go further down hill. Anyway, enough reminiscing. I've got a game to finish, so that's what I'll do. In an attempt to speed things up for me and you, I'm going to attempt to abbreviate my usual full-bodied posts . . . something I have clearly failed at already. BUT I think I'll at least leave out build orders since they're hardly important at this point, and maybe try to limit pictures to a reasonable amount. I don't think we need to see technology splash screens or "city captured" screens anymore. I'll try to get some decent shots of fighting, though.

Lastly, here's to Liquidated and S.ilver for starting this Questionable Play (TM) game, and to goblinmarine and Diamondeye, who left us before their time . . . .

So, without further ado, I present:

The Eternal Reign of Tokugawa, Forever Next Door

There's a lot of pictures, so brace yourselves.

The Turn of Inheritance

OK, so itw was noted that this is our last chance for a free switch to State Property, and that we may accidentally get a Domination win. Don't want that last one, for sure.

See we have oil, though much of it (like many late-game resources) are in locations that have already been improved, so that's always an inconvenience. But we can't build wells yet, anyway, so no biggie.

I was trying to think of what we could give away to avoid domination. I briefly considered London, 'cuz it'd be easy to give to Brennus or Suleiman, but it's a capital site and we've put a bit of work into restoring it, so . . . . So our Vassals can have Khan's backyard, eh? Karakorum is the only one we really care about, I think, and our culture will dominate whatever they get . . . .

Let's see what happens: Beshbalik to Brennus, and New Sarai to Suleiman.
When I dial up Brennus, he tells us to stop trading with his enemy, Montezuma. We're trading with Monty? Noooooo. What are you smoking, Brennus? Hrm, that's more problematic. For Vassals, I can only Liberate cities. Vienne, Bibracte, and London are up. The first two, certainly no, but we may be giving up London after all.

. . . Well, three of the towns in Khan's former territory are due to expand in a few turns. I'm guessing that water doesn't count against our limit, but we'll be gaining at least 4 tiles, and with things so close, that might tip the balance. I suppose I could always wait and reload, but I wonder if that's cheating?

I'll wait two turns. Beshbalik expands in 2 (Turfan in 3) and the former should gain 1 land tile. So I can see where that bumps us up from 62.89% I'm loathe to give up London, but . . . . Well, what must be done must be done for the greater glory of Japan's final victory. I'm gonna go ahead and switch to State Property, though. We're paying 96 in distance maintenance, and that extra 10% production will more than make up for the loss of 1 specialist per town, I think.

Wow, at 70% science, income JUMPS from 44 gpt to 216 gpt. We lose some beakers though, and Biology is set back a turn. Turning up the slider puts us at a deficit . . . eh, 1 extra turn on a research won't hurt us now. I can use this money to . . . do whatever.

Wow, didn't think I'd spend so much time on this part of the game. Anyway, here we go.

-End Turn-

Turn 439, 1849 AD

It feels funny not doing my usual build order list . . . and many things finished this turn.

Lot's of rails to lay, that's always fun.

Moment of truth on the Domination, now.

Turn 440, 1850 AD

I like this, all these factories finishing up, shale plants, but many towns need more health.

Hmm, London's borders expanded . . . I didn't expect that, I'm not sure how many tiles it grabbed . . . .
Odd, our land area is now at 62.76%, a bit less than last time. Well, I'll wait and see what happens next. Monty's demise must wait until I can determine London's fate. Anyway, more time for some last-minute infrastructure to be put in place. Mmm, more hammers.

Oh, yeah, and we got a Great Prophet out of Bibracte, just before it went into revolt (again). Right, that should be the loss of tiles. Hmm. We must have lost 2-3 land tiles. Let's say 2. So that means that one is about 0.06%. I think we'll be safe regarding domination. Well, in that case, I won't dawdle any longer. Monty must be stopped before he can, um, annoy us again.

Oh, I'm going to settle that GP in Vienne. I'm not expecting another Golden Age any time soon . . . . And I just realized that we never took advantage of Vienne's double Holy City status by spreading its religions around. What a shame. Infiltrate Monty.

