ADDING UNITs TO C3C: Thorough Guide for the Newbie

I keep getting an error saying that i dont have an INI file for my Numidian Cavalry unit. I have the same exact name for the folder as the INI does. Any suggestions?

I ran into a imiler probelm ealry today in fact- it was due to the file in question (I took the death sounds from infantry, to put on the industrial legionary after a re-instal on my new PC) and it turns out the file had a slight misname- that is to say, thier was a space at the end of the name- see if that is a matter with any of the file name- just delete anyspaces until it matches exactley the name of the file. also trnaser all needed files into the units little folder thing. hopefully, that might help.

Thank you.

THats not the case, any other suggestions?

Thanks. Jus call me Rick(i hate sadaam and it is only a joke name, im jus a democrat from Pennsylvania)

One thing you could try is high lighting the *.ini file and (via rename) copy the name of the file, the droping back to the folder level pasting the name there (again via rename) it's a bit of work but one way to be sure the names are Ident'

This depends. You can copy the sounds from another unit and paste them into your new unit's folder, and then put the file names in the .INI file.

Alternatively, you can specify a path for the game to follow to find which sounds to use. Let's say I added Imperial Legionary to my game, and I want the death to use the generic Legionary death sound. In the Imperial Legionary .INI file I would go to the section under [Sound Effects] and find DEATH=. For this I would put:

DEATH=..\Legionary\LegionaryDeath.wav

The ..\ tells the game to search my Civ 3 folders for the folder Legionary, and then find the sound LegionaryDeath.wav and play it when my Imperial Legionary dies.

Hope this helps :)

Hello I just tried to add a Uruk Hai Berserker, and i followed all the directions, except the anim name, because it seems I do not have that section in the text file. Prolly cause of the version of the game I have.

but when I loaded the scenerio, it said something like,

"cannot find file .....\text\pediaicons.txt: ICON_BLDG_INTERNET"
i went into the file and added the thing by copying another building, and now it is showing the same problem with civil defense building. Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it?

EDIT: Ok, now that I added 3 more fake buildings, and now it is asking for
anim name prto_worker

could really use some help here, cause I don't know how to fake an anim name entry cause I dont have any on the pediaicons.txt

thank you

OK I figured it out

for some reason, the pediaicons.txt is different in "Civilization III\text" folder than "Civilization III\Civ3PTW\text" and u get it from there

Alright, I'm not sure if this question belongs in here or not, but here it goes: I have tried adding several units to Civ3 Conquests, and almost everything has gone fine. The animations all work, and so do the Civilopedia entries. The only problem has to do with the units_32 file. I have done the part where I copy and paste the new unit's pic into my units_32 file, and put it into an open space. I then merge the layers so it is permenant. When I go into the editor I can see the new pic fine, but when I am playing the game, as soon as I build my first city or try to enter an already built city, the game crashes without even an error message  ! The image editing program I use is Photoimpression for Windows. Don't know if that has anything to do with it :( . Please :help:

I have a problem I am adding a unit, the Teutonic Knight and when I build it on the game it says file missing: Art/Units/Teutonic Knight/../Knight/Death.wav, where did a ghad a mistake or why does it says that.

The program may have saved the file in its own proprietory format. It needs to be saved as a pcx file type. Also make sure it's in 256 colors.

Make sure their is a "Death.wav" file in your Teutonic Knight folder. That should fix the problem.

I finally got so sick of the problem that I just downloaded the GIMP. :mischief:
Thank you for the help anyway. :)
