Acularius' GEM for Caveman2Cosmos

I'll be doing the changes in the evening. Right now I'm doing some work and jotting down ideas.
Go right ahead though, if you have more questions, just ask.
In my opinion, I recommend the 'no preset' map, with only yourself and 'Mastery' on.
Then you enter World Builder and place the resources where you would like. Past that, you save the file and begin the second stage of Map editing.
Notepad+ is my personal favourite.
Work with previous files for ease. Copy and pasta.
Essentially copy everything down to/or including 'Beginmap/Endmap'. Copy and paste from the previous maps.

To create starting locations, make sure mark a location with a unit, I tend to use the aardvark because its unique when I Ctrl+F in notepad. Mark it down, then use a template of another civ.
Use WBcleaner (I believe it is called) to scrub away everything you don't need.)
Copy Pasta and make sure to mark down the proper x and y from what you wrote.

Congrats, you have created a scenario or a no preset map.
Also, I believe in the 'map' portion of the file you can randomize resources and locations if you so wish it.

Well if u plan on doing the changes this evening I won't worry about it. I don't think phillip will mind, (I hope not). Maybe wait to hear from him before moving around the asian starting locations or deleting korea. Wait to see what he says, as a curtesy I think. The resources and stuff I don't think he'll mind.

Play it by ear then, wait until Philip comes by and then we will decide how to go from there.
@Lexotan: Just going to see what Phillip thinks and we will move on with the next version.
Heck he might already have it done and I'll update the OP with links to the latest version.

Ok, i will wait.

:) Thanks for reply.

Unfortunately I'm away from map-making stuff for a while. I was considering making a tutorial video for how to edit scenarios, so anyone could do it (it's really not that difficult, just slightly time consuming). I'll keep folks posted.

Acularius, do you will fix the map?

I'm working on the map now,
Instead of buffing the Arabs, I'm strongly considering removing them.
We can always add them back in for later versions.

Obsidian can be found in locations which have experienced rhyolitic eruptions. It can be found in Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Canada, Chile, Greece, El Salvador, Guatemala, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Scotland and the United States. Obsidian flows which may be hiked on are found within the calderas of Newberry Volcano and Medicine Lake Volcano in the Cascade Range of western North America, and at Inyo Craters east of the Sierra Nevada in California. Yellowstone National Park has a mountainside containing obsidian located between Mammoth Hot Springs and the Norris Geyser Basin, and deposits can be found in many other western U.S. states including Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, Washington,[13] Oregon[14] and Idaho. Obsidian can also be found in the eastern U.S. states of Virginia, as well as Pennsylvania.

Only four major deposit areas in the central Mediterranean: Lipari, Pantelleria, Palmarola and Monte Arci.[15]

Ancient sources in the Aegean were Melos and Giali.[16]

Acigöl town and the Göllü Dağ volcano were the most important sources in central Anatolia, one of the more important source areas in prehistoric Near East.

Edit: Making sure the maps load, then I will update the OP.

Opening post updated with the latest version.
GO MY BUG HUNTERS... err... I mean, have fun~!

Changelog 02-02-2013
  • Fixed the bad flags afflicting Germany and England. [Aesthetic more than anything but it bothered me. XD]
  • Japan: Remove the dormant volcano on the second half of Shikoku, and replace it with silk, while changing the silk south of the Kyoto starting location into beef. Also tacked in some Coal on Kyushu and a mountain in Hokkaido, furthermore placed some Obsidian south of what would be Fujiyama (Dormant Volcano)
  • Carthage: Generally re-arrangement of terrain tiles, to better allow Carthage to form its cultural wonder. Generally buff to the area essentially with an addition of copper south of the Carthage starting spot. This should make them more competitive around the Mediterranean.
  • Scotland was 'Pimped' out, I didn't add anything in terms of food resources, but Scotland now boasts a source of Stone and Obsidian (Together combined they form FLINT!) as well as some Prime Timber.
  • I sprinkled some Obsidian around the Old World, in regards to this I also changed around the Aegean and the west coast of Anatolia a bit to allow Greece to hook up with the island source of Obsidian. Rhodes, was brought closer to Anatolia... to represent that they are islands, I placed rivers to 'cordon' them off... to represent Rhodes strategic importance, it is a hill tile.
  • Removed both Korea (cramped and on a peninsula) and Arabia (Constant under performer, and suited for the chopping block).

Really though, if you find bugs keep us updated... we'll try to work them out.
I FINALLY removed that pesky kelp on the hill in Manchuria. XD [It forever eluded me until THIS DAY! *insert maniacal laughter*]

Edit: I also pimped out Ireland with some stone.

Thanks Dude!

I will start a fresh game right now!

Good job Acularius. Ill put it in the svn.
Done.

So now in the SVN private map folder there is:
Giant Earth Map - No preset - 02/02/2013
Giant Earth Map - Pre-Columbian Civs Pre 1500 - 02/02/2013
psGiant Earth Map - 5 civs 12513 - 26/01/2013

I definitely wasn't working on it tomorrow. That's chili, fresh bread and the Super Bowl. :P
[We do the same thing for the Grey Cup as well]

Anyways, make sure to keep everyone posted on how the GEM pans out and any possible problems with the map.

Shouldn't it be beer, bourbon & the super bowl? You americans really should watch aussie rules football, way better than grid iron imo.

I'm Canadian, but its more of a tradition than anything else. XD
A delicious tradition, since we tend to have the chili fairly spicy and the bread fresh from the oven.

EDIT:
Back on topic, for the next version, would people mind if I put rivers through 2 tile islands?
This would allow the AI and the player to access the resource stuck on many of them, such as Crete, Cyprus and Sardinia. [Not limited to these islands mind you.]
Furthermore I would like to use them to separate landmasses from islands that are parked next door like I did to Rhodes.
The biggest example would be tacking on some rivers to Japan to separate the islands.