Monty thinks he's being clever:
aCK-2SeeMontycrop.jpg

The trumpets of war sound once again. For the last time.
aCK-2MontyFinalWarcrop.jpg

A couple of Cannons are all it takes to wipe out Texcoco's cultural defense. The first attacking cannon dies, of course . . . . I think I'll run for Artillery next.
aCK-2Cannonsdiecrop.jpg

aCK-2SamuraiwinsatTexacocrop.jpg

Unfortunately, Sulei doesn't have enough clout here for me to give it to him, so the city burn. He gets 5 Partisan Riflement, ugh. I wipe a few out, though, and capture two workers. We also get a great general. Will embed in Satsuma.

Move southern stack into Monty land.

-End Turn-

Turn 441, 1851 AD

Biology has been researched and I start on Artillery. May do Combustion < Elecricity < Industrialism next, see if we can get some tanks by the time we're at Monty's front door. Monty has moved a stack into Ottoman territory. Hopefully Sulei can hold his own. Though it looks like Hastings may fall.

I sabatoge a couple of improvements in Aztec lands just for kicks and giggles. Otherwise, our soldiers advance.

-End Turn-

Turn 442, 1852 AD

Monty tries to get his spy-on against us, too. We catch one before he can do any damage, but we catch another after he sabatoges production in Tabriz. Big deal.

Undefended Ainu gets captured by Monty. Hastings hasn't been attacked yet, for some reason.

Malinalco is next on our hit-list, Monty's new town. It falls with no trouble, spawning partisans.

Hrmf, that gave London's culture a push. No choice but to gift it to Brennus. It hurts our income and our research rate, but I guess neither are that important at this point. Should buy us some time, though.
aCK-2KindnesstoBrennuscrop.jpg

-End Turn-

Turn 443, 1853 AD

Hastings fell, but I think Sulei can retake it next turn no problem. Otherwise, one of our teams can double back. I have our lone airship in the area take a smack at Monty's cavalry, anyway.
aCK-2Ottomanslosecrop.jpg

-End Turn-

Turn 444, 1854 AD

Kyoto is putting out 1-turn Infantry. I love it. Sulei got his act together and retook his city.

One of Monty's Cavalry attacked and got away inbetween turns, so many of our Cannons in our northern stack got flanked. Will probably have to heal after Tlacopan is burned. Still going through cannons like . . . things that die a lot. I think when artillery comes in, I'll pull back so I can upgrade our siege.

aCK-2KnightsofJapancrop.jpg

Well, at least when this place burns, the Partisans form in the capital. Should make the last battle more interesting, 'cept that Monty will surely send them out to die sooner.
aCK-2Devestation1crop.jpg

The psycho is losing power fast, but maybe when I take out Harappan, he'll lose some income, considering all the cottages he has there.
aCK-2NextTargetcrop.jpg

Demographics screen shows that his Espionage spending is greater than ours. Maybe he's diverting his research funds there?
Spoiler :
aCK-2Flowchartbreak.jpg

-End Turn-

Turn 445, 1855 AD

Miners near Kagoshima discover a vein of silver. Nice, though we lose a hammer there. Probably not a big deal at this point, though.

Alemanni is done next turn, but it's on a hill, so it may be slightly more troublesome than the others.
aCK-2SoonTargetcrop.jpg

Ironclad gets to see some action.
aCK-2Ironcladsinksshipcrop.jpg

-End Turn-

Turn 446, 1856 AD

I add some spies to our building queus so I can harass Monty in other ways. I plan to wreck as many improvements around his capital as I can.

Alemanni may be a tougher nut to crack than I thought, as it features a Guerilla II/City Garrison I Rifleman. We'll lose a few cannons, but we'll have artillery next turn, sooo . . . . hee hee hee. Lose the first cannon, but the rest soften the place up nicely. Promote a Rifleman to Guerilla II so he can clean up the last defender but make it back to the stack, too. Monty gets a couple of Partisans in his capital.
aCK-2NoMoreCityontheHillcrop.jpg

We'll probably start seeing some barbarians again soon, huh?

-End Turn-

Turn 447, 1857 AD

Artillery research is complete. Let's add some dignity to this brawl. Plotting a course through to Industrialism.

Southern stack turns back for upgrades. I'm not terribly worried about losing momentum.
aCK-2Devestation2crop.jpg

-End Turn-

Turn 448, 1858 AD

Some spies are familiarizing themselves with Monty's improvements.

