The Mongols! Version 1.00

Last updated February 2nd 2009

Welcome to the year of Genghis Khan 1206AD. Here you will be able to play as the Mongolian Hordes, Seljuk Turks, Ayyubids, Sung Dynasty, Holy Roman Empire, Byzantines, Kievan Rus, and many other civilizations that dominated the world at this period of time. You will be able to fight as Genghis Khan and live up to his legacy or try to conquer your neighboring foes. There are many other challenges that you will face, some of which are, keeping your empire and defending against or play as the Mongolian Hordes, build a strong and long lasting Islamic empire while conquering Europe, conquer the Americas while defending against European invaders, and conquering the known world while maintaining a standing government.

Whats happening in the World:
The year is 1206AD. Just recently in 1200AD Genghis Khan united the small Mongolian tribes and turned them into a near invincible Empire that he intends to use to conquer the world. In Europe the Seljuk Empire is holding it's ground against it's enemys, while they recieve help from the European Crusaders. In Spain their is a massive problem with a not enough room to expand that has led them to war and to try and find new unsettled lands. In the America's new civilizations are emerging like the Aztecs and Incans while the previous Empires are being destroyed.

Scenario Description:
The Mongols is the biggest scenario ever created for Civilization IV with a whopping 39 civilizations to play as! Even though the scenario is titled as "The Mongols" I have allowed you to play as any civilization therefore giving you more challenge. I have also made two maps that you can play on, one is titled "The Mongols in the East" and it is a map of East Asia this map only has 11 civilizations but each of them offer their own uniqueness to players. The other map is titled "The Mongolian Horde" this is a world map with all 38 Empires placed on it!

Future plans:
If I have another release I hope to add an new tech tree, UU's and UB's for all civilizations, and possibly a Europe map, I will definitely add a ton of events I already have them planned out just need to get them into a script!

Scenario info:
For Beyond the Sword 3.17. Both of the maps are set on a slightly tweaked Marathon Gamespeed, and have require complete kills, new random seed on reload, and aggressive AI on. The Mongols in the East is a limited time game which ends after 250 turns of play, and has these victory conditions enabled: Time, Conquest, Domination, and Diplomatic. The Mongolian Horde goes on until 2050 and has all victory conditions enabled.

New Units
At the moment I have 1 new unit!
Mongolian Camp;
Stength 10
Movement 1
Hammers Not buildable

The Mongol Camp gives a random chance of receiving a unit. Every terrain gives a different percent chance. Here is a list of what Terrains/features give and at what chance:
-Grassland: 50% Keshik, 5% Spearman, 10% Archer, 2% Camp
-Plains: 25% Keshik, 15% Spearman, 10% Archer, 10% Camp
-Hills: 5% Keshik, 25% Spearman, 50% Archer, 2% Camp
-Tundra/Snow/Desert: 3% Keshik, 3% Spearman, 3% Archer, 2% Camp
-Forest: 5% Keshik, 50% Spearman, 25% Archer, 2% Camp
-Jungle: 5% Keshik, 15% Spearman, 15% Archer, 2% Camp
-Floodplains: 25% Keshik, 10% Spearman, 5% Archer, 2% Camp
-For everyturn that the camp doesn't move the chance that that camp produces a unit is increased by 1% until it has reached a maximum of 15% or 25% for creation of camps. This is reduced to zero everytime the unit moves or produces a unit.

Info for Version 1.00!

Renamed Cities:
Renamed Carthage to Tunis, renamed Syracuse to Palermo.

Added Cities:
I added the city Cairo as the new Ayyubid capital, added Corcaigh in Ireland, and added Exeter in England.

New Civilizations:
I added the Scottish as a civilization. gave them control of the city Nairn which used to be English. They are a vassal state of England.

Renamed Civilizations:
I renamed Nan Chao to Kingdom of Dali, changed their leader name as well.

New LeaderHeads:
I added a new LeaderHead William I. Used Robert the Bruce leaderhead made by mourndraken. ;) I also added a leader I made Sapa Inca. So now's their isn't two civs using Huayna Capac leader animation!

Terrain Changes:
Changed the mountain plot to a Hill as requested so you can enter onto the plot!

Text Changes:
Added Civiliopedia entries for civilizations and leaders.

This looks great, I'll post again with feedback in a few days...

Edit* Hmm, I've got no UI. This happened with the CivRev mod too and my Civ4 and BtS are not from Steam... bah!