Our cannons rip through the defenders at Harappan. Our Infantry do the same, only better. I finally learn how to switch view modes so that the picture of the stack doesn't block the screen . . . . There's now a nice big hole where the western part of Monty's empire used to be. He kind of hates us now, well, irredemably so. A whopping -25 "You razed our cities" penalty all on its own.
aCK-2ReadytoDiecrop.jpg

aCK-2Calvaryformationcrop.jpg

aCK-2Devastation3crop.jpg

In other news, Brennus is a moron and cut off Coventry's irrigation again and there's not really a great path to bring it back. Bleh.

-End Turn-

Turn 449, 1859 AD

Our first Artillery units are constructed. Use our spies. One takes out a gold mine, but the other is caught before she can take out the corn farm. More spies enroute, however.
aCK-2FirstArtillerycrop.jpg

Some time around here, one of our frigates sinks an Aztec caravel.
aCK-2Frigatesinksshipcrop.jpg

-End Turn-

Turn 450, 1860 AD

A brand-new mine at Edirne pops iron. Woot!

Celts got an interesting event: Courts had to rule on a close election. Not sure what that means, though.

Upgrading the cannon is more expensive than I thought. Oh well. It'll be nice. Now, once the troops are all healed, I think I can finish the offensive without any more interruptions. I mean, we've delayed this so long, a few more turns won't hurt.

-End Turn-

Turn 451, 1861 AD

We've learned combustion. Electricity is next. Vienne revolts. *Sigh* Even with all those troops crammed in there. We should have oil hooked up in a few turns, though.

-End Turn-

Turn 452, 1862 AD

We're on the move again.

-End Turn-

Turn 453, 1863 AD

We get a funny resolution calling for a stop to the war against us. Heh heh, cute.

Oil is hooked up, but that means more unhealthiness in our towns. Gotta build a few Public Transportations now. That's fine, we have plenty of troops.

Turn 454, 1864 AD

Statue of Liberty is completed. To commemorate our Liberation of Monty from his cities.
aCK-2StatueofLibertycrop.jpg

I have like, half a dozen spies surrounding Tenochtitlan. Next turn, a few will be ready.

-End Turn-

Turn 455, 1865 AD

Only thing to report is that all spies successfully completed missions and returned to Kyoto. I don't think this'll hurt Monty much, but so what?
aCK-2SpiesatMontycrop.jpg

-End Turn-

Turn 456, 1866 AD

Two cities will be in range of attack next turn. Brennus and Suleiman are on the offensive at Tenochtitlan, but I doubt they'll take the city.
aCK-2MoreSuleicrop.jpg

Sorry to give you all such a boring report for a WAR set, but it'll get exciting again soon.

-End Turn-

Turn 457, 1867 AD

Electricity is in, Industrialism in 8. It will surely be done before the game's over, but not early enough to matter.

Uh-oh, New Sarai's borders will pop in 10 turns, and that might be game over for us. It ended up with more culture than I thought.

-End Turn-

To be Concluded . . . .

The Finale

Turn 458, 1868 AD

Monty attempts something that could vaguely be called a counter-attack under a loose definition of the term in between turns:
aCK-2Montycounter-attackcrop.jpg

OK, here goes. Our first ARTILLERY still manages to die at 69% odds. I guess even upper-level siege always disappoints me because defenders get so much stronger relatively.
Anyway, Calixtlahuaca lights the night sky as it burns and smolders.
aCK-2Artillerygocrop.jpg

aCK-2Infantrygocrop.jpg

aCK-2Liketowatchitburncrop.jpg

Newcastle is on the hitlist now. Defenses are quickly lowered, and South Stack's shiny new Artillery take the field. 87% odds lets the first one survive! The city is barely defended, so it falls fast.
aCK-2Artillerywincrop.jpg

aCK-2Infantrywincrop.jpg

aCK-2Cavalrywincrop.jpg

-End Turn-

Turn 459, 1869 AD

We've gained some more land area somehow, and are just brushing the Domination limit. I'm not sure that we can avoid Domination at this point. We can't really get any other cities off of our hands now, either.

I suppose, if we hit Domination, we can just play through the "end" and finish off Monty for closure.

Turn 460, 1870 AD

Ack! We got Domination.
aCK-2Dominationvictorycrop.jpg

It's weird, though, 'cuz I never got notices that towns were expanding . . . . Actually, I just realized that it was our Vassals. If only there was some way to say "Hey, stop being our Vassal!" Oh well. At least the Domination movie kind of fits Japan; the planet at the end looks a lot like the red sun of Japan's flag.
aCK-2Endscene2.jpg

aCK-2TokugawaVictory.jpg

Well, there goes my plans. I was hoping to leave Monty's capital for sturick so that he could end the game (he played the first set). It would have been nice symmetry.

I was also hoping that we could use these special units in the final assault:
aCK-2BigmenTeamcrop.jpg

Anyway, I uploaded two saves: The first is a few turns before we got the Domination win, so if you want this in your score box, load it up and hit enter a couple of times. The second is saved after the "Just One More Turn!" in case sturick would like us to wipe out Monty just for the sake of doing so. I could do the grunt work for a few more turns and leave you the capital. Otherwise, we'll just call it a wrap and move on to something else until S.ilver and Liquidated make their return.

Well done Whosit!

:woohoo:

Your attempt at making your report shorter doesn't count if you break it up into two posts
I assume you were at the picture limit.

If we had been wise enough to have remembered earlier that our vassals land counts as ours then we would have done some more razing and some less city gifting to get the true victory we wanted.

I think we deserve to finish this one off the way that we intended.
The victory seems hollow to me.
Don't get me wrong I am happy, but my thirst for vengance has yet to be slaked!

I think I will try to play out the final turns on Monday.
I will save Tenochitlan for last and our elite army of four will finish the deed led by the two generals Sturick and Whosit!

Once again, the days of Tokyo are long in your past (where they should stay)!

Also thanks go out to S.ilver and Liquidated for all of their teachings!

Oh, right, my attempt to make the report "shorter." I think I typed the introduction up in advance before I realized what I was getting myself into. Or, perhaps, it's just in my blood.

Anyway, I approve of your drive to finish things off properly. Just to help you get up to speed when you load it up on Monday: My plan was to have the southernmost stack sweep around south to north-east, cleaning up the 3 cities on Monty's south and eastern shores. The big stack in the middle was going to go north, hitting the city 2 squares away and probably continuing north, and I had a mini stack trying to sneak past Tenochtitlan to hit/harass the northern most city, eventually linking up with the north stack.

Alternatively, North Stack could take a detour east before swinging back north if that would be faster, though I'm sure you can manage without a sweat. I do think that we have enough troops to literally surround Tenochtitlan like you suggested, though. Heck, by the time you get to the capital, Kyoto and Satsuma can probably spit out a few tanks if you want 'em.

Regarding our vassals, I don't know if it would have made a lot of difference if we razed more. As you'll see, Sulei and Brennus have already started to settle the cleared lands, so I think that's what did it to us.

Lastly, I second your thanks to S.ilver and Liquidated for hosting the game and sharing their wisdom and particular brand of humor with us.

Nice game. One day I will be as good at exploiting Artificial Idiot.

:band::beer::band::beer::banana::banana:

:thanx::thanx::thanx:

Best SG game yet, and there have been some good ones.

Grats to everyone involved and thank you very much for the entertainment =)

Well done and well won, guys :goodjob:
I have to admit this one didn't look that good after the loss of Tokyo - HI stubbornness FTW ! :D

So, what's up next ?

Great finish guys. Getting the fat man to vassilize was key to making this one a rollover. Very much an upstairs downstairs sort of drama for sure what with the food starved land and the cast of psycho leaders. Uh liq call the coal in kyoto or what? lolz.

Cheers!

The Finale: Part 2

I couldn't resist...I need to finish off the infidels!

First things first, Whosit had a really nice idea naming a few Bigmen in his last set.
I will take it one step further by naming our generals. Egotistical I know, but with two generals and two players it seemed fitting.
Sargon and Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar (seriously thats his name!) just weren't cutting it for me anyways.

Formerly Sargon:

9ackwhosit.jpg

Formerly JMA:

9acksturick.jpg

Plus it makes it easier to refer to the stacks.
Northern stack is SturickStack.
Southern stack is WhositStack.

Sturickstack cleans up a longbow and a rifle while closing on the city of Teo.
Whositstack is ready to take Ainu next turn.

Spy destruction time!

Our spies destroy three of five improvements around Teno.

This leads me to my ultimate plan of humiliation.
I want to shrink Teno down to size one by crushing all of its improvements in the BFC.
Our army will occupy each square of Tenos BFC making it impossible to work anything except the city tile.
Then our elite crew of Bigmen will take the city and crush it to rubble!
Sounds like sadistic fun to me!

I will just set all of our worker crews to automated improvements...no sense in wasting any more time in that regard.

That brings the inherited turn to an end.

Tenochitlans current size...16

(1) 1871 AD

I start to build a few wonders for fun.
Kyoto West Point
Satsuma Pentagon
Lakhama Broadway

In between turns our frigate perishes to the combined might of 3 caravels...BOO!

9ackcaravel.jpg

Ainu falls but no partisans show up...I wonder if that is because we have already won.

9ackainupic.jpg

Teo falls as well...

9ackteopic.jpg

I was wrong about the partisan event.
5 rifles take to the surrounding lands...four of them are wiped up by our forces.
I take out the fourth rifle with a grenadier and cover him with the other one.
Monty's final rifle can scurry away to be disposed of later!

I just thought of something that might be tricky.
How do I avoid Brennus taking Tenochitlan before we do.
I will just have to keep an eye out for him I suppose.

I tweak culture up to 10% to avoid any unhappiness.
War Weariness is only going to get worse.

Tenochitlans current size...16

(2) 1872 AD

Wow...a surprisingly quick turn.

I notice Brennus has a smallish stack headed towards Tenochitlan.

2 cannons and 4 infantries...that might be enough to take him out.
I will take a peace treaty with Monty before I let Teno fall to anyone but us!!!

Tenochitlans current size...15

(3) 1873 AD

We trade Econ to Sulei who pays for the final two turns of research.

Chinook builds a destroyer...good job Whosit!
I was afraid Monty's caravel navy was going to survive. Not anymore!

More razing took place this turn and Whositstack is ready to take another city...err strike that...Whositstack is ready to burn another city next turn.

Tenochitlans current size...14

(4) 1874 AD

We get a nice little gold rush event and cash in nicely.

9ackcashin.jpg

Brennus and his stack are now outside of Tenochitlan.
He doesn't have enough troops to take it this turn but I will definitely keep a close eye on the situation.

I bombard Aztca down to 14% and I look to see that there are only two rifle defenders and our Bigmen have 95% odds so I don't even bother collateralling.

The destruction of Aztca makes me think of Beavis saying "FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!"

Lame choice for the AP vote...oh well.

Tanks are now rolling off the lines in Kyoto!

With the sacrifice of a few cannons we take out another Monty city.
Only three left!!!

ackfourthcity.jpg

We now have enough spy points to see inside Tenochitlan.

Spoilered for size...

Spoiler :
As you can also see our pillaging is doing a fine job of starving the city!

acktenochitlan.jpg

5 settled GGs
3 settled Engineers
and a Great Prophet for kicks.

A catapult foolishly tries to defeat our quartet of Bigmen...silly Monty.

Our destroyer is making quick work of the numerous wooden ships that for some strange reason aren't hiding in cities.

Whositstack begins its assualt on one of Monty's three remaining cities.

ackthirdcity.jpg

We handily win of course...but I notice something odd after we raze the city.
When did Monty have time to sneak this city past us???

ackhuh.jpg

I have some cavs with movements this turn and they should be able to reach it and hopefully destroy it!

There is only one defender but our first cav dies with about 75% victory/retreat odds.
The second one does a fine job cleaning up the mess.

acknewcity.jpg

Partisan units from both of these cities have flocked to Teno and should hold off Brennus' advances assuming he doesn't bring any reinforcements.

I can't figure out why Tenochitlan isn't shrinking anymore!

Well maybe because of all the stupid great people in Tenochitlan we can't reduce the size of the city down to 1.
So if I can't shrink the city, why not piss off the remaining citizens!!!!

ackpoison.jpg

I begin the process of surrounding the city with all of our troops...it might not shrink the city but it will make for a cool pic!

Brennus apparently is scared by all the partisan fighters appearing in the city...he has turned around and started to run away!
What a loser!

Tenochitlans current size...still 10

In between turns Monty throws 4 rifles at a defending infantry and knight killing them...why would you anger me like that!!!

In retaliation, we finish off his next to last city!

acknexttolast.jpg

Partisans take to the countryside this time...I kill off all but two...and they have been weakened by some nearby artilleries.

Tenochitlans current size...9
I have no reason why it didn't shrink the last two turns now.

(11) 1881 AD

We complete three World Wonders on the same turn...how cool!
We built the Pentagon, Broadway and the Kremlin.

Bibracte pulls what is to be its final GP...another scientist.
I just have him bulb part of fission.

It will likely take about 4 or 5 turns to properly disperse the troops around Tenochitlan.
Hopefully, Brennus doesn't get any funny ideas...his stack has returned outside of Teno.

Brennus is really gonna piss me off here...he is bringing reinforcements.
Just enough to take the city I think.
Lets hope Monty can hold out...I don't want to wait this out.

Okay so there isn't going to be a way to block Teno from working the two lake tiles.
So in order to get the city to size one I will need to poison its water at the proper time.

Brennus has an 11 unit army outside of Tenochitlan.
I am now regretting trading him Assembly Line.
If this were rifles up against rifles I might be okay with it.
We should know alot more next turn.

It would appear that Monty has weathered the storm.

Monty Stack:

Brennus Stack:

ackbrennusstack.jpg

For now...as long as he survives long enough for our Bigmen to make the final deathblow I don't care what happens.

Time to poison some water!!!

Mission was a success!

We should accomplish our goals in three turns.

This is the end of Monty.

As you can see here I have thoroughly surrounded his capital!

acksurrounded.jpg

Convieniently, there are six defenders in the city.
We have 6 special units that would like to each take out a defender.

Lets soften up the defenses first.
Arties do their thing and we now have six weakened defenders!

Goblinmarine gets the first crack!

Diamondeye crushes the opposition!

Liquidated brings the pain!

S.ilver sends the defender flying!

Now the generals are ready to seal the deal! (Pulp Fiction Style!)

Whosit strikes down with great vengeance!

ackwhosit.jpg

Sturick strikes down with furious anger!

acksturick.jpg

Tenochitlan and the Aztec empire have finally fallen!

acktenodead.jpg

I would like to point out that all 6 of our final battles were won flawlessly!
How bout them apples!

Whew! It was a long hard road.

This was wonderful fun for me and I had a blast!
I hope that my fellow teammates and those lurkers out there feel the same!

Lurker comment: Just a guess, but maybe Monty switched civics in the middle of that, and the starvation logic didn't get kicked in.

*Laughs maniacally for a few minutes*

Wow, that picture of Tenochtitlan surrounded is just priceless. I was also pleased to see the Whosit-Sized Post (TM) (is that legit?). Bang-up job, and that final showdown went perfectly. I can just picture Monty's face as our troops storm his Palace. Good times.

Oh, and in regards to the Destroyer vs. Galley: Y'know, it might actually be fair in a way. The galley might be so small that the modern guns on a destroyer would have trouble targeting it. Or maybe I'm underestimating the accuracy of modern navel cannons. Oh well, we have a navy of one!

So, thanks much for the show and putting the final nails in this coffin.

@Veritass: Well guessed. You are absolutely correct.
I went to the logs to check it out and indeed he was in anarchy.
He switched civics to Pacifism and converted to Hinduism. Thusly explaining the two turns of non-starvation.
Must have been a last ditch effort on his part not to get slaughtered.
I can just picture him saying "You wouldn't massacre a fellow Hindu who doesn't believe in violence would you?"

As far as surrounding the city goes. I initially planned on just surrounding the BFC, but when I realized that I could occupy every land based culture square he owned, I decided it would look that much cooler.
I loved that pic...it is definitely my fav!

@Veritass & sturiuck: But, wait, isn't Monty Spiritual? He wouldn't have had any anarchy, right? I know it's really a moot point since sturick got him down to size 1 anyway. Unless I'm mistaken about Monty's traits.

SERIOUSLY, I CAME at the huuuge feck off army surrounding Tenotichlan

One of the best succession games, NAY, best Civ games ever documented

 Glad the audience liked it as well :p