What do you mean? Is the scenario not downloading right or is their a problem with it in game? Not sure what you're saying.

It's a problem with my game, something with this scenario makes the UI disappear. It also happened when I tried to use the RevolutionDCM Mod(called it CivRev, was thinking of WolfRev). However I can play your 1000AD + Medieval ages scenario so I've become content.

Checked out both scenarios: looking good overall.

Some comments:

In Mongols in the East the Mongols seem a bit overpowered (I knocked out Jin just by using the units from the setup; Jin appears to have no army, just the city garrisons I overran on the suggested difficulty level with minimal losses);

in The Mongols! the Mongols seem underpowered (playing about 100 turns as the English they basically got nowhere, while I sailed around the world, trading maps and founding a city in Africa and Australia; played on Warlord though);

on the world map I noticed the following politico-geographical oddities

- Eire and Scotland aren't present (I don't think they were English yet in 1200 AD!)
- Augsburg (is where Frankfurt should be)
- Carthage (should be Tunis, IMO)
- Syracuse (= Palermo)
- Cairo (major city missing!)

the following LHs don't seem to have an opening Diplo text

- Jayavaraman (= Jayavarman?)
- Narapatisithu
- Zhangzong
- Ningzong
- Zhao Bing
- Tsuchimikado (nice find, BTW!)

minor stuff

- Topitzin (= Topiltzin?)
- Maharaja of Malay (=> Raden Wijaya of Majapahit, contemporary of Kublai Khan)

suggestion

- some additional barb cities might be considered (for instance in Africa).

Overall impression: looking good; excellent work on the added LHs and civs. With some fine tuning this would be a perfect mod. (As is I'd rate it B+/4 stars.)

PS: Am I right in assuming you won't be updating 1000 AD?

Ya I found this as well I have a list of events which I will add to help it go more historical I'll post the list of events I would like to incorporate next time I get a chance to organize them!

en.wikipedia.com/wiki/england said:
England became a unified state in the year 927 and takes its name from the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes who settled there during the 5th and 6th centuries. It has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world[9] being the place of origin of the English language, the Church of England, and English law, which forms the basis of the common law legal systems of countries around the world. In addition, England was the birth place of the Industrial Revolution and the first country in the world to industrialise.[10] It is home to the Royal Society, which laid the foundations of modern experimental science.[11] England is the world's oldest parliamentary system[12] and consequently constitutional, governmental and legal innovations that had their origin in England have been widely adopted by other nations.

I'll have to check these out for accuracy.

Ya I'm still working on the text and stuff also planning on making UU's and UB's for each civ. Already started making civilization civilopedia entries!

Nope I will continue work on Earth 1000AD after I make a few more scenario releases!

Looks nice, unfortunatly with that many civs it plays to slowly on my comp. One minor thing though, Byzantium shouldnt control Constantinople, it was conquered by the 4th Crusade and turned into a Latin state. That would be best represented by whoever is the 'crusading' nation (in reality, I think it was actualy the Germans) control Constantinople.
They should be at war with both the Crusaders and Hungary (or closest thing to the slavs).
Lastly, the Abbasid Caliphate had no real power. It had all but collapsed 300 years ago and was being ruled by the Buyids. It was little more than the Vatican Republic is today. Immense theoretical (technicly the pope is the ruler of all christians) power, but little power in reality.

OK, cool!

As concerns Scotland:

In 1603, James VI King of Scots inherited the throne of the Kingdom of England, and became King James I of England, and left Edinburgh for London.[36] With the exception of a short period under the Protectorate, Scotland remained a separate state, but there was considerable conflict between the crown and the Covenanters over the form of church government. After the Glorious Revolution, the abolition of episcopacy and the overthrow of the Roman Catholic James VII by William and Mary, Scotland briefly threatened to select a different Protestant monarch from England.[37] On 22 July 1706 the Treaty of Union was agreed between representatives of the Scots Parliament and the Parliament of England and the following year twin Acts of Union were passed by both parliaments to create the united Kingdom of Great Britain with effect from 1 May 1707.[15]

(Says Wiki)

I was wrong about Ireland though:

From 1169, Ireland was entered by Cambro-Norman warlords, led by Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke (Strongbow),[49] on an invitation from the then King of Leinster. In 1171, King Henry II of England came to Ireland, using the 1155 Bull Laudabiliter issued to him by then Pope Adrian IV, to claim sovereignty over the island, and forced the Cambro-Norman warlords and some of the Gaelic Irish kings to accept him as their overlord. From the 13th century, English law began to be introduced. By the late 13th century the Norman-Irish had established the feudal system throughout most of lowland Ireland. Their settlement was characterised by the establishment of baronies, manors, towns and large land-owning monastic communities, and the county system. The towns of Dublin, Cork, Wexford, Waterford, Limerick, Galway, New Ross, Kilkenny, Carlingford, Drogheda, Sligo, Athenry, Arklow, Buttevant, Carlow, Carrick-on-Suir, Cashel, Clonmel, Dundalk, Enniscorthy, Kildare, Kinsale, Mullingar, Naas, Navan, Nenagh, Thurles, Wicklow, Trim and Youghal were all under Norman-Irish control.

Lastly, the Abbasid Caliphate had no real power. It had all but collapsed 300 years ago and was being ruled by the Buyids. It was little more than the Vatican Republic is today. Immense theoretical (technicly the pope is the ruler of all christians) power, but little power in reality.
Ya Constantinople would be under Venetian rule. But why i didn't add a new civ Venice or just give Constantinople to the HRE is because the map is too small! I know that sounds crazy but in reality Europe is tiny. So it would be hard to create the fighting in such a small place thats why I left it as Byzantine. Not to mention the Constantinople was recaptured by the Nicaean general Alexios Strategopoulos in 1261 AD, so unless I had a zoomed in Europe map and a 1 year per turn game setup it would be hard to create that situation.

The Abbasid Caliphate didn't disband until 1258 AD when the Mongols had taken over. But even after this Abbasid had main leaders still in high positions in other Middle Eastern Empires

Ya I could add the Scottish, they were a power in Europe at the time, but then again I might need a bigger Map but I'll see how it would fit maybe get them in the next version for you! ;)

Here's my basic list of Events for the Mongols so far:

In 1209 the Uyghurs submit to the Mongols as a vassal state. (Vassal event)

Mongols attack Jin dynasty in 1211-1234AD. (war Event)

Mongol Khitan war 1215-1217AD. (war Event)

Mongol Khwarezmid war 1217-1220AD. (war Event)

Mongols attack the Kievan Rus', Cuman Khanates and Volga Bulgarians in 1221-1240AD. (war Event)

Mongol Armenian war 1212-1222AD. (war Event)

Mongol invasions of Korea 1231-1259AD. (war Event)

Mongol East Europe wars 1241-1242AD. (war Event)

In 1244 the Tibetan Empire becomes a vassal state of the Mongols. (Vassal event)

In 1250AD the Mamluks come into being. (Revolution Event)

Mongol Nanchao War ?-1253AD. (war Event)

Mongol Abbasid War 1258. (war Event)

Mongols Mamluk war 1258-1281. (war Event)

After the death of the Khan Mongke the battle for the title Khan rages between Kublai Khan and Ariq Boke 1260-1264AD. (Revolution Event)

Mongol Japan war 1274-1281. (war Event)

Mongol Polish war 1287AD. (war Event)

Mongol Vietnamese Empires war 1257-1288AD. (war Event)

Now those are events just for the Mongolian Empire I really haven't done much work with the other Empires yet. But if every Civilization has a List of events this long that could make the game real interesting and keep it more accurate! If you have any ideas for new Events let me know! :king:

nice scenario in a purely war mongering mode , one thing however , how are you supposed to conquor Xijin, it's a mountain city and units can't get in it

Okay, jsut something I noticed. Lastly, would it be possible to make a 'no new world' version of this scenario or you Rise of Islam? The new world doesnt add much and uses alot of comp power taking into account all of the extra tiles and 4+ additional civs.

also another bug , not everyone you wipe out leaves the game , example , i took out lhasa, but i was still able to have dialogue with the tibeteans

Scenario info:
Both of the maps are set on a slightly tweaked Marathon Gamespeed, and have require complete kills, new random seed on reload, and aggressive AI on. The Mongols in the East is a limited time game which ends after 250 turns of play, and has these victory conditions enabled: Time, Conquest, Domination, and Diplomatic. The Mongolian Horde goes on until 2050 and has all victory conditions enabled.

It's not a bug, they must still have some units rummaging about, probably in Siberia :crazyeye:
